Mr. Louis A. Gamage, Galesburg Chapel

85, of 594 Fifer St., Galesburg, IL died Saturday May 31, 2003 at 11:47 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg, IL.
He was born October 12, 1917 in Macomb, IL to John and Ida Vance Gamage. He married Wilma Dorsett on July 31, 1939 in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on June 4, 2000.
He is survived by one son, Dick Gamage of Pekin, IL, a daughter, Penny Gamage of Petersburg, IL, four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three daughter, two brothers and seven sisters.
He was an insurance agent for Country Companies until 1969 then was an agent and claims adjuster for Gamage Insurance Agency, retiring in 1982. He then taught math at Carl Sandburg College for 11 years and at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg for 8 years, retiring in 1999. He was a 1938 graduate of Macomb High School. He received three associate degrees from Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg, IL. He as a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Military Tract Lodge 145 and the Alpha Masonic Lodge. After retirement he was the author of five fictional novels. He served in the United States Army.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday June 5, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Elder Lloyd Tripp and Dr. William Crisman officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, IL. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 PM Wednesday June 4, 2003 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Retta Hazel Kidwell, Abingdon Chapel

80, of Berwick died at 11:20 pm Friday, May 30, 2003 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center E.R. in Galesburg.
She was born February 4, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska to George W. and Hazel Cole Condiff. She married Leo A. “Bert” Kidwell on June 1, 1940 in St. Augustine, Il.. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Larry Kidwell of Gilson; one daughter, Kay Cecil; 6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers
She worked at the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Company in Abingdon and was a homemaker. She had lived in Berwick since 1979.
Cremation was accorded. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon.
Memorials may be made to the Warren County Humane Society.

Mr. Curtis E. Carlson, Galesburg Chapel

79, of 102 - 1st Street, Marlane Addition, Alpha, IL, died at 10:45 AM Thursday, May 29, 2003 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born September 28, 1923 in Rio, IL to Fred and Nannie Johnson Carlson. He married Willodeane Brown on July 18, 1948 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons: Steve Carlson of Biggsville, IL and Lowell (and Cheryl) Carlson of Rio, IL, a daughter: Gloria Carlson of Jonesboro, GA, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother: Lester Carlson of Moline, IL and two sisters: Inez Young and Marilyn Main, both of Rio, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great grandson.
He farmed in the Rio and Oneida areas for 30 years. He also worked in construction with H.L.R. Carlson Construction of Woodhull for 15 years and operated an income tax preparation service. He graduated from Alpha High School in 1942. He received his associated degree in Accounting in 1977 from Carl Sandburg College. He was a lifelong resident of the Alpha and Oneida areas. He was a member of the Rio Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past Patron of the Rio Eastern Star and member and past Master of Rio Masonic Lodge 685. He served on the board of directors of the Oneida Farmers Co-Op for 15 years. He was a former leader of the Oneida Livestock 4-H Club for many years. A World War II US Navy veteran, he served in the Philippines. He was a member and past Commander of the Rylander Milroy American Legion Post 727, Oneida. He was also past Commander of the Illinois American Legion District 15.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday June 2, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Dave Dennis officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday June 2, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Masonic rites will be presented at 4:00 PM by Rio Masonic Lodge 685. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the Rylander Milroy American Legion Post 727. Mr. Jay Walter Pacey, Galesburg Chapel

45, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Galesburg, died Thursday, May 29, 2003 in Dallas.
He was born November 10, 1957 in Frankfort, Germany to John and Rebecca Pacey.
He is survived by his father: John "Jack" Pacey of Oak Run, Dahinda, IL, two brothers: Craig Pacey of Fayetteville, NC and Kris (and Tina) Pacey of Bakersfield, CA, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He was a self employed designer and installer of home entertainment systems and media rooms. He worked all over the United States and provided services to many celebrities.
He was a 1975 graduate of Galesburg High School. He attended Illinois State University. He had lived in Dallas since 1977.

95, of275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg, IL died at 1:55 PM Wednesday, May 28, 2003 in Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born March 18, 1908 in Galesburg, IL to Edwin and Mary Carroll Astle.
She is survived by a sister: Geraldine Searl of Galesburg, IL and two nephews: Tom Searl of Galesburg, IL and Ron Searl of Greenville, NC.
She was a 1928 graduate of Galesburg High School. She also graduated from beauty school. She was a hairdresser for 50 years, working at Jo’s Beauty Shop. She was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Mary.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday June 1, 2003 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Mr. Max P. Coe, Jr., Galesburg Chapel

63, from Tarpon Springs, FL formerly of Galesburg, IL, died Thursday December 19, 2002 at his home.
He was born January 28, 1939 in Galesburg, IL to Max P. and Betty Reimer Coe, Sr.
Survivors include his father, Max P. Coe, Sr. of Galesburg, IL, one brother, Joe Coe of Galesburg IL and a sister, Lana Danke of Phoenix AZ. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He made a career in the Air Force serving as AC 130 Flight Engineer for two tours duty in Vietnam. He also served in Spain, Iran and Puerto Rico. He received two Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a 1957 graduate of Galesburg High School.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday May 27, 2003 in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.

Mrs. Olive E. Page, Galesburg Chapel

92, 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg, IL died at 8:15 PM Monday, May 26, 2003 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born September 7, 1910 in Burlington, IA to Roy and Iola Agnes Luke Campbell. She married Henry J. Page on November 30, 1930 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1999.
She is survived by a son: Stephen H. Page of New Haven, MO, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
She was a homemaker. She attended Galesburg High School and Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, the home extension, and was a volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday May 30, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. James Hazelwood officiating. Mrs. Vivian I. Brown, Galesburg Chapel

89, of 121 W. Simmons St., Galesburg, IL died at 1:53 PM Friday May 23, 2003 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born August 10, 1913 in Maquon, IL to William J. and Margie M. Teagarden Spilman. She married Harold A. Brown in Galesburg, IL on October 31, 1936. He preceded her in death August 1975.
Surviving is one daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Brown of Beardstown, IL, one brother, George D. Spilman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, two grandchildren, Mark Brown of Virginia, IL and Marcia Brown of Willowbrook, IL.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933. She worked in the dietary department at the State Research Hospital in Galesburg retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday May 27, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Shotwell officiating. Mrs. Barbara E. Watson, Galesburg Chapel

65, of 1041 Northwood Dr., Lake Bracken, Galesburg, IL died 11:00 PM Friday May 23, 2003 at her home.
She was born November 5, 1937 in Burlington, IA to Harold C. and Hana B. Morse McVey. She married Richard S. Watson in Galesburg in 1958. He survives.
Also surviving is one son, Dusti (and Julie) Watson of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Cindi E. (and Jamie) Scott of Greenwood, IN, two brothers, Harry (and Eiko) Morse McVey of Bellevue, WA and Ted Duane McVey of Midland, TX, two sisters, Cora Jeanne (and Ben) Eastman of Galesburg, IL and Elsie Louise (and Chuck) of Abingdon, IL, one grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She was a Spanish teacher for thirty years at several schools including Carl Sandburg College, Knoxville High School, ROWVA, Monmouth College and at Knox College. She retired in 1998. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1955. She graduated from Knox College with her BA in 1964 and received her Masters in 1967 from Wichita State. She was a member of the Lake Bracken County Club. She was on the Lake Bracken Ladies Golf League. She was a member of AATSP. She was a member of the Covenant Church. She was a substitute organist at several area churches.
Memorial services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday May 28, 2003 at Covenant Church with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday May 27, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Covenant Church, Carl Sandburg College or Knox College.

Mr. Forrest L. “Forrie” Sims, Sr., Galesburg Chapel

82, formerly of 121 W. Simmons St. Galesburg, IL died 4:15 PM Wednesday May 21, 2003 in Heartland Health Care Center.
He was born June 30, 1920 in Seaton, IL to Clarence S. and Alice M. Johnson Sims. He married Dorothy J. Lane in Kahoka, MO on December 20, 1941. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Forrest L. (and Renee Lester) Sims, Jr. of Galesburg, IL and Jerry L. (and Connie) Sims of New London, IA, one daughter, Joyce A. (and Terry) Sims Lufkin of San Angelo, TX, one sister, Maxine Miller of Heyworth, IL, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister and one granddaughter.
He worked for Gale Products OMC Electrical Lab for 41 ½ years, retiring in 1982. He lived in Galesburg most his life. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. He was a member of the Covenant Church where he was head usher for several years. He served in the US Air Force during World War II for 4 year in Burma.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday May 27, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Chapel.
