Mrs. Hattie M. Nelson, Galesburg Chapel

100, of 889 Monroe St. Galesburg, IL died 1:43 PM Friday January 31, 2003 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born August 11, 1902 in Davenport, IA to Frank and Martha (Sommerfelt) Ruschill. She married Kermit C. Nelson on May 16, 1923 in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1988.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth R. Nelson of Galesburg, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a two brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker. She volunteered 18 ½ years for the American Red Cross and was a 1500 hour volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Farmington, IL, the Academy of Friendship and the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday February 4, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Chapel. Graveside services will be 12 Noon in the Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, IA. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Donald L. Reagor, Abingdon Chapel

Donald Lee Reagor, 74, of 272 Knox Road 400 E., died at 5:20 am Friday, January 31, 2003 at his home. He was born February 2, 1928 in Roodhouse, Il. to William E. and Amand Smith Reagor. He married Leona M. Rochester on October 27, 1950 in Roodhouse. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his Parents, one Brother and one Sister. Surviving are one son, William L. (and Claudia) Reagor of Roodhouse, one daughter, Debra (and Lewis) Turner of RR St. Augustine, one brother, Vince Reagor of Roodhouse, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He graduated from Roodhouse High School. He served in the US Army for three years. He worked as a mental health technician for the State of Illinois in Jacksonville, Galesburg and Peoria for 36 years, retiring in February of 1988. He had lived in Abingdon and St. Augustine areas since 1973 where he also worked as a dispatcher of the Abingdon Police Department and later as an attendant at the Wareco gas station. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, Manchester Masonic Lodge and Springfield Shriners. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyded attending high school sporting events. He also enjoyed bowling, Hunting and fishing. Graveside service with military rites will be at 10:30 am Monday at Manchester Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 pm Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon and from 4 - 7 pm Sunday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Roodhouse where Masonic Rites will also be conducted. Dr. Dwight Emerson Conklin, Galesburg Chapel

73, of 1963 Knox Rd. 200 E Galesburg IL died 1:40 AM Thursday January 30, 2003 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home Galesburg IL.
He was born February 26, 1929 in Wright Township Pottawattamie County Iowa the son of Ralph F. and Luella Mae (Robinson) Conklin. He married Willa “Charlene” DeWitt on June 7, 1952 in Griswold IA. She survives.
Survivors include two sons William Emerson DeWitt Conklin of Fayetteville NC, Robert Charles Conklin of Galesburg IL, two daughters Dr. Beth Ann Conklin (and Robert W. Pierce) of Nashville TN, Barbara Jeanne-Anne Conklin Andreski of Lakeland FL, two sisters Cletis D. Wilson of San Jose CA, Grethel J. (and Samuel G.) Newcom of Redding CA, three grandchildren, Andrew Thomas Crawford Andreski, Charles James DeWitt Andreski and Alan James Pierson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son James Dwight Conklin on July 21, 1989.
He served as Captain in the US Army Medical Corp stationed in Fort Sam Houston in San Antonia TX and Frankfort Babenbausen and Aeschaffenburg Germany. He served as a two years active duty as a commissioned officer in the Medical ROTC while in medical school.
He worked as an anesthesiologist for ten years at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, retiring on December 30, 1994. He graduated from high school in Griswold IA in 1947 and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls IA in 1950 and the College of Medicine State University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1954. He has lived in Griswold Lake City, Iowa City Oakland IA where he had a general practice. He practiced anesthesiology for 20 years in Waterloo IA. He has lived in Galesburg since 1984. He served his internship 1954-55 at the Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester CN, he did his residency at the University Hospitals in Iowa City IA from 1961-1962 and Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle WA. He was a past member of the Knox County Medical Society. He was a member of the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg IL and Sanibel Congregational Church in Sanibel Island FL.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday February 1, 2003 at Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold IA. Burial will be in Wright Township Cemetery in Pottawattamie County IA. Memorials can be made to the Central Congregational Church, Galesburg Public Library and OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Mrs. Jeri F. Ponte, Galesburg Chapel

83, of 186 W. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg IL died at 9:00 PM Wednesday January 29, 2003 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born July 20, 1919 in Tulsa OK the daughter of Charles and Margaret Raines Matlock. She married Curtis Fields, she later married Victor Vasilauskas and then she married Alfred Ponte.
She is survived by three sons Garold (and Ann) Fields of Galesburg Il, Wayne (and Cindy) Fields of Waylan MO and Richard (and Barbara) Fields of Vierro Beach FL, thirteen grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, all three husbands, one son Michael Vasilauskas and one grandson Stephen Fields.
She worked as an Audit Clerk at Grodins Department Store in CA, retiring in 1988. She graduated from high school in Sand Springs OK. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday February 1, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Concord CA. Memorials can be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Maxine M. Blixt, Galesburg Chapel

92, of 761 E. North St. Galesburg IL died 7:35 PM Wednesday January 29, 2003 in Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 21, 1910 in Good Hope IL the daughter of William Earl and Isla Dawn (Craig) Rigg. She married Walter E. Blixt in Galesburg IL on August 4, 1931. He preceded her in death December 31, 1990.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Willis (Sharon) Olin of Galesburg IL, two grandchildren Erick T. Olin and Dawn M. Price both of Galesburg IL and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
She was a homemaker. She lived in Galesburg most her life. She was a member of the Seniors Retirees from Maytag. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Circle within the church.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday February 1, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Friday January 31, 2003 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Faith United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Azalee W. Seales, Galesburg Chapel

93, of 84 N. Elm St. Galesburg, IL died at 11:30 AM Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at her home.
She was born June 19, 1909 in Little Rock, AR to Chester and Mattie (Pierce) Ward. She married Willie Seales on December 6, 1954 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1983.
She is survived by a sister. Enzalee Cunningham of Little Rock, AR, two nieces whom she raised, Elnora Ward and Juanita (and Carlos) Duncan, both of Galesburg, IL and a host of other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.
She was a homemaker. She also worked in housekeeping at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital and was a house keeper at Immaculate Heart of Mary Rectory and for Dr. Richard Flacco. She was a former member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Church where she served on the usher board and served as church secretary. She was a member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church serving in the mother board and usher board.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday February 3, 2003 at the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. T.L. Grissom officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Richard L. Hamilton, Galesburg Chapel

55, 890 Jefferson St. Galesburg IL died 6:38 AM Tuesday January 28, 2003 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born June 25, 1947 in Kewanee, IL the son of Raymond H. and Alice Gorham Hamilton. He married Linda L. Borop in Walnut, IL on January 6, 1980. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters Laura G. Hamilton in Valparaiso IN and Mary B. Hamilton of Galesburg IL, one niece Megan R. Hamilton of Charleston IL who was raised in his home, and one sister Ann Hamilton of Kewanee, IL. He was preceded in death by one brother and his parents.
He was co-owner of the Trips Bicycle Shop in Galesburg for 13 years. He also was a salesman for J & B Importers in Miami FL for 10 years. He has lived in Galesburg over 35 years. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in Kewanee IL.
He was a member of the Little John Conservation Club in Victoria IL. He was a member of the Illinois Wheelman Bicycle Club and the Galesburg Bicycle Club. He was a member of the Galesburg High School Band Booster and the Galesburg High School Athletic Booster Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a trustee of the church.
Memorial Services will be 11:30 AM Friday January 31, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Norman Myer officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at the Church. Mrs. Ramona D. Hicks, Galesburg Chapel

74, of 146 Hawkinson Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 6:37 PM Tuesday, January 28, 2003 in Rochester, MN.
She was born November 29, 1928 in Peru, IL to Clarence M. and Louise “Betty” (Ross) Angell. She married David N. Hicks, Sr. on February 28, 1948 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving is her mother, Betty Morris of La Salle, IL, two sons, David N. Hicks, Jr. of Portland, OR and Philip W. Hicks of Dundee, IL, a daughter, Leslie D. Peot of Geneva, IL, four grandchildren and a sister, Dolores M. Polillo of Galesburg, IL.
She was a homemaker and also had worked as a medical secretary. She was retired. She was a 1946 graduate of Galesburg High School. She was a member of First Christian Church, Galesburg and the Galesburg Women’s Club. She was a volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and was a reading buddy at Steele Elementary School.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Sunday February 2, 2003 at First Christian Church with Rev. David Kniker officiating. Memorials can be made to First Christian Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thelma M. Grimm, Galesburg Chapel

76, 1880 Knox Rd. 1350 E. Knoxville IL died 11:06 PM Monday January 27, 2003 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born November 30, 1926 in Prairie du Chien WI the daughter of David Eli and Julia Ann Wachuta Kramer. She married Charles C. Grimm in Prairie du Chien WI on November 18, 1944. He died June 15, 1975.
Survivors include one son David C. Grimm in Knoxville IL, one daughter Denise M. Haskovec in Knoxville IL, one brother Clarence Kramer in Red Granite WI and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
She worked as a Dairy Farmer in Eastman WI for several years. She was a homemaker and helped raise her grandchildren. She was a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 880 and the Women’s Senior Bowling League both in Galesburg, IL. She was a member of the Eastman Wesleyan Methodist Church in Eastman WI.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Friday January 31, 2003 in National Cemetery in Eastman WI with Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday January 30, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Friday January 31, 2003 at Lake Thornburg Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. Mrs. Bessie M. Swank

78, of 553 Hackberry Road, Galesburg, IL died at 6:45 PM Sunday, January 26, 2003 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born February 14, 1924 in Berwick, IL to Alex and Gertrude (Meadows) Drummond. She married Lloyd R. Swank on May 20, 1950 in Galesburg. He survives.
She is also survived by nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters.
She worked at American Sanitary in Abingdon for many years. She then was the snack bar manager at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for several years before retiring in 1986.
Private graveside memorial services will be in the Berwick (IL) Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be made to American Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
