Mrs. Mary E. Nelson, Galesburg Chapel

88, of 1384 N. Henderson St., Galesburg, IL died at 8:39 PM Thursday, February 27, 2003 in Decatur (IL) Memorial Hospital.
She was born on April 4, 1914 in Bushnell, IL to Elmer and Lula Zoe Langston Tiffany Predmore. She married Carl J. Nelson on November 21, 1936 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1977.
She is survived by a son, Charles Nelson of Monmouth, IL, a sister, Ruth Luders of Davenport, IA, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Davis in 1994, two grandchildren, a brother and four sisters.
She was a homemaker who had worked for the former Galesburg State Research Hospital. She was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church and O.A.K.S., both in Galesburg.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday March 3, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Bob Wakefield officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Monday at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Foursquare Gospel Church or O.A.K.S..

Coryne Izabel Jean Perez, Galesburg Chapel

3 days old, of 2066 Newcomer Dr. Galesburg, IL died at 3:32 PM on Tuesday February 25, 2003 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria IL.
She was born February 22, 2003 in Galesburg, IL to Jason Cory and Rhonda Renee (Miller) Perez. They survive.
Also surviving is a brother, Jonathan Lee Tracy at home, three sisters, Khrystyne An-Mari Tracy at home, Rebecca Renee Perez and Caitlynn Ann-Nicole Perez, both of Niles MI, grandmothers, Vickie Cadwell and Patricia Jean Perez, both of Galesburg, IL, grandfather Frank Perez of Galesburg, IL, several aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles and cousins survive. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Raymond W. Miller in 1988.
She was baptized in the Christian faith on February 22, 2003. She was an organ donor.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday March 1, 2003 at the First Church of the Open Bible with Rev. Ted Gillum officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Mrs. Sandra S. Trotter, Galesburg Chapel

59, 1300 Lincoln RD Monmouth IL died 12:15 PM Monday February 24, 2003 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born September 5, 1943 in Galesburg IL the daughter of Joe and Kathryn Parmenter Monzo. She married Gary R. Trotter in Galesburg IL on September 3, 1968.
Survivors include her husband Gary of Monmouth IL, her parents Joe and Kathryn Monzo of Galesburg IL, one sister JoAnne (husband David) Nelson of Galesburg IL and one niece and one nephew.
She worked at the Security Savings Bank in Monmouth IL for ten years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1961. She lived in Monmouth since 1971. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth IL.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Thursday February 27, 2003 in East Linwood Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Creegan and Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the Warren County Relay for Life/American Cancer Society.

Mr. John Paul Rogers, Galesburg Chapel

66, 835 Wisconsin Ave., Galesburg, died at 5:16 AM, Monday, February 24, 2003 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born June 17, 1936 in Galesburg, the son of Floyd A. and Lois I. Marcum Rogers. He was raised by Hazel Marcum. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death a brother.
He is survived by 2 sons: John Paul Rogers II, Galesburg and Joseph Patrick Rogers, Victoria, IL, a grandson: Joshua Rogers, Victoria, a brother: Tom Rogers, Lake Elsinore, CA, and a special friend and companion: “M” of Galesburg.
He was a self-employed painting contractor in the Galesburg area. He retired as a painter from the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL after 8 years.
He was a 1954 graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a member of Elks Lodge 894, Galesburg. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
A memorial gathering of friends and relatives will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Wednesday February 26, 2003 at Mac’s Place, 2320 Grand Ave., Galesburg, IL. Graveside memorial services will be at a later date in Salem, IL. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. F. E. “Ed” Middaugh, Galesburg Chapel

73, 1899 Patterson Drive, Galesburg, died at 11 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2003 in Naples, FL.
He was born April 26, 1929 in Galesburg, the son of Marion Leland and Hortense Loreda Williamson Middaugh. He married Carole Fuhrken on March 5, 1956 in Manhattan, KS. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1980. He then married Virginia Adams Moss on October 24, 1980 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son: Daniel Middaugh, Galesburg, 2 daughters: Patricia (and Robert) Richert, Atlantic, Iowa and Janet Middaugh, Arlington, TX, 3 step sons: Thomas (and Tina) Moss, Chicago, David (and Margaret) Moss, Bloomington, IL, and Timothy (and Alice) Moss, Rock Island, IL, a sister: Joan Spero, Champaign, IL, and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Peggy McGraw on March 21, 1996.
He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Financial Planner for 25 years. He retired in 1997. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg.
He was a staff sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a survivor of the Battle of “Chosin Reservoir” Conflict. He was a member of the Fraternity of Honor “The Chosin Few”, the First Marine Division Association, Korean War Veteran’s Association, VFW Post 2257, and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Friday February 28, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mr. David Scholl officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday February 27, 2003 at the Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.

Mr. John McNary, Galesburg Chapel

73, 1145 Frank St., Galesburg, died at 7:20 AM Friday, February 21, 2003 in Galesburg Terrace Nursing Home.
He was born January 18, 1930 in Lebolt, Mississippi, the son of Thomas and Pearl Clark McNary.
He was of Baptist faith and had served in the United States Navy.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday February 25, 2003 in East Linwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. David E. Wherley, Abingdon Chapel

, 47, 305 W. Jackson St. died at 6:25 am Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital E.R..
He was born June 3, 1955 in Galesburg to Ronald E. “Jack” and Maxine Thomas Wherley. He married Jean A. Gray on December 29, 1974 in Abingdon. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents of RR Abingdon, one son, Jacob at home; three daughters, Liza (Stephen) Owen of RR Abingdon, Annie Wherley and Mindy Wherley both at home; one sister, Suzanne (Rod) Batson of Abingdon; four brothers, Larry (Judy) Wherley of RR Abingdon, Tom Wherley of RR Abingdon, Roger (Joan) Wherley of Broken Arrow, OK, and Richard (Dana) Wherley of RR Eureka, Il.; and several nieces and nephews.
He had lived in Abingdon area all his life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1973. He had worked at the former Consumer Grain Company, Illini Feed, was a janitor at Abingdon High School and presently was employed as a conductor for Burlington Northern Sante Fe railroad in Galesburg.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Abingdon. He was a 4-H leader for the Bracken Busy Bees 4-H Club and served as a Cedar Township Trustee
Services will be at 11 am Saturday at his church with Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 – 8 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West chapel in Abingdon.
Memorials may be made to an Education Fund for his children at Tompkins State Bank in Abingdon.

Mrs. Elsie Mae Ketzle, Galesburg Chapel

93, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg, IL died 10:30 PM Thursday February 20, 2003 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born February 16, 1909 in Durham NC to Charles A. and Elsie (Norman) Johnson. She married Morris C. Ketzle in Reynolds IL on May 18, 1935. He died in 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay (and Charles) Ketzle Nicolaysen of Lithonia, GA, a brother, Charles (and Gladys) Johnson of Aledo, IL, a sister, Beulah Faye (and Leland) Woodburn of Green Valley, AZ, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Rock Island High School and Augustana College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday February 24, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or Community Hospices of America.

Mr. Richard E. Ray, Galesburg Chapel

68, of 1415 Beecher Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 6:58 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2003 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born on June 9, 1934 in Abingdon, IL to Ora E. and Edris E. (Bowden) Ray. He married Patricia Ann Frakes on October 2, 1959 in Galesburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Ted L. (and Valerie) Ray of Brimfield, IL, a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Ray of Galesburg, IL, a half brother, David R. (and Mary) Severns of Oquawka, IL, a sister, Dora Mae (and Jim) Nowlan in Arizona and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He was an inspector for the Galesburg Sanitary District from September 13, 1960, retiring in 1999. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Saturday February 22, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Friday February 21, 2003 at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Humane Society.

Hank Allen Meyer, Abingdon Chapel

, infant son of Rex and Patsy Bishop Meyer Sr. was stillborn at 6:31 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
Surviving are his parents, one sister, Rose Ann Meyer, two brothers, Rex Allen Meyer Jr. and Steve Austin Meyer all at home; grandparents, Junior and Patricia Bishop of Berwick, Allen and Helen Meyer of Abingdon, great grandpa William Pieper of Berwick.
Private services will be held with Eleanor Landon officiating.
