Mr. William R. McGee

81, of 870 Parkview Rd. Galesburg, IL, died at 1:45 PM Wednesday October 31, 2001 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on June 20, 1920 in Galesburg to Theodore and Hilma (Isaacson) McGee. He married Mary K. Brown in Galesburg on September 6, 1947. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, James McGee of Utopia, TX, two daughters, Linda McClay of Gilson, IL and Patti Patton of Washington, IL, 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was a pressman at the Register-Mail newspaper for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. He volunteered at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and OSF St. Mary Medical Center. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers during World War II.
His funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday November 3, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Doris L. Klingman

86, of 620 N. Cedar St. Galesburg, IL, died at 2:10 PM Wednesday October 31, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on June 29, 1915 in Mulvane KS. She married Creston S. Klingman in Wichita KS on April 18, 1939. He survives.
Also surviving are a son, Barry Klingman of Waco, TX, a sister, Viola Teuber of Winfield, KS and three grandchildren.
She taught in Kansas’ schools prior to moving to Galesburg in 1952. She was a 1933 graduate of Mulvane (KS) High School and a 1970 graduate of Knox College, Galesburg. She also attended Friends College in Wichita KS.
She was a member of AN Chapter PEO Galesburg, the Galesburg Study Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday November 21, 2001 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or History Department at Knox College.

Mrs. Caroline R. Stripe

83, of 1145 N. 2nd St. Oquawka, IL, died at 10:23 AM Tuesday October 30, 2001 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on May 6, 1918 in Galesburg to Fredrick W. and Clara Anna Rebecca (Schultz) Greene. She married Alfred E. White in Galesburg on May 1, 1937. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1972. She then married Percy F. Stripe in Galesburg in February 1974. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1995.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Sheryl Mac Bean of Omaha, NE, a daughter, Vivian Palmer of Galesburg, IL, two step-sons, Jack Stripe of Monmouth, IL and Tom Stripe of CA, a son, William White of Blue Mound, IL, two sisters, Gladys Anderson of Abingdon, IL and Pearl Blevins of Bakersfield, CA, a brother, Harold Greene of Galesburg, IL, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Four sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg and Oquawka IL. Also a member of the Oquawka Eagles Club, she was an avid bowler.
Her funeral will be 11:00 AM Friday November 2, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Mike VanAcker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday November 1, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.

Mrs. Mary Lucille Davison

91, of 117 E. Washington Henderson, IL, died at 6:15 PM Monday October 29, 2001 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on October 11, 1910 in Henderson IL to Reuben and Nora (Folger) Fields. She married Irving E. Davison in Peoria IL on October 9, 1932. He survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Buban of Alpha, IL; two sons, Gary Davison of Wataga, IL and Rodney Davison of San Jose, CA; three sisters, Jean Morrissey of Decatur, IL, Mabel Blixt and June Puckett, both of Galesburg, IL; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two brothers, six sisters and two grandchildren, Susan Davison and Kevin Buban, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, the Flemish American Club of Kewanee IL and a former member of the Moose and Eagle Lodges.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday November 1, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery, Henderson. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of America.

Mr. Lawrence W. Horn

, Sr., 85, of 285 E. Losey St. Galesburg, IL, died at 4:05 AM Tuesday October 23, 2001 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.

He was born on November 2, 1915 in St. Augustine IL to Ira W. and Pearl (Miller) Horn. He married Martha E. Galbreath in Hannibal MO in July 1942.

He is survived by two sons, Gaylord Horn of Tampa, FL and Lawrence Horn, Jr. of Galesburg, IL, a daughter, Nancy (and John) Symmonds of Galesburg, IL, two brothers, Kenneth Horn of Galesburg, IL and Wayne Horn of Wataga, IL, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a salesman for the Lago Marcino Grupe, Howes Bakery then Rogers Brothers retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Church of God Church, the Moose Lodge and Ralph M. Nobel American Legion Post #285. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday October 26, 2001 at First Church of God with Pastor Jerry Webb officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to First Church of God or to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.

Mrs. Joan M. Sheets

, 62, of 211 Illinois Avenue Galesburg, IL, died at 12:56 AM Monday October 22, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.

She was born on May 16, 1939 in Bolton England to Thomas and Mona (Ridings) Rathbone. She married Walter E. Sheets in San Diego CA on February 24, 1962. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughter, Vicki Brown of FL, Mona Lidwell of Farmington, IL, and Linda Sheets of Las Vegas, NV, a son, Robert Dodd of Galesburg, IL, two sisters, Mona Moorman of CA and Patty Woodfin of WA, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was a supervisor at the Canton Manufacturing Co. and a LPN at Lifecare Center in Las Vegas NV. She was a graduate of Blackhawk College, Kewanee IL.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday October 24, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Earleen Embry

Mrs. Earleen Embry, 78, of 430 Maple Victoria, IL, died at 4:25 AM, Sunday at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.

She was born on June 15, 1923 in Baizetown KY to Ciscro and Minerva (Burden) Daughtery. She married Homer C. Embry in Butler County KY on January 22, 1938. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2001.

She is survived by two daughters, Janis (and Francis) Haptonstall of Victoria, IL and Joyce (and Stan) Hendrix of Galesburg, IL, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A grandchild and three sisters preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday October 23, 2001 at Victoria (IL) Cemetery with Rev. Charles Oberton officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday October 22, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit at the Marigold Healthcare Center.

Mr. Arthur D. Adams

Mr. Arthur D. Adams, 78, of 910 W. Willcox Ave. Peoria, IL, died at 9:10 AM Saturday October 20, 2001 at his home.
He was born on November 16, 1922 in Pekin IL to William and Annetta (Wagonmaker) Adams. He married L. Arlene Temple in Galesburg on June 9, 1948. She preceded him in death on September 7. 2000.
He is survived by two daughters, Sue Alfaro and Judy Crouch, both of Peoria, IL, three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.
He was at the former Admiral Corporation for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and its choir. He was the church’s Sunday School Superintendent. He also was a member of O.A.K.S. and the Monday Night Church Bowling League.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday October 24, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Mrs. Helen M. Cannon

, 82, of 2650 Bridlecreek Lane Galesburg, IL, died at 8:05 AM Friday October 19, 2001 at her home.

She was born on February 8, 1919 in Rockville IN to Clyde and Veva (Strickler) Mitchell. She married Dr. Robert L. Cannon in Indianapolis IN on October 3, 1941. He survives.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Knox County Medical Society Auxiliary and Soangetaha Country Club. She was a graduate of the Perryville (IN) High School and attended Indiana University.

Also surviving are three sons, Richard Cannon of Sarasota, FL, Robert Cannon of Gainesville, GA and William Cannon of Yorba Linda, CA; a brother, William Mitchell of Ft. Myers, FL; two sisters, Eileen Gibson of Peoria, IL and Laura Nunn of Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren and two 2 great grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded her in death.

Private family services were held Saturday October 20, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Ms. Wilma M. Shepard

, 72, of 543 W. First St. Galesburg, IL, died at 1:25 PM Wednesday October 17, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.

She was born on October 1, 1929 in Monmouth IL to Earl F. and Charlotte (Collier) Yoder. She lived in Monmouth most of her life moving to Galesburg in 1984. She worked at Maytag Corporation for 15 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by a companion with whom she lived, Jack Clay of Galesburg, IL, three sisters, Marlene Adwell of Monmouth, IL, Connie Clements of Dearing, GA and Mary Jane Kelley of MO and a brother, Robert Yoder of Columbus, OH. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Saturday October 20, 2001 at the East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Lugene Finley officiating. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
