Mr. Rick L. Peterson

73, of 256 Selden St., Galesburg, IL died at 9:05 PM Saturday, November 30, 2002 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born November 11, 1929 in Galesburg, IL to C. Lambert and Elsie H. (Carlson) Peterson.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Frances E. Ray, and his lifelong friend, Robbie Rhea, both of Galesburg who cared for him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked for the former CB&Q, later Burlington Northern Railroad in Galesburg for 33 years, primarily as the office manager of the Livestock Traffic Department. He retired in 1985. He also owned farmland in Warren County and was a securities investor and trader.
He was a graduate of Galesburg High School and attended Knox College, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the Gale Society, and the President’s Circle.
He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of Vesper Masonic Lodge, Knight Templar, and the Shriners. He was a member of Knox County Humane Society and the Illinois Corn Grower’s Association. He supported the Knox/Galesburg Symphony, Prairie Players, and NOVA Singers.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday December 4, 2002 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Knox County Humane Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walter W. Younker

63, 284 Westport Road, Galesburg, IL died at 5:07 PM Friday, November 29, 2002 in Pana Community Hospital ER, Pana, IL.
He was born February 19, 1939 in Boody, IL to Burl W. and Sarah Elizabeth (King) Younker. He married Carolyn R. Bugg on January 13, 1962 in Assumption, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Stephen (and Wendi) Younker of Mason City, Iowa, two daughters, Beth Younker of Nashville, TN and Vonda Jane Younker of Galesburg, IL, two brothers, Roy Younker of Pana, IL and Del (and Patti) Younker of Winter Springs, FL, a sister, Barbara (and Art) Markham of Moweaqua, IL and two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kyle.
He was general manager for F. S. Inc for 38 years, working in Quincy, IL, Moravia, IA, Emmetsburg, IA, Vinton, IA, and the last 9 years in Knox County, IL. He retired in 2000. He was a 1957 graduate of Assumption High School and a 1961 graduate of University of Illinois. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Galesburg, where he served on the Trustee Board, was chairman of the Finance Committee, and was in the Bell Choir. He was a member of Noon Rotary Club, Knox County Farm Bureau, and Lake Bracken Country Club, all in Galesburg. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1962.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday December 4, 2002 in First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday December 3, 2002 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday December 5, 2002 in Warren County Hope Cemetery, near Alexis, IL. Mrs. Sylvia B. Hamman

93, of 1384 N. Henderson St. Galesburg, IL, died at 4:10 PM Thursday November 28, 2002 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
She was born on December 22, 1908 in Argos, IN to William and Iva (McCreary) Hartman. She married Arthur Eugene Hamman in Indiana on June 1, 1929. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1961.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy (and Ed) Ekstedt of Altona, IL, two sons, Terry Hamman of Bellevue, WA and Arthur Hamman, Jr. of Galesburg, IL, two brothers, Charles Hartman of Antioch, CA and William Hartman of Holly Hill, FL, a sister, June Sischo of Michigan City, IN, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a 1 great great grandchild. Three sisters and a grandson preceded her in death.
She was a sales person for J.C. Penney for 18 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Chapter 235 of the Order of Eastern Star and O.A.K.S. She was a 1926 graduate of the San Pierre High School and the South Bend Business College.
Her funeral will be 10:00 AM Tuesday December 3, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Bob Nutzhorn officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

Mr. Eugene H. Fogarty

79, of 124 Sunnyview Galesburg, IL, died at 4:00 AM Thursday November 28, 2002 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on December 4, 1922 in St. Augustine, IL to James H. and Blanche A. (Babbitt) Fogarty. He married Dorothy E. Sharp in Galesburg, IL on August 11, 1945. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rosemary (and Dale) Brooks of Galesburg, IL and Kathleen (and Richard) Casteel of New Albany, MS, a sister, Maxine Worman of Phoenix, AZ and four grandchildren.
He was a foreman at Brown’s Specialty Company in Galesburg for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Galesburg. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Fair, receiving five battle stars.
His funeral will be 10:00 AM Monday December 2, 2002 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Church. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mrs. Nell V. Wells

96 of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg, IL died 4:15 PM Thursday November 28, 2002 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born June 9, 1906 to Tellis and Ida Ellen (Tripp) Cato. She married Ellis T. Wells in Marion, IL on July 20, 1925. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1974.
She is survived by a daughter, Maxine Payton of Galesburg, IL, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sincerity Lodge # 6. She attended Bethel Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday December 3, 2002 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Derek Bacon officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Humane Society or charity of the donors choice.

Mrs. Eunice Carlson

85, of 767 Locust St. Galesburg, IL, died at 7:30 PM Thursday November 28, 2002 at 767 Locust St., Galesburg, IL.
She was born on March 2, 1917 in Monmouth, IL to George L. and Mattie G. (Gray) French. She married Carl E. Carlson in Galesburg, IL on September 14, 1935. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1992.
She is survived by a son, Steven (and Rita) Carlson of Red Bay, AL, a daughter, Janet (and Gene) Hulick of Kewanee, IL, two sisters, Bessie M. Hand of Monticello, IA and Dorothy Sensabaugh of Abingdon, IL, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She worked in the cafeteria at Lombard Jr. High School for 15 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg.

Mrs. Marian S. Griffith

88, of 348 Lawrence Ave. Galesburg, IL died at 7:00 AM Wednesday November 27, 2002 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg, IL.
She was born May 19, 1914 in Galesburg, IL to Ward and Ruth (Peterson) Stephens. She married Harley L. Griffith in Galesburg IL on October 26, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1997.
Surviving is one son Walter E. (and Debbie) Griffith of Marietta, GA, a daughter, Mrs. John (Karen) Parker of Bloomington, IL, a half brother, Howard Stephens of Peoria, IL, a sister, Helen Wells of East Peoria, IL, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by his parents, husband, and one brother.
She worked at Admiral Maytag Corporation for 27 years, retiring in 1977. She was a graduate of Galesburg High School and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, IL.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Monday December 2, 2002 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Mr. Roger ‘Todd’ Scannell

39, of 255 W. Tompkins St. Galesburg, IL, died at 8:45 PM Wednesday November 27, 2002 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on April 26, 1963 in Galesburg, IL to Roger A. and Sandra (Lashbrook) Scannell. He married Kellie M. Loveall in Galesburg on April 15, 1983.
He is survived by his parents, Roger and Sandrae Scannell of Galesburg, IL, Grandparents, Claire and Iva Grice of Galesburg, IL, a son, Joshua Scannell of Kewanee, IL and a sister, Tamara (and James) Guest of Bettendorf, IA.
He worked with Power Rooter Services in Columbus, OH. He was a 1981 graduate of Galesburg (IL) High School.
His funeral will be 1:30 PM Monday December 2, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Mrs. Esther M. Reed

76, of 835 Pine Street Galesburg, IL, died at 10:35 AM, Wednesday November 27, 2002 at her home.
She was born on March 6, 1926 in Moline, IL to Carl and Emilie (Nelson) Rassmussen. She married Earl M. Reed in Moline, IL on February 22, 2947. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeff (and Terry) Reed of Galesburg, IL and Richard (and Debbie) Reed of Hanahan, SC, three daughters, Sharon (and John) D’Agastino of South Plainfield, NJ, Mary C. Reed and Connie (and Scott) Vaughn, both of Fouson, CA, a sister, Helen (and Howard) Hauk of Deming, NM, six grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
She was the lead cashier at the former Arlan’s Department Store and did accounting and bookkeeping for the Swanson Honda Shop and Service Department, both in Galesburg. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Lake Bracken Country Club and O.A.K.S. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a graduate of the New Boston (IL) High School and of Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
Memorial services will be 3:30 PM Monday December 2, 2002 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Private family graveside memorial services will be in Knoxville (IL) Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. Monday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Harold W. Steele, Sr.

82, of 1245 W. Grove St., Galesburg, IL died 7:15 PM Monday November 25, 2002 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born on May 3, 1920 in Burton, IL to Lester E. and Hazel (Reinhardt) Steele. He married Vera P. Kesterson on June 14, 1941 in New London MO. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Harold W. (and Norma June) Steele, Jr. of Galesburg, IL, three daughters, Sandra L. Steele of Galesburg, IL, Susan M. (and Raymond) Haffner of Mackinaw, IL and Nancy (and George E.) Harrison of Avon, IN, a brother, Eugene (and Lois) Steele of Burton, IL, two sisters, Reba (and Mikie) Brock of Burton, IL and Millie (and Dale) Fleer of Quincy, IL, six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He drove truck for Hartrich Trucking in Payson, IL and later worked for the former Sampson Implements in Galesburg, IL from 1966-1985, retiring in 1985.
Gravesides services will be 12:00 PM Friday November 29, 2002 in Gilson (IL) Cemetery with Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor choice or the American Diabetes Foundation.
