Mrs. Vista Katherine Cox, Abingdon Chapel

85 of 405 E. Monmouth St. Abingdon, died at 12:29 pm Monday, December 27, 2004 at her home.
She was born on December 2, 1919 in Biggers, Arkansas to John Lewis and Clara Josephine Carter Anderson. She married Cleo Robert Cox on October 3, 1935 in Pocahontas, AR. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1991.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Jeanetta Cox and Beverly Cox, one brother, one sister and one half-brother, a son-in-law Theodore Nelson.
Surviving are one son, Bob (and Verna) Cox of Abingdon; two daughters, Judy Simpson of Abingdon and Janet Nelson of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
She had lived in the Abingdon area since 1935.
She worked as a unit secretary at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1978.
She was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy and held many offices in the church including treasurer, missionary leader, and song leader. She also volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon for many years.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel.

Mrs. Peggy G. Bryant, Galesburg Chapel

95, Sycamore, IL, formerly of Galesburg, died at 2:15 PM Saturday, December 18, 2004 in Bethany Health Care Center, DeKalb, IL.
She was born September 14, 1909 in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Alonzo and Jessie Thorpe. She married Donald R. Bryant on September 14, 1927 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1972.
She is survived by 2 sons, Donald L. (and Joan) Bryant, Alamogordo, NM and Joseph N. (and Theresa) Bryant, Honolulu, HI, 3 daughters, Donna L. Taylor, Hawthorne, CA, Barbara A. (and John) Curry, Sycamore, IL, and Nancy L. (and Cornell) Brown, Sacramento, CA, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, John (and Shirley) Steele, Sycamore, IL, a host of cousins, including Nadine Woodson, Chicago, IL and Herbert (and Ruth) Thorpe, Macomb, IL, and 2 nephews, William Steele in Arizona and Brian Steele, Sycamore, IL. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Faith Bryant, a daughter, Jessie Mae Green in 1999, a son-in-law, Julius L. Green, a daughter-in-law, Laura A. Bryant, and 3 grandsons, Wesley V. Taylor, Bryon L. Scott, and Aaron L. Bryant.
She was a homemaker. She had also done in home work for Tom and Jan West of Galesburg for 20 years. She had lived in Galesburg for 62 years and in Sycamore since 1989. She was raised and educated in Macomb until moving to Cedar Rapids, IA during her sophomore year. She studied piano and singing and graduated from high school there.
At the age of 19 in 1928 she became a member of Israel of God’s Church, where she sang and played the piano for several years. She was a faithful member until her death.
Funeral will be 1 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 in Israel of God’s Church in Galesburg. The Rev. Harold Boyd will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 PM Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emma Christine Riley, Galesburg Chapel

92, of 215 Summit St., Galena, IL, formerly of Wataga, IL, died at 3:30 PM Thursday, December 23, 2004 in Galena (IL) Stauss Nursing Home.
She was born April 8, 1912 in Bishop Hill, IL the daughter of Eric and Christine Elblom Olson. She married O. N. Riley in Knoxville, IL on August 27, 1936. He died August 3, 1981.
She is survived by two sons; James R. (and Diana) Riley and Robert M. (and Pam) Riley, both of Galesburg, three daughters Marlene K. (and Alan) Garrett of Cherry Valley, IL, Dorothy A. (and Roger) Matson of Oswego, IL and Sandra J. (and Charles) Fach of Galena, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She ws preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from high school in Wataga in 1930. She has lived in Wataga, Manson Heights, Knoxville and Galena.
She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga. She was a member of the Lutheran Church Women (LCW). She also attended St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Galena and the Quilt Circle with in the church.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga with Rev. Jill Vivroux officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery near Delong IL. Memorials can be made to the Faith Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer Disease Association.

Mr. Herschel M. Lindeen, Galesburg Chapel

90, formerly of 1420 Russell Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 3:30 AM Saturday, December 25, 2004 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
He was born on February 2, 1914 in Harcourt, IA to Rev. Eugene Theodore and Anna Johnson Lindeen. He married Helen K. Adams in Altona, IL on August 10, 1945. She preceded him in death.
Surviving is a son, Roger L. Lindeen of Galesburg, three grandchildren; Sarah Lindeen and Mark Lindeen, both of Cincinnati, OH and Stacie (and Scott) Bloom of Bettendorf, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Sonja D. Lindeen, three brothers and two sisters.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was a charging board operator for Admiral Co. for many years, retiring in November, 1976. He was a member of First Lutheran Church serving as an usher and on the Church Council.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.

Mrs. Pansy B. Gray, 81, of 2345 N. Seminary St. died at 3:50 AM Wednesday December 29, 2004 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born September 6, 1923 in Puxico MO the daughter of Luther C. and Isa Wright Smith. She married Tom Gray in St. Louis MO in 1968. He died July 1968.
Survivors include one son Lance (wife Margie) Renfroe of Galesburg IL, one brother Jay Roy Smith of Cape Girardeau MO, one sister Pauline Wilkison of Trinty TX, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She was a secretary for a printing business in St. Louis MO for 20 years. She lived in St. Louis MO until moving to Deerfield Beach FL from 1969-1998. She moved to Galesburg in 1998. She graduated from high school in Puxico MO in 1941.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Brentwood MO.
A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Puxico MO. Memorials can be made to the Community Hospices of America. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Patricia R. Tappeiner, Galesburg Chapel

87, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at 5:55 AM Wednesday (12-22-04) in Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL.
She was born April 29, 1917 in Irapuato, Mexico to Frutoso and Soledad Raso Cabrera. She married Rudy Tappeiner 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma.
Surviving are 2 sons – Anthony Mendez of Clearwater, FL, Joseph Tappeiner of Ocala, FL; 3 daughters – Josie Jennings of St. Petersburg, FL, Jeannette Lewis of Monroe City, MO, Patricia Harrison of Kissimmee, FL; 3 brothers – Felix Cabrera of Romeoville, IL, Jesse Cabrera of Galesburg, IL, John Cabrera of Galesburg, IL; 2 sisters – Delores Schmidt of Charlotte South Carolina, Mary Coronado of Maywood, IL; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and a grandchild.
She was a patient care technician for St. Mary’s Hospital for 10 years and Galesburg Research Hospital for 5 years both in Galesburg, IL and retired in 1958. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg, IL and the church’s Alter Society, Auxiliary and prayer line. She was also a member of the Galesburg Lioness Club. She lived in Mexico until moving to Galesburg in 1928. In 1997 she moved with her daughter to St. Petersburg FL.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday (12-28-04) at Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg, IL with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. Mrs. Lupe E. Mendez, Galesburg Chapel

93, formerly of 1384 N. Henderson St. Galesburg IL died at 6:15 AM Wednesday December 22, 2004 in Knox County Nursing Home Knoxville IL.
She was born April 12, 1911 in El Paso TX the daughter of Jesus and Marcia VeLarde Martinez. She married Salvador Mendez in 1934 in Galesburg IL. He died in 1969.
She is survived by two sons Robert (wife Pansy) Mendez of Phoenix, AZ, Gene (his wife Becky) of Galesburg, IL; 2 brothers- Dave (his wife Jean) Martinez of Tyler, TX, Bernadino Martinez of Los Angeles, CA; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
She worked in the high school cafeteria in Galesburg district # 205 for several years. She later worked for the Intra State Telephone Company in Galesburg, IL as a matron before retiring. She was also an interpreter at the Knox County Court House, area Doctor’s offices and the former Outboard Marine Corp. Gale Products in Galesburg, IL. She was a member and very active of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall in Galesburg.
Funeral service will be 1:30 PM Tuesday (12-28-04) at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Elder Walter Wade officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:30 PM at the chapel. Mr. Thomas "Doggie" Keith, Galesburg Chapel

65, Knoxville, IL, died at 10:05 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born July 3, 1939 in Galesburg, the son of Winfield and Etta Wilson Keith. He married Carole L. Line in 1967 in Knox County, IL.
He is survived by 3 sons, Tommy (and Mary) Keith and Calvin Keith, both of Galesburg, Tommy L. Keith of Abingdon IL, 3 daughters, Donna (and Anthony) Courson, Galesburg, Kimberly K. Gibbs, Oldsburg, KS, and Tammy Admire, Colorado Springs, CO, one brother, Ed (and Sharon) Keith, Galesburg, 2 sisters, Ruby Kelley and Nora (and Harold) Colwell, both of Cameron, IL, 13 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers.
He was a truck driver for Rogers Brothers in Galesburg for 30 years. He had lived in Galesburg most of his life.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be 10 AM Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Milton Marquith will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. W. Gregory “Greg” Simpson, Galesburg Chapel

55, of 2725 Knox Rd. 500E, Rio, IL died at 9:54 AM Tuesday December 21, 2004 at his home.
He was born November 13, 1949 in Monmouth, IL the son of Walter G. and Shirley E. Merian Simpson. He married Susan E. Johnson in Cameron, IL on October 15, 1977. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Brad S. Simpson and Mark G. Simpson, both of Galesburg, IL, his mother, Shirley Simpson of Knoxville, IL, one brother, William J. (wife Rose) Simpson of Bloomington, IL, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father in 1997.
He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1975 in Vietnam, receiving the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
He was a farmer in the Cameron and Rio areas his entire life. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967 and attended Illinois State University and Carl Sandburg College. He was a member of the Rio Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau and the Little John Conservation Club.
He was a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church.
Funeral will be 10 AM Monday December 27, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Becky Ingram will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday December 26, 2004 at the chapel. Burial will be in Mosher Cemetery in Warren County with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Mrs. Clarcey Sue White, Galesburg Chapel

72, 1641 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, died at 10:18 AM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 in Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born May 2, 1932 in Galesburg, the daughter of John and Pauline Sara Riley McGahey. She married George McNeil. She later married Tom White.
She is survived by a son, Mike (and Mary Ann) McNeil, Galesburg, 3 brothers, Jay “Sonny” McGahey, John “Whoopie” McGahey, and Freddie (and Joanie) McGahey, all of Galesburg, 6 sisters, Shirley Edwards, Birdie (and Bill) Lietsch, Doris Ray, Patsy Mitchell, Betty (and Ray) Smith, and Mary (and Bill) Galloway, all of Galesburg, and 2 grandsons, Sean Michael and Zachary Kyle McNeil. She was preceded in death by one sister.
She had worked at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 15 years, the former State of Illinois Research Hospital in Galesburg for 14 years, and the Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg for 4 years. She retired in 1991.
She graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galesburg. She was a volunteer for Community Hospices of America, Galesburg Cottage Hospital, OSF St. Mary Medical Center, and Heartland Health Care Center. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
