Mrs. Nina V. Shriber

86, of 1564 Meadow Drive, Galesburg, IL died at 5:50 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2002 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born January 23, 1916 in Sandwich, IL to Gilbert and Minnie (Anderson) Collins. She married Harry Leo Shriber on May 29, 1938 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1972.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. (and Jackie) Shriber of Weatherford, TX and Rick (and Vicky) Shriber of Galesburg, IL, three daughters, Barb (and Lonnie) England and Donna (and Leroy) Boone, both of Wataga, IL and Kay (and Fred) Stevens of Galesburg, IL, a brother, Vernon (and Helen) Collins of Somonauk, IL, a sister, Viola Cassidy of Sandwich, IL, 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Wanda Peterson in 1996, four brothers, and a sister.
She worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 5 years. She then worked at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Good News Baptist Church, Galesburg. She was an avid bowler who was on several leagues at Northgate Lanes, the former East Main Bowl, and the former Galesburg Bowl. She was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday November 1, 2002 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Pastor Richard Shriber officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Good News Baptist Church.

Mr. James J. Morris

68, of 469 Peck St. Galesburg, IL died 3:10 AM Sunday October 27, 2002 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born December 22, 1933 in Stronghurst, IL the son of Frank and Susie McGee Morris. He married Norma Pratt in Monmouth IL on December 1, 1956. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Richard (and Joy) Morris of Galesburg IL, Robert D. Morris and Rodney D. Morris, both of Enid OK, a daughter, Mrs. Graeme (Deborah) Wagner of Yea, Australia, a brother, Larry Morris of Burlington, IA, a sister, Helen Penrod of Burlington IA, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers including his twin brother and a granddaughter.
He worked in the maintenance department of Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 20 ½ years, retiring in 1982. He was member of the Local Union #2063, a past member of the Moose Lodge #880, the former Eagles Lodge and the Abingdon Motorcycle Club.
Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday October 30, 200 in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Tom Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday October 29, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the family.

Mrs. Clara Belle Hopping

75, of 800 N. Market St., Knoxville, IL died Sunday October 27, 2002 at 9:25 PM at the Knox County Nursing Home Knoxville, IL.
She was born August 1, 1927 in Sterling, KS to William B. and Naomi D. (Miller) Brush. She married Gerald E. Hopping January 31, 1943 in Memphis, MO. He preceded in death on April 6, 1997.
She is survived by four children, Christy Wood and Terry Hopping, both of Colorado Springs, Co. and Sheridale Hopping and Pamela DeKeyrel, both of Galesburg, IL, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was an artist and a homemaker. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs, Co., a member of the Miniature Art Guild of Colorado, the International Society of Poets, and was active in scouting both boys and girls.
There will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.

Mrs. Olga E. Nelson

85, of 820 Warren St., Galesburg, IL died at 11:00 PM Sunday October 27, 2002 in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born May 8, 1917 in Galesburg, IL to Martin K. and Jennie A. (Kroon) Erlandson. She married Clarence J. Nelson on August 17, 1941 in Galesburg, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, Dr. Ronald J. Nelson of Scottsdale, AZ, a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Carolyn Jean) Anderson of Danville, IL, a brother, Philip H. (and Marilyn) Erlandson of LaCrosse, WI and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one sister.
She worked for the Federal Government in Washington DC for 10 years, Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, IL for 20 years and was the Galesburg (IL) City Clerk for 20 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the Independent Order of Svithiod, the Knox County Home Extension, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, the Municipal Clerks of Illinois and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a former member of the Galesburg Women’s Club, the Altrusa Club and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She graduated from Galesburg High School and Browns Business College and attended the University of Illinois. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church having served on the Church Council.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday October 30, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Mary Jane Sipes

96, Formerly of 935 Dayton Dr., Galesburg, IL, died at 6:35 PM Sunday October 27, 2002 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born January 14, 1906 in Galesburg, IL to William and Luella Watters Richardson. She married Robert H. Sipes on February 22, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death March 27, 1984.
She is survived by two nieces: Gloria Bohan, Galesburg, IL and JoAnne (and William F.) Wilbur, Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn W. Richardson and Ray Richardson, and a nephew, Paul Richardson.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Galesburg High School and Brown’s Business College. She was of the Baptist faith.
Private family graveside services were held Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carl D. Motz

67, of 157 S. Farnham St., Galesburg, IL died at 12:10 AM, Friday, October 25, 2002 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born August 5, 1935 in Wataga, IL to Carl R. and Glenna (Wilmot) Motz. He married Shirley M. Duvall Soper on October 25, 1969 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Glenna Motz of Galesburg, IL, two daughters, Rebecca Sue Shoemaker and Theresa Lynn Motz, both of Keithsburg, IL, a stepdaughter, Penny Barnes of O’Fallon, MO, a brother, Earl Eugene Motz of Galesburg, IL, two sisters, Margaret (and Paul) Henson and Vera Mae Heck, both of Galesburg, IL, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
He was a conductor for the former CB&Q Railroad and later for Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1997. He had lived in Galesburg most of his life and graduated from Galesburg High School. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.
Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday October 29, 2002 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, IL, with Rev. Curt Lipe officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Eloise I. Grubaugh

79, of 8703 Chase Dr. Arvada, CO, died at 4:14 PM Friday October 25, 2002 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Denver, CO.
Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Thursday October 31, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Chapel.

Mr. Ross Wilson

93, of 280 E. Losey St., Galesburg, IL, formerly of North Henderson, IL, died at 1:40 PM Thursday, October 24, 2002 in Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born September 28, 1909 in Wataga, IL to James and Anna (Young) Wilson. He married Betty May Knapp on July 14, 1945 in London Mills, IL.
Surviving is a son, James (and Becky) Wilson of Rio, IL, two daughters, Rosie Allen of Galesburg, IL and Annie Eisele of East Peoria, IL, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three half brothers.
He was a farmer, sheep shearer, and horse trainer for many years, retiring in 1974. He had lived in Dahinda for 25 years, Wataga, North Henderson for several years, and in New Windsor.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Monday October 28, 2002 in Wataga (IL) Cemetery with Rev. Kurt Carlsen officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday October 27, 2002 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Henderson Grove, IL.

Dr. Grant Hopkins Harnest

85, of Middlebury, VT, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at his home on Thursday, October 24, 2002.
He was born November 23, 1916 in Carthage, IL to Waldo W. and Goldie Mae (Hopkins) Harnest. He married Kathryn I. Hampson in 1945. She preceded him in death in 1983.
She is survived by two cousins, Jane Hopkins Parker of Atlanta, GA and Robert Hopkins of Little Rock, AR, a sister-in-law, Edith Hampson Coon of Peoria, IL and her children, Wayne Coon of Atlanta, GA, David Coon of Pullman, WA, John Coon and Mary Ann Coon Dorris, both of Peoria, IL and Nancy Coon Taylor, Washington, IL, a friend who helped care for his home, Mark Trudeau of Middlebury, VT, his housekeeper, gardener, and caregiver, Joan Warner of Middlebury, VT and longtime colleagues and friends, Janet and Kirk Roberts of Palo Alto, CA, Mimi Pool and Marie and Walt Moyer, all of Middlebury, VT. He was preceded in death by a brother.
He was a chemistry professor at Middlebury College for 36 years. During his tenure in the Department of Chemistry, he held the John G. McCullough Professorship from 1962 to 1975. He then held the Irene Heinz and John LaPorte Given Professorship in premedical sciences from 1972 to 1982. He had served as the chairman of the Department of Chemistry, chairman of the Division of Natural Sciences, and on the committee of Reappointment for 12 years. In 1974, he was awarded the James Flack Norris Award of the Northeastern section of the American Chemical Society for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching of Chemistry and he received an Alumni Achievement Award from Knox College, Galesburg, IL in 1982. He graduated from Knox College and from Middlebury College with his master’s degree in Chemistry in 1941. He received his PhD from the University of Virginia in 1946.

Mrs. Maxine J. “Jackie” Jobe

84, of 1599 Moshier Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 4:32 PM, Wednesday, October 23, 2002 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born January 30, 1918 in Galesburg, IL to Ray Ellsworth and Ivy May (Grammont) Macklin. She married Paul V. Jobe on February 4, 1965 in Rock Island, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, William J. (and Nola) Knowles of Portland, OR, a stepson, Paul “Nick” (and Sue) Jobe of Walnut Creek, CA, a step daughter, Vickie Kammerman in Illinois, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
She was a homemaker who had lived in Galesburg most of her life. She was a member of the Women’s Relief Corp and had served as its department president from 1976 to 1978 and from 1985 to 1986. She was a member of the White Shrine, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 Auxiliary, and the Ladies of the Moose Lodge 880.
Private family graveside services will be Saturday October 26, 2002 in Rio (IL) Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Derick Bacon officiating. Memorials can be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
