Mr. Phillip Edward "Gus" Grabill, Galesburg Chapel

59, of 1040 Maiden Lane, Galesburg, IL, died at 12:35 PM Thursday February 24, 2005 at his home.
He was born December 31, 1945 in Galesburg, the son of Thomas A. Sr. and Katherine Clapp Grabill. He married Barbara A. Nelson in Galesburg on April 15, 1967.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Nickas, Galesburg, 2 daughters, Kimberly (and Marshall) Randolph, Monmouth, IL and Julie (and Greg) Windsor, Galesburg, a sister, Audrey Blust, Galesburg, 4 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
He worked as a painter and a fork truck driver at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 34 years. He retired December 1, 2003. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964. He was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union #2629. He was an avid bowler and bowled on several bowling leagues.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Ron Scarlett will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Humane Society or the Galesburg High School Booster Club.

Mr. James A. Thompson, Galesburg Chapel

83, of 897 Prairie St., Knoxville, IL, died at 12:51 PM Tuesday, February 22, 2005 in Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, IA.
He was born October 13, 1921 in Fulton County, IL to Martin Luther and Pearl Counselman Thompson. He married Mary Elizabeth “Beth” McCamey December 30, 1945 in Canton, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Kathryn (her husband Alan) Spillner of Cary, IL and Janet (her husband James) Spoden of Indianapolis, IN, and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Christine in 1969, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was a farmer in Fulton County for 5 years and in Knox County for 41 years. He retired in 1993 and moved to Knoxville, IL.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, IL where he was a former board member and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Vesper Masonic Lodge # 584, Knox County Farm Bureau, A.S.C.S. Board and was a 4-H leader. He served on the former Knox County Board of Supervisors and was a Galesburg Township Supervisor. He was a member of the Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross, American Red Cross Disaster Team, the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and its Color Guard.
He was a WWII United States Marine Corps veteran, serving in the South Pacific and serving in the Korean Conflict.
He graduated from Cuba High School, Cuba, IL, in 1939 and received an associate degree in agriculture from Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg, IL.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday February 26, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Galesburg with the Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 PM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Bonnie Lee Baxter Wenstrom, Galesburg Chapel

72, of 1237 N. Fifth St. Quincy, IL died at 9:52 AM Wednesday February 23, 2005 at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.
She was born August 27, 1932 in Springfield, MO to Joseph Howard and Lena June Evans Anderson. She married Charles Holmes Baxter April 13, 1951 in Burlington, IA. She later married Dale H. Wenstrom on May 5, 1990 in Henderson Grove, Knox County, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are 1 son, John Joseph (his wife Marsha Ann) Baxter of Clarence, IA, 4 daughters, Kathleen Ann Maisenbacher of Springfield, IL, Sherry Lee (her husband David) Forbes of Virden, IL, Aileen Suzanne Davis of North Liberty, IA, and Marylou Grell of Clarence, IA, one step daughter, Cherrie(husband Brian) Layton of Bristow, VA, one brother, Robert Anderson of Belleview, MI, fourteen grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
She was a homemaker. She lived in Galesburg, IL, Burlington, IA, Springfield, IL, and in Quincy, IL since 1992. She was of the Methodist faith and attended the Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove, IL.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday February 26, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Kurt Carlsen will officiate. Visitation will be 11AM to 1 PM Saturday February 26, 2005 at the chapel. Burial will be in Henderson Grove Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association.

Mr. Dennis L. Vanosdall, Galesburg Chapel

56, 1941 Patterson Drive, Galesburg, died at 11:15 PM Friday February 18, 2005 in the CGH Medical Center emergency room in Sterling, IL.
He was born June 27, 1948 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the son of Clarence Eugene and Mildred Florence Rich Vanosdall. He married Vicki L. White on June 7, 1966 in Bedford, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Jeff Vanosdall, Galesburg, a daughter, Denise (and John) Leo, Galesburg, 2 grandchildren, Joshua Bruns and Hayley Leo, both of Galesburg, his father in Cottageville, SC, 2 sisters, Linda (and Chuck) Howell, Cottageville, SC and Marla (and Frank) Weiss, Pompano Beach, FL, and aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He worked as a mechanical engineer for Vanmark Corporation in Iowa. He then relocated to Wisconsin where in 1980 he started Hawkeye Food Machinery. In 1982, the business was relocated to Galesburg, IL where he expanded the business and began to design and manufacture food processing equipment. In 1991, Hawkeye Food Machinery became part of Heat and Control, Inc. where he remained as division manager until his death.
He graduated from Bedford (Iowa) High School in 1966. He was blessed with the opportunity to travel throughout the world and to do what he loved for living, as well as enjoying many hobbies throughout his life.
Private family graveside services will be Thursday, February 24, 2005 in East Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, February 24, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the family to establish a memorial fund for Down’s Syndrome Research.

Mrs. Darline M. Hoff, Galesburg Chapel

73, formerly of 121 W. Simmons St., Galesburg, IL died at 2:45 PM Monday, February 21, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born October 27, 1931 in Galesburg the daughter of Ralph and Bertha Jordan Wingo. She married Donald Hoff in Galesburg on February 1, 1951. He died February 6, 1989.
Survivors include two sons; Don Hoff of Galesburg and Dave (and Debra) Hoff of East Galesburg IL, three brothers; Wilbur Wingo of Placida, FL, Melvin Wingo of Calhoun, GA and Bob Wingo of Seaton IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Debra Hoff in 1964, three brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker. She lived in Galesburg her entire life. She was a member of the Church of God on Holton St. Galesburg.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Church of God on Holton St.

Mr. Raymond "Ray" C. Jones, Sr., Abingdon Chapel

., 80 of Oldsmar, FL died Monday evening, February 21, 2005 at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Florida.
He was born on September 10, 1924 in Dacoma, OK to Homer and Grace Parker Jones. He married Dona L. Thurman on March 28, 1946 in Medicine Lodge, KS. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael G. (and Jayne) Jones of Abingdon, Ivan L. (and Janice) Jones of Bell Buckle, TN, Raymond C. “RC” Jones, Jr. of Kewanee; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willie Jones and one sister, Bessie Soper.
He had lived in Abingdon most of his life where he owned and operated the former Ray’s Service station for 25 years. He moved to Florida in 1995.
While living in Abingdon, he was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Abingdon Rotary Club, served on the Zoning Board and coached Little League Baseball.
He was a member of the Abingdon Pottery Collector’s Club.
He was a WW II veteran serving in the US Air Force.
Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, at the Gull Aire Village Clubhouse in Oldsmar. Local services in Abingdon will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Mary E. Mitchell, Galesburg Chapel

81, 239 Cottage Ave., Galesburg, died at 6:05 PM Sunday, February 20, 2005 in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born May 28, 1923 in Galesburg, the daughter of Daniel Joseph and Ruth Orlina Wimmergren Cills. She married Carl L. Mitchell on June 12, 1943 in Las Vegas, NV. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, Michael Lee Mitchell, Galesburg, Jody Carl (and Robin) Mitchell, Colorado Springs, CO, and Daniel Kevin Mitchell, Galesburg, 2 brothers, John Cills, Knoxville, IL and Maxwell Cills, Galesburg, one sister, Carroll Coddington, Santa Rosa, CA, one grandson, Michael Herriford, London Mills, IL, and 2 granddaughters, Carly and Alyssa Mitchell, both of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick George Mitchell in 1984, a granddaughter, Bobby Jo Mitchell in 1984, and one brother.
She was a homemaker. She also operated a beauty shop out of her home for 10 years. She had lived in Galesburg her entire life. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. She was a member of the Mother’s Club.
Private family funeral will be Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Presley will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.

Mr. Rex E. Myers, Galesburg Chapel

59, of 794 E. Berrien St., died at 6:45 AM Thursday, February 17, 2005 at his home.
He was born January 14, 1946 in Monmouth, IL the son of David Eugene and Ellen Starkey Myers.
He is survived by his mother, Ellen Myers of Monmouth, IL, his fiancée, Bonnie Williamson of Galesburg, IL, five sons, Doug Myers of Kansas, Tim Myers of Kansas, Rex Myers, Jr. of Illinois, David Myers of Galesburg, IL and Dustin Myers of Galesburg, IL, one daughter, Bertha Myers of Kennewick, WA, two brothers, Rodney Myers of Mediapolis, IA and David Myers of Kirkwood, IL, four sisters, Terry Meyer of Monmouth, IL, Marcia Jenkins of Galesburg, IL, Rhonda Schlichting of Orion, IL, and Mary Ray of Little York, IL, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He served in the Marine Corps. He was a truck driver for 30 years, retiring in 1998.

Mr. James Delbert “J.D.” Dixon, Galesburg Chapel

74, 973 S. Pearl St., Galesburg, died at 12:30 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2005 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born April 27, 1930 in Joplin, MO, the son of James W. and Beatrice White Dixon. He married Charlotte Cora Christofferson on December 7, 1968 in Woodlake, CA. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Mike Marshall, Sacramento, CA, 4 daughters, Barbara (and Forest) Williams and Tammy (and Manuel) Franco, both of Tulari, CA, Sherry Ryan, Atascadero, CA, and Brenda (and Dennis, Sr.) Johnson in Oklahoma, a sister, Delores Prater, Hanford, CA, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Danny Dixon on July 16, 2003.
He worked in building maintenance for the State of California for several years, retiring in 1988. He also had a total of 24 years military experience, serving in the United States Army for several years and then in the National Guard while living in California. He had lived in Galesburg since 1992 and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints here.
He had been a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Hunting Association.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Saturday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be accorded by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

68, of 440 W. South St., Galesburg, IL died at 2:25 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at her home.
She was born August 18, 1936 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of William and Hattie Mae Rosenbalm Hale. She married Henry L. Colwell November 24, 1957 in Galesburg, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons, James Colwell and Robert Colwell, both of Galesburg, IL and John Colwell of Loraine, Texas, 2 daughters, Ruth Vaglica of Galesburg, IL and Jeanette Colwell of Monmouth, IL, 1 brother, Robert Hale, 2 sisters, Lois R. Williams, Abingdon, IL and Lee Kearns of Galesburg, IL; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
She was a homemaker and lived in Galesburg all of her life.
