Mr. Roy Albert Louthan, Galesburg Chapel

85, Dixie, OK, formerly of Galesburg, died at 5:15 PM Monday, June 30, 2003 in Healdton Nursing Home, Healdton, OK.

He was born April 1, 1918 in Charleston, IL, the son of Walter Edward and Mallie Viola Ream Louthan. He married Nelle Elizabeth Oatman on January 8, 1940 in Kahoka, MO. She survives.

Also surviving are 2 sons, Earl Curry, Greenville, SC and Douglas Curry, Cameron, IL, 3 daughters, Elaine Rogers, Fredonia, AZ, Rosetta “Joyce” Brunson, Dixie, OK, and Debi Dreyer, Freeport, IL, a sister, Rosetta Lee, Carlyle, IA, 25 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Curry, a daughter, Marjorie Elizabeth Bowman, and 2 brothers.

He worked for Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for many years, retiring in 1981 with the position of assistant foreman. He had lived in Galesburg for many years and was a member of the First Church of God and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He moved to Oklahoma in 1998.

He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Graveside services will be 11 AM Saturday, July 5, 2003 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. The Rev. Edward DeWitt will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

Mrs. Pearl E. Blevins, Galesburg Chapel

78, of Bakersfield, CA, formerly of Galesburg, IL died at 8:45 PM Thursday June 27, 2002 at her home. She was born November 25, 1924 in Galesburg, IL to Fred W. and Clara Anna Rebecca Schultz Greene. She married Frank E. McDowell January 8, 1941 in Galesburg, IL. She later married Robert E. Blevins Nov. 24, 1973 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death February 5, 1983.
Surviving are 1 son – Clifford Wayne McDowell of Phoenix, AZ; 2 daughters – Carol Anne Cole of Bakersfield, CA and Dixie Lee Weller of Green Castle, VA; 1 brother – Harold Greene of Galesburg, IL; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters and 1 grandchild.
She was an assembler for Outboard Marine Corp. Gale Products Division in Galesburg, IL for over 20 years and retired in 1983. She was an avid golfer and bowler. She lived in Galesburg most of her life
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Sunday June 29, 2003 at Lincoln Park Gazebo in Galesburg, IL with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. There will be a potluck luncheon from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the park. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Margaret W. Scott, Abingdon Chapel

84, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon the past two years, died at 9:55 pm Sunday, June 29, 2003 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born November 26, 1918 in Poplar Plaines, Kentucky to William and Clara Hurst Jones. She married F. Eugene Scott on November 3, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1991.
Surviving are one daughter, Christine (and Larry) Lewis of Roscoe, IL; two sons, Donald (and Catherine) Scott of Springfield, IL and Jerry (and Francie) Scott of Lawrenceville, IL; one brother, Jack Jones of Hoffman Estates, IL; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Woody Jones.
She lived in the Abingdon area most of her life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1936.
She was a homemaker and was a volunteer for many years at the care center before she was a resident.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She was also a member of the Northend Club.
Services will be at 2:30 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service on Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to her church or the Care Center of Abingdon Activity Department.

Mrs. E. Louise Swanson Galesburg Chapel

age 89 of 967 Willard St. Galesburg, IL died Sunday June 29, 2003 at 2:50 AM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg, IL.

She was born May 27, 1914 in Wataga, IL, the daughter of Olof and Anna Hegstrom Olson. She married Max E. Swanson in Wataga, IL on June 22, 1939. He preceded her in death April 19, 2001.

She is survived by one son, Donald M. (and Barb) Swanson of Naperville, IL, three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Carol Anne) Smith of Macon, IL, Nancy L. Thumb and Barbara J. Swanson both of Galesburg, IL, one sister Marjorie Olson of Peoria, IL, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

She graduated from Sparta Township High School in Wataga in 1932, she attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, IA. She was a piano teacher and gave private lessons, was the member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, IL where she was the church organist for 18 years, the past president and district president of the Lutheran Church Women, member of the Knox County Home Extension, past president of the Galesburg Women’s Club, and the Oliver Wendell Holmes Club.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday July 3, 2003 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, IL with the Rev. Jill Vivroux officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:30-8 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel and Thursday from 9-10 AM at her church. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church or the Knox County Humane Society.

Mrs. Elsie R. Johnson, Galesburg Chapel

97, a resident of Seminary Manor, formerly of 1187 Dayton Dr., Galesburg, IL died at 7:40 PM Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Seminary Manor.
She was born April 20, 1906 in Galesburg, IL to Olaf F. and Maria Carlson Nelson. She married Fritz J. Johnson in 1955 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1976.
She is survived by 2 daughters-in-law: Virginia Johnson and Dona Hoopes, both of Galesburg, IL, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 stepsons: Leslie M. Johnson on October 5, 1996 and Roy V. “Bud” Johnson on April 17, 1991.
She was a private duty registered nurse, working at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and OSF St. Mary Medical Center. She was a graduate of Augustana Hospital School on Nursing in Chicago. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Galesburg.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday July 1, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Tuesday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Lillie M. Roberts, Galesburg Chapel

99, of New Bern, NC, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at 8:33 AM Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Britthaven of Pamlico Nursing Home, Alliance, NC.
She was born May 17, 1904 in Warren County, IL to John G. and Hilda Marie Carlson Miller. She married Harold M. Roberts on December 26, 1929 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She is survived by a daughter: Colleen (and Thomas) Hilgenberg, New Bern, NC, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son: Donald L. Roberts on September 1, 1996, 9 brothers, and 2 sisters.
She was a sales clerk in Galesburg, first working at the former N.P. Nelson Company, then the former Kellogg Drake and Company, and finally for 17 years at the former Skrivan’s Gift Shop. She retired in 1973. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Galesburg and its Miriam Guild.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday June 30, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Monday at the chapel. Mrs. Cora Lee Tune, Galesburg Chapel

68, of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of 372 W. North St., Galesburg, IL, died at 9:40 AM Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg.
She was born May 21, 1935 in Kilgore, TX, to Commie Norman and Lula Louise Barnett Castleberry. She married Victor Tune, Jr. on July 11, 1955 in Midland, TX. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1989.
She is survived by 2 sons: Victor III (and Denise) Tune, Galesburg and James A. (and Dawn) Tune, Fredericksburg, VA, a daughter: Lisa (and Jack) Angelo, Moline, IL, 3 brothers: Franklin Castleberry, Midland, TX and Martin D. Castleberry and Joe Castleberry, both of Fort Worth, TX, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
She was a homemaker who was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Galesburg. She also was a volunteer at the Salvation Army Store in Galesburg.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 2, 2003 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rick Shriber officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the burn unit at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Helen I. McLaren, Galesburg Chapel

87, of 184 Bandy Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 10:45 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born November 1, 1915 in Paloma, IL, the daughter of John Harvey Sr. and Lillian Edna Noll McCune. She married John R. McLaren on May 2, 1936 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1991.
She is survived by a daughter: H. Christine Hamilton, Galesburg, 2 brothers: John Harvey Jr. (and Tina) McCune, Rancho Cordova, CA and W. Thomas (and Nancy) McCune, Galesburg, 3 sisters: Ruth (and Harold) Martin, Phoenix, AZ, Edith (and Ralph “Bud”) Ecklund, Galesburg, and Dorothy Rodgers, Watsonville, CA, 2 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.
She worked for the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 25 years, working 10 years as an assembler and 15 years in the pre-packing parts depot. She retired in 1977. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Galesburg. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School.

Mrs. Vivian A. Long, Galesburg Chapel

73, of Galesburg, IL died at 7:30 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born March 22, 1930 in Forest Park, GA, the daughter of Walter and Nellie Bankston Clark. She married Glenn H. Long on August 2, 1952 in LaHarpe, IL. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2002.
She is survived by a son: Michael (and Banyen “Poo”) Long, Phoenix, AZ, 2 daughters: Carol (and Dennis) Rankin, Roseville, IL and Lori Long, Carrollton, TX, 3 grandsons, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.
She was a bookkeeper at the former Roddefer’s Department Store in Galesburg. She then worked as an assembler at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 11 years, retiring in 1981. She worked for 13 years for the Neiman-Marcus Distribution Center in Carrollton, TX, retiring in 1994. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Forest Park, GA.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday July 1, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Monday June 30, 2003 at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Inter Community Cancer Center of Western Illinois, Galesburg or to the family.

Mr. Calvin P. Clark, Galesburg Chapel

78, 2976 US Hwy 150N, Alpha, IL, died at 7:00 AM Monday, June 23, 2003 at home.
He was born January 19, 1925 in Bethany, MO, the son of Lester and Bessie Spoonemore Clark. He married Josephine O’Hare on February 2, 1963 in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 3, 1997.
Surviving are 2 sons: Brian (and Patsy) Clark, Lake, Michigan and Jeff Clark, in Florida, a daughter: Gerry (and Jim) Scherer, New Bern, NC, 2 sisters: Leona Flack, Galesburg and Nina Tweed, Travelers Rest, SC, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
He was a natural gas technician for the Michigan and Wisconsin Pipeline for 30 years. He retired in 1983. He attended Little York High School. He had lived in the Galesburg area most of his life. He served in the US Navy for 28 months, stationed on the USS Rhineheart. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
