Mrs. Helen M. Baratta, Galesburg Chapel

84, 440 S. Whitesboro St., Galesburg, died at 6:20 PM, Tuesday, November 23, 2004 in Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born May 3, 1920 in Galesburg, the daughter of Harry C. and Mary Jane Smith Mattocks. She married Joseph Baratta on May 13, 1950 in Kankakee, IL. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1974.
She is survived by a sister, Julia Mattocks, Galesburg, a niece, Jane (and Dale) Cayot, Lebanon, Ohio, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
She was a seamstress at Gross Galesburg for many years before retiring. She also was a riveter and assembler on the B-17 and Flying Fortress in Burbank, CA for 2 years during WWII. She and her husband were the owner/operators of the Elm Grove Motel in Lincoln, IL for 3 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938. She was a member of the Non Pariel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and also the White Shrine, both in Galesburg.
Funeral will be 2 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Stephen Bibb will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Humane Society.

Mr. Timothy R. Bern, Galesburg Chapel

29, of 955 E. Brooks St. Galesburg, IL died at 3:20 PM Friday, November 26, 2004 at is home.
He was born April 11, 1975 in Galesburg, IL the son of Bill G. and Kristine L. Reed Bern. He married Elizabeth R. Ripka in Ina, IL.
He is survived by his parents, Bill & Shirley Bern of Knoxville, IL and Richard & Kristine McGill of Galesburg, IL, grandmother, Dorothy Reed of Toulon, IL, grandfather Robert Bern of Galesburg, IL, two daughters; Chalen Laine Bern and Callie Leryn Bern both at home, one brother, Robert Eric Bern of Galesburg, IL, five step sisters; Shannon & Ashley Bledsoe, Joy Salsman, Carrie Armstrong, and Molly McGill and two step brothers; Austin and Brett McGill, all of Knoxville, IL.
He attended Galesburg High School and Rend Lake Community College in Ina, IL receiving his Certificate in Auto Mechanics. He worked for I.B.D. Joshin and later Galesburg Castings. He attended Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 29, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mr. Robert L. Evans, Galesburg Chapel

82, of 1302 Clark St., Galesburg died at 9:03 AM Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on September 6, 1922 in Cuba, IL to Jack J. and Clio I. Dunavain Evans. He married Eleanor E. Brooker in Galesburg, IL on November 26, 1952. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Mark R. Evans of Naperville, IL, a daughter, Laurie A. (and David) Pearson of Galesburg, a brother, James H. (and Carolyn) Evans of Champaign, IL and two granddaughters, Erin E. Pearson and Lauryn E. Pearson, both of Galesburg.
He worked at the OMC Accessory Division of Gale Products in Galesburg and Beloit, WI for 32 years, retiring in 1979 from the Beloit Division.
He served in World War II in the European Theatre from 1940 to 1946. During that time he was stationed in Africa, Scotland, Sicily, Italy, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Newfoundland, Iceland, Guantanamo Bay, Brazil, and Marseilles. He took part in the Allied invasion of Africa and France serving on the battleship USS New York and PC Boats #564 (in Brazil) and #1169 (in France.) He then served in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1951.
He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and the Dew Dusters Golf League.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at 1985 Cornelia Road from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2004. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg High School Athletic Booster Club or the Galesburg High School Girls’ Basketball Program.

Mr. John D. Nadherny, Abingdon Chapel

69 of 604 N. Washington St. died at 4:45 pm Sunday, November 28, 2004 at his home.
He was born on August 8, 1935 in Oak Park to Emil and Lillian Pecina Nadherny.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are a friend Alice Philbee of Abingdon, with whom he lived with; two sisters, Vera (and Milton) Hanzlik of LaGrange Park, IL and Jean (and Robert) Giesow of Beverly Hills, FL, nieces and nephews.
He was an Army veteran.
He attended the Morton Junior College in Cicero and the Art Center School in Los Angeles, CA where he received his BPA with a major degree in Transportation Design and a minor degree in Product Design. He worked as an industrial designer for the Space General Corporation in Glendale, CA, US Army White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Sunbeam Corp. in Cicero, Knapp Design Associates in River Forest, IL, Charles Bruning Company in Mt. Prospect, IL, the Perkins-Elmer Corp. Coleman Instruments Division in Oak Brook, IL, Admiral Corp. in Galesburg and for Jona Design in Carol Stream and Galesburg, IL.
He had lived in the Galesburg and Abingdon areas the past eleven years.
Cremation will be accorded. At his request no services are planned.

Mr. Norman H. Weaver, Galesburg Chapel

90, 914 Brown Ave., Galesburg, died at 4:35 PM Monday, November 22, 2004 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1914 in Galesburg, the son of Harry and Grace Allen Weaver. He married Ethel Lauerman on August 4, 1940. She preceded him in death on September 11, 1999.
He is survived by 2 sons, Jerry Weaver and Dean (and Donna) Weaver, both in Denver, CO, 2 daughters, Ann (and Thad) McDonald, Denver, CO and Bonnie (and Eric) Rutledge, Dallas, TX, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
He had been the owner of the Chrysler Auto Agency, International Truck, Galesburg Bus Company, and the School Bus and Truck Safety Inspection Station, all in Galesburg. He also taught school bus driver training for the State of Illinois.
He graduated from Wataga High School and Brown’s Business College. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg, where he was a former board trustee. He was a former member of Knox County YMCA board and the American Red Cross board. He was the former Vice President of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Safety Council in Springfield and had been a former member and treasurer of the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Scott Grulke will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 PM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Florence M. Carlson, Galesburg Chapel

87, Redlands, CA, formerly of Galesburg, died at 1:30 AM Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at home.
She was born March 7, 1917 in Oskarshamn, Sweden, the daughter of Carl and Augusta Lamberg Lithander. She married C. Leonard Carlson on April 2, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1985.
She is survived by a son, Steve (and Sandy Abplanalp) Carlson, Madison, WI, a daughter, Brenda (and Gerald) Bean, Redlands, CA, a brother, Dale (and Margaret) Lithander, Galesburg, 4 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and one sister.
She was a secretary for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service in Galesburg for 27 years. She retired September 8, 1978. She had lived in Galesburg most of her life and in California since July of 2000. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1934 and Brown’s Business College in 1936. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Galesburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Christiana Guild. She attended the First Lutheran Church in Redlands, CA, where she was a member of the Dora Ott Guild and the Quilter’s Circle. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a member of the Svithoid Lodge and O.A.K.S. of Galesburg.
Funeral will be 10 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church of Galesburg or First Lutheran Church of Redlands, CA.

Mr. Scott D. Glisan, Abingdon Chapel

34 of 1560 Clay St. Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 7:55 am Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on August 13, 1970 in Carthage, IL to Richard and Mary Fleming Glisan.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mary and Danny Batson of Abingdon; his father and stepmother, Richard and Vicki Glisan of RR Galesburg; two sons, Jordan Glisan and Tyres Glisan both of Galesburg; two brothers, Bradley Glisan and Brian (and Linda) Glisan both of Abingdon; two sisters, Kena (and Larry) Erwin of Galesburg and Danielle (and Mike) Hall of Abingdon; step grandparents, Art and Dutch Batson of Abingdon and three nieces and two nephews.
He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1988, where he was a member of the baseball team.
He joined the US Army and served from July of 1988 until November of 1991. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
He was a track inspector for BNSF Railroad in Galesburg.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for his sons in care of Tompkins State Bank in Abingdon.

Mrs. Dorothy M. Morris, Galesburg Chapel

87, Franklin, TN, formerly of Galesburg, died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Southern Care, Franklin, TN.
She was born December 27, 1916 in Galesburg, the daughter of Carl and Esther O. Johnson Hallberg. She married O. Leroy Morris on June 11, 1939 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1982.
She is survived by 2 sons, Richard L. (and Donna) Morris, Franklin, TN and Stephen W. Morris, Gig Harbor, WA, a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Morris, Galesburg, 3 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister, Betty (and Earl) Snyder, Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
She was a homemaker who had lived in Galesburg all her life until moving to Franklin, TN in 2002. She was a 1934 graduate of Galesburg High School. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, Galesburg. She was a former member of the Knox County Home Extension and the Artist Guild of Galesburg.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mr. Rush M. Berry, Galesburg Chapel

83, 843 Abingdon St., Galesburg, died at 6:25 PM Sunday, November 14, 2004 in Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born May 8, 1921 in Galesburg, the son of Eddie and Grace Jabine Berry. He married Patsy Bond on September 30, 1950 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Rush Henry (and Lisa) Berry, Atlanta, GA, 2 daughters, Patsy Michele Berry, St. Louis, MO and Kaye Berry Gibson, Galesburg, 9 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and 3 sisters.
He worked at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 38 years. He retired in 1982. He had lived in Galesburg his entire life and graduated from Galesburg High School. He was a member of the Butler union and was also a coach for the Jr. Football League. He served in the United States Army during WWII.
Funeral will be 10 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. L.G. Trammell will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 10 AM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Junior Football League.

Mrs. Jean L. McGahey, Galesburg Chapel

73, of 862 S. Farnham St., Galesburg, IL died at 7:15 PM Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at her home.
She was born February 15, 1931 in Knoxville, IL the daughter of Herbert and Marjorie McNew Zeltner. She married John P. McGahey on October 3, 1953 in Cambridge, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Richard L. McGahey of Galesburg, Il and Bradley (wife Brenda) McGahey of Milton, FL, one daughter, Janet (husband Dana) Costin of Galesburg, IL, one brother, Herbert Zeltner of Galesburg, IL, one sister, Margaret (husband Mike) Zhiafos of Galesburg, IL, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and an Aunt Lillie Love who raised her.
She worked for the former Admiral Manufacturing Corporation in Quality Control for 15 years. She lived in the Galesburg and Knoxville area most her life. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1948.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2004 in the Knoxville (IL) Cemetery with Rev. Frederick Larner officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 19, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
