Mr. Richard J. “Rich” “RJ” Kennedy

54, of 161 N. Arthur Ave. Galesburg, IL died 5:19 AM Saturday August 31, 2002 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria, IL.
He was born July 6, 1948 in Galesburg, IL to John F. and Shirley J. (Webster) Kennedy. He married Marilyn M. Pickrel on November 13, 1972 in Cambridge, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Shirley Kennedy of Galesburg, IL, his grandmother, Agnes Webster of Galesburg IL, a son, Douglas Hampton of Green Bay, WI, a brother, Joe Kennedy of Galesburg, IL and two sisters, JoAnn Webber of Peoria, IL and Marilyn McMenimen of East Peoria, IL. He is preceded in death by his father.
He worked as a Conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 31 years, retiring in 1998. He lived in Galesburg his entire life. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Galesburg IL in 1966. He attended Carl Sandburg College for 2 years.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was a member of the United Train Union. He was a member of the VFW #2257. He was a member of the Midwest Trapper. He was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant. He received the Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday September 5, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday September 4, 2002 at the Chapel with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials can be made to the family.

Mr. Roger E. Goben, Sr.

58, of 1566 Rock Island Ave. Galesburg, IL died Saturday August 31, 2002 at 4:30 PM at Knox County (IL) Roads 7 & 12
He was born December 11, 1943 in Moline, IL to Orville and Lucy Ione (Orwig) Goben. He first married Waunita Cole in Viola, IL in October 1962. He later married Nancy Peck in Galesburg, IL on November 7, 1980
He is survived by four sons, Roger (and Lori) Goben, Jr. of Effingham, IL, Mark Goben of Harvard, NE, Chad (and Amy) Goben and James Goben, both of Galesburg, IL, a daughter, Bonnie Goben of Olathe, KS, a step daughter, Patricia (and Eric) Foster of Galesburg, IL, seven brothers, Victor (and Bonnie) Goben of Texas, Larry (and Ruth) Goben of Sherrard, IL, Dennis Goben of Preemption, IL, Benne (and Judy) Goben of Viola, IL, Randy (and Lucy) Goben of Knoxville, IL, Michael (and Lalla) Goben of Waukegan, IL, and Steve (and Debbie) Goben of New Windsor, IL, two sisters, Sally (and Robert) Polk of Sherrard, IL and Sandra (Paul) Strandberg of Coal Valley, IL and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He worked for Galesburg Lincoln Mercury as a mechanic for 25 years. He enjoyed stock car racing and fishing.

Mrs. Nancy E. Goben

48, of 1566 Rock Island Ave. Galesburg, IL died Saturday August 31, 2002 at 4:32 PM at Knox County (IL) Roads 7 & 12.
She was born November 7, 1953 in Galesburg, IL to Clifford and Vivian (Hills) Peck. She married Roger E. Goben, Sr. in Galesburg, IL on November 7, 1980.
She is survived by her mother, Vivian R. Peck of Galesburg, IL, a son, James Goben of Galesburg, IL, three stepsons, Roger (and Lori) Goben, Jr. of Effingham, IL, Mark Goben of Harvard, NE and Chad (and Amy) Goben of Galesburg, IL, a daughter, Patricia (and Eric) Foster of Galesburg, IL, a stepdaughter, Bonnie Goben of Olathe, KS, a brother, Lawrence (and Martha) Peck of Galesburg, IL, a sister, Rosalie (Ed S.) McCullum of Ft. Madison, IA and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Jerome and John Michael Peck.
She worked at Maytag Corp. in Galesburg, IL for 29 years.

Mr. Donald Teel

74, of 169 Knox Hwy 37 Galesburg, IL, died at 1:45 PM Thursday August 29, 2002 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on August 10, 1928 in Sesser IL to Lester and Ruth (Martin) Teel. He married Hope L. Houfburg in Kirkwood IL on March 20, 1955. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Dale (and Melanie) Teel of Rio, IL, Dan (and Bridgette) Teel of Galesburg, IL and Mark (and Cornelia) Teel of Phoenix, AZ, a sister, Juanita (and Ted) Morgan of Phoenix, AZ and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
He worked as the Knox County Farm Advisor from the University of Illinois Extension Office for 40 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a 1946 graduate of Sesser (IL) High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Illinois. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday September 4, 2002 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Myer and Rev. James Middleton officiating. Burial will be in Henderson Grove Cemetery, Henderson Grove. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday September 3, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, Community Hospice of America or Habitat for Humanity.

Mr. Walter E. Foster

59, 2381 Knox Rd. 165E, Rio, IL, died at 2:10 PM Monday, August 26, 2002 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital ER.
He was born July 29, 1943 in Wataga, IL to Dean W. and Mary R. (Nelson) Foster. He married Kathryn Allen on December 30, 1988 in Burlington, IA. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Walter Lee Foster of Englewood, CO, two step-daughters, Kimberly Younge of Ohio, IL and Laura Allen of Monmouth, IL and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
He was a self employed mechanic, retiring in 1993.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday August 29, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. John Jones officiating. Private family graveside services will be Friday August 30, 2002 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the family.

Mrs. Judith Ann Williams

63, of South Whitley; IN died at 4:09 AM Monday August 26, 2002 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born March 21, 1939, in Galesburg, IL to Michael F and Anna M. (Leaf) Pferschy. She married Jerome F Schneider in 1957. She married Ronald T. Williams on Feb. 23, 1980.
Surviving are her husband, Robert, three sons, Gerald A. Schneider of East Peoria, IL, John M. Schneider of Columbia City, IN and Douglas A. (and Rhonda) Williams of Bloomington, IL; two daughters, Jolene Blanton of South Whitley, IL and Tiara A. Brekke of East Peoria, IL, her mother, Anna Pferschy of South Whitley, IN and a brother, Allen M. (and Ellen) Pferschy of East Galesburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother.
She worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria for 14 years. She was reared and educated in East Galesburg and graduated from Knoxville High School. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, Ind.
Graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Friday August 30, 2002 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Mary D. Coffey

65, of 709 Century Estates Galesburg, IL died Sunday August 25, 2002 at 3:50 AM at Cottage Hospital.
She was born December 1, 1936 in Galesburg, IL to George and Gertrude (Clifford) Allen. She first married Tom Cooley in Galesburg and later married Dale F. Coffey in Galesburg on August 21, 1981.
She is survived by her husband, Dale, two sons, John Cooley of Ft. Worth, TX and Michael (and Nancy) Cooley of Galesburg, IL, a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Caves of Galesburg, IL, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also survived by three special cousins whom she cared for Gary (and Patty) Smith and Dale (and Trish) Smith both of Galesburg, IL and Carol (and Joe) Vericella of Normal, IL. She was preceded in death by one grand daughter Amanda Kay Cooley.
She worked for Maytag Corporation for 41 years, being a warehouse supervisor for 20 years, retiring in 1998. After retiring she worked for the Galesburg Post for 2 years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday August 29, 2002 at Corpus Christi Church Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel where Rosary Services will be held at 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Edward W. "Bill" Herrin

62, of 440 E. Davis St. Galesburg, IL died Saturday August 24, 2002 at 3:51AM at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria, IL.
He was born June 27, 1940 in Galesburg, IL to William E. and Berneice (Pattison) Herrin. He married Nancy K. Finch in Galesburg, IL on December 24, 1957. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Robert D. Herrin of Galesburg, IL, two daughters, Mrs. James M. (Debra) Smith of Greybill, WY and Mrs. James D. (Sheri) Dickerson of Galesburg, IL, three sisters, Barbara Stoneking and Agnes Theobald, both of Galesburg, IL and Kay Carlock of Macomb, IL and nine grandchildren. He was preceded by one brother Edwin Herrin.
He graduated from Carl Sandburg College with an Associates Degree in Criminology. He worked for the Galesburg Police Department for 20 years retiring in September 1993 and then worked at Carl Sandburg College in the Security Department for the past 5 years. He was a member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association and was of the Southern Baptist Faith. He served in the US Air Force from 1957-1961.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday August 28, 2002 at East Linwood Cemetery with Elder Elbert Dickerson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday August 27, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mr. William R. (Moe) Lawson

68, of 1145 Bridge Ave. Galesburg, IL died at 2:05 PM Saturday August 24, 2002 at the Marigold Health Care Center Galesburg, IL
He was born December 31, 1933 in Galesburg, IL to John R. “Jeff” and Lillian A. (Rodger) Lawson. He first married Ruth M. Kjellander in Abingdon, IL on September 20, 1955 and later married Mary L. Baars in Peoria, IL on November 24, 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, a son, John W. Lawson of Tampa, Fl., three daughters, Mrs. Ivan (Judy Rose) Jennings of LaFayette, LA, Nancy Lawson of Houston, TX and Mrs. Terry (Susan) Foster of Oneida, IL, a sister, Marcia Conner of Abingdon, IL and three grandchildren. He was preceded by one brother and one sister.
He worked for Gale Products for seven years, and then was a salesman for M.R.S. Beverage, Bitcon Beverage and G&M Distributors, all in Galesburg, for a total of 21 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Abingdon (IL) High School and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956. He was a member of the American Legion Post 285, Elks Lodge 894, and the Dew Dusters Golf League.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday August 28, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Galesburg, IL with Rev. Paul Johnson and Rev. Frederick Larner officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday August 27, 2002 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ward O. Lacy

82, of 1391 N. Broad St. Galesburg, IL died 12:47 PM Thursday, August 22, 2002 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born March 10, 1920 in Knoxville, IL to Clarence R. and Ella L. (Lotts) Lacy. He married Joan M. Erne on May 8, 1948 in Galesburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jared W. (and Linda) Lacy of Knoxville, IL and Thomas E. (and Candice) Lacy of Peoria, IL, a brother, Robert L. Lacy of Morton, IL and four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers.
He worked as a Production Manager for Butler Manufacturing Company for 41 years, retiring in 1982. He lived in Galesburg since 1948. He graduated from Knoxville High School and Browns Business College.
He served in the Navy during World War II on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific combat area.
He was a member of the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Public Relations Committee. He was a member of the Galesburg Sanitary District Board of Trustees, serving as Vice President. He served on the Galesburg District #205 School Board of Education for 8 years, serving as President for 2 years. He was a member of the Knox County Board for 10 years, serving 4 years as Vice-Chairman. He was a past campaign chairman of the Knox County United Way. He was a past Board Member of the Galesburg Civic Art Center. He was a member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge #66 Knoxville IL. He served as chairman of the Board at the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg IL. He volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross. He served on the Board of Directors for the Knox County YMCA. He served on the Quint Cities Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society. He was a past member of the Board of the Visually Handicapped. He was a Board Member of the Carver Center in Galesburg IL. He was on the Government Relations Task Force. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Monday August 26, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen officiating. Private family burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the First United Presbyterian Church of Knoxville IL.
