Mr. Ernest R. Horton, Galesburg Chapel

90, of East Galesburg, IL died at 1 PM Wednesday February 25, 2004 at his home.
He was born August 20, 1913 in Bardolph, IL, the son of Clarence and Thressie Radenbaugh Horton. He married Marian Jacobson on March 7, 1936 in Galesburg, IL. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1980.
Survivors include three brothers, Neal, Stanley, and Delbert Horton all of Galesburg, IL and one sister Lois Payton of Galesburg, IL.
He served in the Army Air Corp for two years and eight months.
He worked at the Galesburg Coca Cola Bottling Company for over 50 years, retiring in 1975. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1931. He lived in Galesburg and East Galesburg all of his life.
He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
He was a member of the East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.

Mr. Harold T. Peterson, Galesburg Chapel

90, formerly of Orion and Rock Island, IL died at 5:25 AM Wednesday February 25, 2004 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born April 25, 1913 in Osco, IL the son of Elof G. and Anna O. Erickson Peterson. He married Virginia L. Anderson on September 3, 1937 in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death June 19, 2002.
Surviving are 1 son, Lamont (and Diane) Peterson of Las Vegas, NV; 1 daughter, Laura Mikkelson of Quincy, IL; 7 grandchildren, David (and Deanna) Ollman of Galesburg, IL, Aaron, Leigh and Ryan Peterson of Henderson, NV, Ron (and Cindy) Peterson of Kenosha, WI, Jennifer (and Andrew) Webster of Ladera Ranch, CA, and Kara Mikkelson of Centennial, CO and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Ronald and a brother.
He was reared in rural Osco, IL and graduated from Orion High School in 1930. He attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, and Augustana College, Rock Island, IL.
He farmed for many years in the Osco and Orion, IL areas in addition to working as a federally registered meat inspector and State of Illinois registered sanitarian. After retirement in 1977, he co-managed, with his wife, the Fieldcrest housing units in Orion and Cambridge, IL. After retiring a second time in 1984, he moved, with his wife, to Friendship Manor, Rock Island, IL.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Orion where he served as a board member, and First Lutheran Church of Rock Island. He served on the Lutheran Cemetery Association board in Orion and held various offices in Golden K Kiwanis in Rock Island, IL.
He enjoyed baking, bowling, woodworking, furniture restoration and home remodeling.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday February 28, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Gregory Mayer officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Orion, IL.

Mrs. Thelma M. Wilson, Galesburg Chapel

92, of 914 S. Cedar St. Galesburg IL died 2:04 AM Sunday February 22, 2004 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born April 11, 1911 in Mason KY the daughter of John W. and Eliza McCormick Morris. She married Ellis Morgan in Williamstown KY December 19, 1928 (divorced). She later married John R. Wilson in Mason KY on October 22, 1938. He preceded in death on May 28, 1973.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law Mrs. Donald (Alice) Wilson of Galesburg IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, three brothers and two sisters.
She worked for the former Higgins Sealtest for eight years and the former Northside Bakery for six years. She lived in Galesburg since 1939. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galesburg IL.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Siems. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery Henderson IL. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church-Galesburg IL.

Mr. Melvin Carl Neumann, Galesburg Chapel

68, 2277 US Hwy 150N, Wataga, IL, died at 6:34 PM Saturday, February 21, 2004 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born November 28, 1935 in Springfield, IL, the son of Ben and Frieda Profrock Neumann. He married Joann Schaddel on June 29, 1963 in Petersburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Frieda Neumann, Petersburg, IL, a son, Bruce (and Lisa) Neumann, Elburn, IL, a daughter, Kathleen Neumann (and Martin) Maskarinec, Good Hope, IL, a sister, Shirley (and Bob) Garvin, Petersburg, IL, and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Donald Neumann.
He was the Executive Director of the Knox County Farm Service Agency, formerly the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) for over 36 years. Prior to moving the the Galesburg area in 1967, he was the Executive Director of the Carroll County ASCS office for 5 years. He had been a Country Companies Insurance Agent prior to working for the Farm Service Agency. He also gave a weekly radio report of WGIL in Galesburg regarding ASCS programs for several years.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, where he had served as an elder, head elder, served on the church council, chaired the quarterly voter meetings, and lead an adult Bible class on Sunday mornings.
He served in the United States Army with an artillery unit stationed in Germany. He also played the trombone in the United States Army Band. He graduated from the former Petersburg Harris High School in 1953 and attended the University of Illinois and Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
He was a member of the Illinois Association of County FSA/ASCS Office Employees and has served as director or alternate director since 1964. He was a member of Illinois Association of Farmer Elected Committeemen (IAFEC) since its inception in 1965. He was a member of the Knox County and Illinois Corn Grower’s Associations, Knox County and National Cattleman’s Associations, Knox County CROP, Galesburg Cosmopolitan’s Civic Club, Galesburg Jaycee’s, and Galesburg Sunrise Rotary Club, who he recently received the Paul Harris Service Award from.
Funeral will be 2 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2004 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Petersburg, IL, where visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM. The Rev. Robert Lowe will officiate. Visitation will be 5:30 to 8 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2004 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel followed by a prayer service at 8 PM conducted by Rev. Daniel Smith. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Petersburg, IL. Memorials can be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Galesburg, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Petersburg, IL, or the American Heart Association.

Mr. Earl J (Jack) Frambes, Galesburg Chapel

75, Arlington, VA, formerly of Galesburg IL died February 4, 2004 at 1:00 PM in Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington VA.
He was born March 11, 1928 in Knoxville IL the son of Raymond and Rhonda Fuller Frambes. He is survived by his former wife Marie-Agnes Frambes of Dunn Loring VA, one son Steven Frambes of San Francisco CA, one brother John (wife Doloris) Frambes of Orland Park IL, two sisters Rhoda (husband Bruce) Cherrington of Galesburg IL and Phyllis Whiteside of Knoxville IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He served in the Army Air Corps. He worked as an auditor and an accountant for various government agencies, with the majority of his career in the Naval Audit Services. He retired from government service (Information Agency) in 1979. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. He graduated from George Washington University. He was a member of the Arlington American Legion.
Graveside services will be at 12:30 PM Tuesday February 24, 2004 in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA.

Mr. Gary R. Wiley, Abingdon Chapel

67 of RR Abingdon, died at 5:25 am Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on February 20, 1936 in Louisa County, Iowa to Harvey and Esther Wiley. He married Betty Blair on December 12, 1959 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lynn Jones of Abingdon; one son, Scott Wiley of Abingdon; six grandchildren; two brothers, Tobe Wiley of Wapello, IA and Richard Wiley of Muscatine, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He graduated from Morning Sun, Iowa High School and attended Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
He played professional baseball pitcher with the New York Yankee organization and later served as a scout.
He worked at the former Rowe Mfg. in Galesburg for ten years and later became the manager of the heating and air conditioning division of May Company in Galesburg.
He managed the Galesburg Merchants baseball team, coached little league baseball in Abingdon for several years.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Sunday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the family or the Christian Children’s Fund.

Mrs. Thelma I. Mitchell, Galesburg Chapel

Mrs. Thelma I. Mitchell age 90 pf 687 Olive St. Galesburg, Il. died Friday February 20, 2004 at 6:00 AM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg, Il.

She was born January 30, 1914 in Gilson, Il. the daughter of Ernest and Lydia Burnaugh Reynolds. She married Lawrence Mitchell June 20, 1931 in Scott County, Ia.

She is survived by one son Richard G. Mitchell-Galesburg, Il., two sisters Fern Olson-Denver, Co. and Ruby Martin-Galesburg, Il. two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Larry Mitchell, and six sisters.

She worked for Gale Products for 33 years retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and Machinists Retirees Club in which she founded and remained active for 13 years.

Graveside services will be 10 AM Monday February 23, 2004 at Gilson Cemetery Gilson, Il. with Rev. Marilyn Anell officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Nita M. Rhykerd McGowan, Galesburg Chapel

93, of 550 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. Galesburg IL died 12:25 AM Thursday February 19, 2004 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center Galesburg IL.
She was born March 12, 1910 in rural Cameron IL the daughter of Alton W. and Edna O. Yarde Rhykerd. She married Julian E. McGowan in Cameron IL on January 16, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2003.
She is survived by two nephews Glenn (wife Judy) Stevens of Altona, IL and Jon (wife Karen) Stevens of Altona IL, one niece Norma Jean (husband Arthur) Wolford of Abingdon IL, several great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister Lucile Milward.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the Intrastate Telephone Company for over 35 years. She attended grade school at the Hedgepath Country School in Cameron IL. She graduated from Galesburg High School. She attended Browns Business College.
She was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolutionary). She volunteered with her husband transporting blood for the American Red Cross.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she worked in the Church Library and a member of the Women’s Circle.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM Monday February 23, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Mark Wolford officiating. Visitation will be 10:30-11:00 AM Monday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Mr. Marvin “Steve” Hutchings, Galesburg Chapel

54 of 1772 Rock Island Ave., Galesburg, IL, formerly of 847 NW Highlands Loop of Lake City, FL, died at 9:20 AM Monday February 16, 2004 at his home.
He was born August 4, 1949 in Galesburg, IL to Marvin C. and Shirley G. Berry Hutchings. His mother Shirley G. Hutchings of Galesburg survives.
Also surviving are two brothers; Leroy (and Vickie) Hutchings of Galesburg, IL and Jimmy Hutchings of Moore, TX, one sister, Vicki Hutchings-Garza of Galesburg, IL, one nephew, one great nephew, five nieces and four great nieces survive. He was preceded in death by his father in 1995 and one niece, Serenity A. Garza in 2003.
He first worked at Eagles Food in Galesburg, IL for 13 years. He then worked for the City of Galesburg Park District for 3 years. He then worked as a mechanic for Roundtree Moore Ford in Lake City, FL for 7 years and the last 3 years he worked as a mechanic for Baya Auto in Lake City, FL. He was born and raised in Galesburg IL and has lived in Lake City FL for the last 11 years. He was a 1967 graduate of Galesburg High School. He graduated from Carl Sandburg College and Lake City (FL) Community College studying auto mechanic. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. He was a former member of the Covenant Church in Galesburg, IL. He was a member of the Veteran Chapel in Lake City, FL. He served in the US Army from 1971-1974 in Germany.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rick Shriber officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 20, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mrs. Ruth Marks, Abingdon Chapel

86, formerly of 607 W. Jackson St., died at 3:45 pm Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on February 22, 1917 in Marietta, IL to Don L. and Pearl Maul Morey. She married Lewis G. Marks on September 2, 1939 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1964.
Surviving are two daughters, Sally Cramer of Abingdon and Nancy (and Bruce) Mueller of Talbott, TN; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; three nephews and one niece.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jane Glover and one sister
She graduated from Cuba High School in 1935 and later graduated as an LPN from Carl Sandburg College in 1971. She had worked as an LPN at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She had lived in Abingdon most of her adult life.
She was member of the Abingdon United Methodist church since 1942.
She was a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a past worthy matron.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon in charge of arrangements.
