Mr. June Schafer, Galesburg Chapel

94, of 4519 E. 82nd St., Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at 9:50 PM Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Manor Care at Summer Trace, Carmel, IN.
He was born on June 28, 1909 in Carlinville, IL to Herman and Mary Ann Caffrey Schafer. He married Lillian B. Denniston in Roodhouse, IL on January 26, 1928. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters; Judy Eiker of Indianapolis, IN and Joyce Ziemek of Rolling Meadows, IL, a son, Robert J. (and Genevieve) Schafer of Tucson, AZ, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A sister, Rose Downs, preceded him in death.
He worked at Rowe Manufacturing Co. in Galesburg for 34 years, retiring in 1974.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2004 at Leppert & Hensley Mortuary Nora Chapel in Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the Mortuary.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Heartland Hospice Service, 931 E. 86th St, Suite 208, Indianapolis, IN 46240.

Mrs. Katherine Hope Branson, Galesburg Chapel

74, 1608 Rock Island Ave., Galesburg, died at 5:22 AM Monday, January 26, 2004 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born April 16, 1929 in London Mills, IL, the daughter of Perry and Catherine Hill Crouch. She married Wayne Branson, Sr.. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by 3 sons, Wayne Jr. (and Sandy) Branson in Arkansas, Paul “Pee Wee” Branson, Belvidere, IL, and George Branson, Seguin, TX, 2 daughters, Cindy Morris and Helen “Toots” Branson, both of Galesburg, 5 brothers, Albert Crouch, Robert Crouch, and Damon Crouch, all of Galesburg, Wendell Crouch in Texas, and Lester Crouch in Tennessee, 4 sisters, Lois Hamilton and Connie Keener, both of Galesburg, Charity McDonald in Florida, and Faith Thornhill in Texas, 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, and one sister.
She was an assembler as Admiral Corporation for 25 ½ years, retiring May 1, 1992. She was a member of the Salvation Army.
Funeral will be 11 AM Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Captain Rick Ray will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family.

Marshall R. Denisar, Galesburg Chapel

of 1660 245th Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 5:40 AM Saturday, January 24, 2004 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria IL.
He was born January 24, 2004 in Peoria, IL to David R. and Christine McCombs Denisar.
He is survived by his parents, one brother, Benjamin Durdle and two sisters; Veronica and Keeley Denisar, all at home, his grandmother, Evelyn Wilson of Galesburg, IL, grandfather, Wendell McComb of LaHarpe, IL, grandparents, Rosalie and Kenneth Kempter of Macomb, IL, several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Elah Vivian Mentzer, Galesburg Chapel

83, of 1241 Parkview Circle, Galesburg, IL died at 3:25 PM Monday, January 26, 2004 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born February 10, 1920 in Crawfordsville, IN to James and Henrietta Smith Rice. She married John Leo “Jack” Mentzer in Chicago, IL on February 14, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She is survived by three sons; John Jr. (and Jane) Mentzer of Northbrook, IL, Richard (and Joyce) Mentzer and Thomas Mentzer, both of Denver, CO, four daughters; Pamela Benesch of Arlington Heights, IL, Nancy (and Mark) Gersdorf of Northbrook, IL, Joanne (and Andrew) Morris of Denver, CO, and Catherine (and Frank) Quarels of Panama City, FL, fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
She was an office manager for Rex Pederson Company in Elk Grove Village, IL for 25 years. She has lived in Galesburg since 1988. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1938.She was a member of the Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg IL. She was a member of the OSF St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player and table tennis champion. Her sunny disposition and cheery smile were known to many.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Corpus Christi Church with Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2004 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Prayers will be said at 6:30 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Mrs. Marian I. Bryant, Galesburg Chapel

79, of 68 Olive St., Galesburg, IL died at 12:15 AM Sunday, January 25, 2004 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born January 25, 1925 in Morrison, IL to Bert and Iva Larkey Baker. She married William K. Bryant on April 5, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters; Terri (and Rondal) Hazen and Susie (and John) Edwards, both of Galesburg, IL, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jeffrey Allen Bryant.
She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Galesburg High School and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg and the Oneida American Legion Auxiliary Post #727.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Brian Sexton officiating. Mr. Clifford E. Kalb, Galesburg Chapel

86, of 1196 Pine Tree Lane, Galesburg, IL died at 1:55 AM Monday, January 26, 2004 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born April 19, 1917 in Abingdon, IL to Edward and Gertrude Emery Kalb. He married Shirley A. Dallefeld in Galesburg, IL on October 23, 1948. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters; Jean Ann (and Jim) Gillenwater and Patricia Kay Hebard, both of Galesburg, IL., one sister, Dorothy Koelling of Largo, FL and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He worked as a driver for the Burlington Truck Lines for 20 years retiring in 1974. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1935. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1945 as Staff Sargeant.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Mr. Karl K. Kaminski, Galesburg Chapel

54, 266 Silver St. Galesburg, IL died at 2:45 AM Friday, January 23, 2004 at his home.
He was born October 27, 1949 in Warren County Illinois to Christopher and Dorothy Lindstrom Kaminski. He first married Vicki Richardson in 1973 and later married Mary Parks in August 1984.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Wasson of Monmouth, IL, a grandmother, Grace Sexton of Roseville, IL, one son, Kyle K. Kaminski of Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Kristy (and Toby) Ladendorf of Galesburg, IL, two brothers; Don Kaminski of Danville, NH and Paul (and Theresa) Wasson of Waukegan, IL, one sister, Sue (and Steve) Ross of Biggsville, IL and a special friend whom cared for him, Pamila Taylor of Galesburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Christopher Kaminski, and his step father who raised him, Dale Wasson.
He was a 1967 graduate of Warren High School and attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL He worked for Maytag Corp. for 35 years, retiring in January 2002. He was a member of I.A.M. Local 2063. He served in the US Army in Viet-Nam from 1969-1972.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Muck officiating. Mr. William “Ray” Dunn, Galesburg Chapel

91, of 840 S. Farnham St., Galesburg, IL died at 8:17 PM Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, IL.
He was born on October 31, 1912 in Farmington, IL to Shellby and Emma Glasock Dunn. He married Helen Young on August 7, 1955 in Coldbrook, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons; Clifford (and Mary) Dunn, Steve (and Jean) Dunn and Rex Dunn, all of Oquawka, IL; a sister-in-law; Louise Dunn of Galesburg, IL; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He was a teacher in Astoria, IL, Biggsville, IL and Galesburg, IL for 40 years, retiring in 1975. He was the first administrator of the Galesburg area vocational school. He was a 1938 Farmington High graduate and received his BS and MS degrees from University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign. He was a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church, the Galesburg Kiwanis Club, A. Lincoln Lodge in Galesburg, IL and was past state president of Illinois vocational agriculture teachers.

Mrs. V. Kay Johanson, Galesburg Chapel

64, of 5893 Lynmar Dr., Burlington, IA, formerly of Galesburg, IL died at 2:35 AM Friday, January 23, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
She was born December 9, 1939 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of John D. and Frances A. Anderson Charlson. She first married Albert J. Williams, Sr. in Macomb, IL in 1958 and later John M. Johanson in Galesburg, IL on January 12, 1969.
She is survived by her husband, John of Burlington, IA, one son, Albert (and Sherry) Williams, Jr. of Louisburg, NC, two daughters; Jacqueline (and Lawrence) Williams-Yee of Burlington, IA and Jennifer (and Robert) Johanson-Williams of Niles, MI, three sisters; Janice (and Eric) Johnson of Peoria, IL, Patsy (and Larry) Smith of Galesburg, IL and Bonnie (and David) Demick of Lampe, MO and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Marie Williams, and one brother, John Thomas Charlson.
She was a 1957 graduate of Galesburg High School. She worked at the Galesburg State Research Hospital and was a clerk at the Kewanee Kroger Food Store. She was a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers Union, the Kewanee Lioness Club, AFS and a room mother both in Galesburg and Kewanee.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, January 26, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with Rev. Paul Johnson and Rev. Jon Sibley officiating. Mrs. Mildred Louise Lewis, Abingdon Chapel

86 of 498 W. Brooks St., Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died at 8:43 am Friday, January 23, 2004 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on February 17, 1917 in Lexington, KY to Levi and Mayme Hurd Rowlett. She married Wendell E. Lewis on October 31, 1954 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1986.
Surviving are three sons, Don (and Kay) Kinyon of Galesburg, Jack (and Linda Cook) Varnold of Galesburg, Gilbert (and Linda) Lewis of Maquon; three daughters, Linda (and Larry) Schreffler, Joy (and Richard) Morris and Wendy Poland all of Galesburg; one brother, Roy (and Sonna) Rowlett of Hamilton, IL; two sisters, Jean Rowlett of Hamilton and Helen Mary Harvey of Keokuk, IA; 18 grandchildren including a granddaughter, Kim Pringle who was raised by Mrs. Lewis, 18 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sons, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and five brothers.
She operated the former Maid-Rite restaurant in Abingdon for 10 years, worked at the former Lakeview Roller Rink in Galesburg for 5 years, worked at the former Travel Lodge and retired from the Howard Johnson Hotel in Galesburg where she was head of Housekeeping.
She was a past member of the Abingdon Auxiliary Police Department from 1970-1986. She was member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary in Abingdon.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday at the chapel
