Mr. Raymond D. Carley

84, of 2664 Springer Road Galesburg, IL, died at 4:20 AM Thursday February 28, 2002 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on October 5, 1917 in Galva IL to Arthur B. and Rena (Edwards) Carley. He married Margaret E. Ranney in Galesburg on January 6, 1940. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ann (and Lee) Nurrie of Kalamazoo, MI and Kathleen (and Robert) Olsen of Maitland, FL, a brother, James ‘Jim’ (and Vivian) Carley of Galesburg, IL, three grandsons, three step-grandsons and a great grandson. A son, Gary Carley, a daughter, Phyllis Arnold, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
He worked in the grocery business for many years being with the form Lyle C. Brown Supply Co. He and his wife also managed a resort in Michigan for 14 years, retiring in 1981. He was a 1934 graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a member of the Western Michigan Tourist Association, Michigan Ski Counsel, Cosmopolitan Club and active in the OAKS. He served in the Army during World War II.
His funeral will be 10:00 AM Monday March 4, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday March 3, 2002 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to OAKS or First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Randy P. Lytle

45, of 2060 Knox Hwy 1 Galesburg, IL, died at 9:44 AM Wednesday February 27, 2002 at his home.
He was born on January 29, 1957 in Galesburg to Richard and Betty (Bewley) Lytle.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Denny (and Sharon) Lytle of Galesburg, IL and Tom (and Linda) Lytle of Knoxville, IL, three nieces, three nephews and a great nephew.
He worked at the Continental Clothing Company for 15 years. He also worked at Hy-Vee, National Seal Co., Maytag, Gates and Dick Blick. He was a 1975 graduate of Galesburg High School and attended Carl Sandburg College. He was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, Downtown Galesburg Merchants Association, Prairie Players Civic Theatre and Choral Dynamics.
His funeral will be 1:30 PM Monday March 4, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery, Henderson. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday March 3, 2002 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family or Henderson United Methodist Church.

Mr. Lloyd D. Cooper

92, of 550 E. Carl Sandburg Drive Galesburg, IL, died at 8:02 AM Tuesday February 26, 2002 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on May 12, 1909 in Fairfax CA to Lloyd W. and Ida E. (Carlson) Cooper. He married Astrid Elm in Galesburg on July 21, 1935. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Ronald (and Kathleen) Cooper of Lombard, IL and three grandchildren. A son, Lennie Cooper, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.
He was a co-owner of the Galesburg Construction Company for 30 years. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and the Galesburg Lions Club. He served in the Navy Sea-Bees during World War II.
His funeral will be 10:00 AM Friday March 1, 2002 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Johnson and Rev. Kirk Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday February 28, 2002at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary Jeanette Myler

76, of 67 N. Pearl St. Galesburg IL died 10:10 AM Monday February 25, 2002 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria IL.
She was born August 29, 1925 in to Charles and Amy (Collinson) Binge. She was raised by her mother and her step father E.P. Thrasher. They all preceded her in death. She married Fred S. Myler on October 27, 1945 in Galesburg IL. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a special friend Barb Wright in Galesburg IL who cared for her. Also surviving are four daughters-Sharon Briggs, Mrs. Charlie (Cheryl) Clark, Willa Howard, and Mrs. Dave (Betty) Logdson all of Galesburg IL. Seven grandchildren, six step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and ten step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and three sisters.
She was a homemaker. She also worked at Scandia Restaurant and the Golden Cream both in Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942. She was of the Christian faith. She lived in the Galesburg and Altona area.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday February 28, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Sheldon officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family.

Miss Helen E. Lindrothe

89, of 311 E. Simmons Galesburg, IL, died at 2:30 PM Monday February 25, 2002 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on May 20, 1912 in Galesburg to Carl J. and Emma (Johnson) Lindrothe.
She is survived by a sister, Eunice (and Raymond) Brown of Holly Hills, FL, four nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews and four great great nieces and nephews. A sister, Hildur Lindrothe, preceded her in death.
She taught in Community Unit School District 205 for 34 years, retiring in 1970. She was the librarian at Lombard Junior High School. She was a 1928 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1932 graduate of Knox College. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Knox-Lombard 50-Year Club.
Her funeral will be 11:30 AM Saturday March 2, 2002 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or Community Hospices of America. Mrs. Lucreta A. Thompson

89, of 250 N. Pearl St. Galesburg, IL, died at 6:35 PM Monday February 25, 2002 at HCR Manor Care, Peoria, IL.
She was born on June 18, 1912 in Chandlerville IL to James and Mabel Williams. She married Harry J. Thompson in Galesburg on September 5, 1969. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1999.
Survivors include Deceased Mother, Mabel William (deceased), Deceased Father, James Williams (deceased), Son, Donald (and Marquerite) Devore of Indianapolis, IN, Son, James (and Florence) Devore of Peoria, IL, a grandchild and two great grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Galesburg Chapter #235, American Legion Auxiliary #285, Knox County Grandmothers Club, National Rifle Association, VFW Auxiliary #2257 Patriotic Instructor and Chaplain and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Her funeral will be 1:00 PM Friday March 1, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Bruce Naylor and Rev. Jimmy Cook officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. An Order of Eastern Star service will be presented at 1:00 PM by Galesburg Chapter #235. Mrs. Vera C. Kalin

81, of 80 N. Ivan Ave. Galesburg, IL, died at 6:30 PM Sunday February 24, 2002 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on November 5, 1920 in Monmouth IL to Norris and Olive (Kinney) Francis. She married R. Harvey Kalin in Galesburg on November 30, 1952. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (and Kevin) Clevenger of Monmouth, IL, a son, Robert "Kip" (and Cynthia) Kalin of Monmouth, IL, a brother, Milo Francis of Raritan, IL, three sisters, Wanda Francis of Los Angeles, CA, Vada Hannah of San Bernardino, CA and Erma O’Neal of Stronghurst, IL, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two brothers and a grandson preceded her in death.
She worked at the former Gale Products, provided home daycare, and worked at The Marigold and Heartland Nursing Centers until she retired in 1998.
She was a 1939 graduate of Abingdon (IL) High School and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, the Jaycee-Ettes and several bowling leagues.
Her funeral will be 11:00 AM Thursday February 28, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Amos Clevenger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday February 27, 2002 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund.

Mr. James ‘Jim’ Howard

73, of 470 Knox Hwy 26 Galesburg, IL, died at 10:00 AM Sunday February 24, 2002 at his home.
He was born on January 26, 1929 in Quincy IL to J. Hollis and Jewel (Tatman) Howard. He married Kay Schroeder in Las Vegas NV on July 9, 1987. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Howard of Lakewood, CO, Nancy (and Tom) Johnson of Keller, TX and Lindy (and John) Peterson of Galesburg, IL, eight grandchildren and a great grandchild.
He was an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a graduate of Quincy High School and the Gem City Business School.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday February 27, 2002 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with Rev. James Vancil officiating. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Railroad Museum Building Fund or the American Heart Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ronald A. Rice

48, of 1400 Lindsay Lane Galesburg, IL, died at 10:45 AM Saturday February 23, 2002 at his home.
He was born on February 24, 1953 in Schowen ME to Francis O and Lorraine M. (Colby) Rice. He married Vicki W. Abel in Galesburg on September 9, 2000. She survives.
Also surviving are a step-daughter, Kelly Miller of Galesburg, IL, two step-sons, Neal Syrkel of Galesburg, IL and Scott Syrkel of Appleton, WI, a sister, Lorraine Sawyer of Bellmawr, NJ and a step grandson Gage Miller of Galesburg. A brother preceded him in death.
He drove for CX Roberson in Champaign IL for 14 years. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

Mr. Arthur L. Lewis

79, of 4555 Spring Canyon Heights #101 Colorado Springs, CO, died at 3:00 AM Friday February 22, 2002 at Pikes Peak Hospice, Colorado Springs, CO.
He was born on January 23, 1923 in Conway AR to Thomas O. and Isabell (Manuell) Lewis. He married Erma June Smith in Colorado Springs CO on September 21, 1950. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Laughter of San Diego, CA and Michelle (and David) MacAlpine of Plano, TX, 9 grandchildren. A son, Michael Ray Lewis, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He owned the Superior Construction Company in Colorado Springs for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology program in Estimating and Construction. He was a member of the Highview Baptist Church in Woodland Park CO. He served in the Army Medical Corp during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
His funeral will be 11:00 AM Wednesday February 27, 2002 at the Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg with Rev. Robert Eshleman officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
