80, of 1618 Indiana Dr., Galesburg, IL died 8:20 AM Tuesday, October 28, 2003 in Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
He was born May 16, 1923 in Galesburg, IL to John Wesley and Emma Vance Simmons. He married Mary Louise Guenther in Galesburg, IL on June 30, 1951. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Lorie Simmons of Galesburg, IL, two granddaughters and a great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
He worked at OMC Gale Products as a Boiler Fireman for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during World War II.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Friday, October 31, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday October 30, 2003 at the Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.

97, of 2345 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, IL died 3:15 AM Monday, October 27, 2003 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on April 15, 1906 in Canton, IL to Myron and Bertha Mae Pollitt Beckstead. She married John Harold Owen in Rock Island, IL on October 10, 1934. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1974.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She worked as an anesthetist at Cottage Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center. She later owned and operated Knox Realty with her husband for twenty years until her retirement. She was a 1932 graduate from Ramsey School of Anesthesia.
Private funeral services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born April 19, 1921 in Galesburg, IL to David A. and Esther C. Swanson Brown. He married Sharon L. Murray on June 28, 1947 in Galesburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Steven (and Nancy) Brown of Galesburg, IL, Richard (and Tammie) Brown of Dahinda, IL and Jim (and Lola) Brown of Princeton, IL, a daughter, Lelica (and Gordon) Carlson of Galesburg, IL, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Brown, in 1953.
He worked as a Maintenance Foreman at OMC-Gale Products for thirty years, retiring in 1975. He lived in Galesburg his entire life. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. He was a member of the VFW #2257, CBIVA and Military Order of the Cooties. He served as a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts of America from 1965-1976. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He served in the famous US Air Force “Flying Tigers” squadron as staff sergeant during World War II in China, Burma, and India.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 31, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Chapel. Rosary services will be recited at 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials can be made to the Costa Catholic School.

63, of RR London Mills died at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 25, 2003, at his home.
He was born on June 1, 1940 in Durham Township, Hancock County near LaHarpe, IL to Virgil and Ethel Buhl Boone. He married Jan Meadows on October 24, 1958 in Abingdon. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Danny (and Patty) Boone of RR Abingdon; two daughters, Kathy (and James) Ball of Kewanee and Tracey Roberts-Alvarezof Malta, IL; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; two brothers, Terry (and LeAnn) Boone of Wataga and Jerry (and Jenny) Boone of Louisa, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Boone.
He grew up in the LaHarpe and Roseville areas. His family moved to Abingdon in 1957. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1958. He had lived At RR London Mills the past 32 years.
He was a retired electrician, having worked at the former Briggs Mfg. Company, Schisler Companies and was later self employed as Boone’s Electric.
He was a member of the former London Mills Masonic Lodge and was a former member of the Abingdon Auxillary Police Department.
He was baptized in the Methodist and Christian Churches in Roseville.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at the chapel.

77, of 140 W. First St., Galesburg, IL, died at 7:22 PM Friday October 24, 2003 at her home.
She was born on January 30, 1926 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Sydney and LaBlanche Ayers Finley, Sr. She married Cecil Bruce Ford in 1947 in Peoria.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Finley Ford of Encino, CA, three daughters, Lois Ann Hall of Sherman Oaks, CA, Candy Webb and Cyd Janine (and Randy) Pelotte, both of Galesburg, IL, a sister, Dorothy Newman of Las Vegas, NV and five grandchildren. A son, Bruce Ford, and two brothers preceded her in death.
She taught English at Galesburg High School and Lombard Junior High for 18 years, retiring June 1, 1991. She also taught in Long Island, NY prior to her return to Galesburg.
She was a 1943 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1947 graduate of Knox College. She was a very active member of the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg, where she belonged to the Sarah Martha Circle and Benevolence Committee. She was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), was a former president of the Galesburg Education Association, former chairperson of the City of Galesburg’s Youth Commission, and a board member of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Harrington Family Services Foundation. She was a volunteer for several other organizations in Galesburg.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, at the chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

91, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 5:28 pm Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
He was born July 3, 1912 in Alexis, IL to Fred E. and Ethel E. Lund Johnson. He married Mabel Gwendolyn Pawley in 1938 in Clinton, IA. She preceded him in death in 1979. He later married Ada Murk Allen in 1980 in Stewartsville, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sharon Lynn (and James) Downey of Plattsburg, MO; one son Mark Stanley (and Barbara) Johnson of Abingdon; 2 grandchildren; one stepson, Gerry (and Margie) Allen of RR Abingdon; three stepdaughters, Judy (and Charles) Malley of RR Galesburg, Ginger (and Richard) Mason of Avon and Jane (and Terry) Bradshaw of RR St. Augustine; 11 step grandchildren; 1 step great-grandchild; two brothers, Dale E. Johnson of Seattle, WA and Wendell O. Johnson of Galesburg; one Sister, Phyllis Kaletsch of Long Beach, MS.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Karon Johnson, two Brothers and one Sister.
He grew up in the Alexis area on the family farm and later farmed in the Rio and Abingdon areas until retiring in 1978. He had lived in Galesburg the past two years.
He was a past member of the Knox County Farm Bureau.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 am Saturday at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg with Eleanor Landon officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon.

He was born April 8, 1921 in Galesburg, the son of Emil and Anna Holstedt Johnson. He married G. Maxine Craig on September 4, 1947 in Rock Island, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Craig L. (and Lori) Johnson, Peoria, IL and Gary L. (and Debbie) Johnson, Galesburg, 2 granddaughters, Ashley and Jordan Johnson, and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was a mechanic at Weaver-Yemm Chevrolet in Galesburg and then was the service manager at Shottenkirk Auto in Abingdon. He last worked in maintenance at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, retiring in 1982.
He attended Oneida schools and lived most of his life in Galesburg. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and VFW Post 2257, both in Galesburg.
He was a WW II Army veteran, stationed in Europe.
Graveside services will be 3 PM Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Heather will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was born December 18, 1931, in Chicago, IL to George E. and Agnes M. Shaw Welch. He married Deloris Ottum on September 20, 1958, in Fort Still, OK. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David C. (and Jane) Welch of Topeka, KS and Brian S. (and Amy) Welch of Springfield, IL; three daughters, Teresa Phillipson and Lori Welch, both of Galesburg, IL and Tana J. (and Dean) Espenschied of Monticello, IL; three sisters, Pat (and Bill) Addis of Galesburg, IL, Mary (and Frank) Abrams of Moore Haven, FL and Jean (and Francis) Mears of Alva, FL and eight grandchildren.
He was a career military sergeant first class in the Army, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving a Bronze Star. He later worked at Gunther Construction Company for 22 years, retiring in 1992. He attended Corpus Christi School. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2257 and a former member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 22, 2003 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Thomas Ek officiating. He was born August 24, 1934 in Kewanee, IL, the son of Everett and Helen Ouart Kirman. He married Jo Ann Lantz McLaughlin on July 20, 1971 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Chuck (and Deb) McLaughlin, Alpha, IL, 4 daughters, Marcia (and Randy) Cowser, Carterville, IL, Janice (and Steve) Edmund, Rock Falls, IL, Beverly (and Jeff) Brown, Vincennes, IN, and Darcy (and Scott) Swigart, Missouri Valley, Iowa, 2 brothers, Jerry (and Bonnie) Kirman, Peoria and Richard Kirman, Chillicothe, IL, and f10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.
He worked as a realtor for Tucker Swanson Real Estate, a salesman for Paintcraft, and was currently a salesman for Wilson Paper Company in Galesburg.
He graduated from Wethersfield High School in Kewanee in 1952. He attended Western Illinois University from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club and had previously served as a board member. He was a former member of the Galesburg Jaycees, served as its president from 1965 to 1966, and held several state offices. He was a former member of the AMBUCS and the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the Elks Lodge 894. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed in Huachuca, AZ.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 AM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Heather will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Thursday at the chapel.
