Mrs. June E. Hatch, Abingdon Chapel

87 of Abingdon died at 8:00 am Monday, March 28, 2005 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home in Galesburg.
She was born June 27, 1917 in Bader, IL to Fred E. and Pearl Marie Garrett McLaren. She married Carl E. Hatch on July 24, 1935 in Bushnell. He preceded her in death May 30, 1988.
Surviving are one son, Robert E. (and June) Hatch of Galesburg three daughters, Beverly (and Russell) Onion, Marie Hatch and Carolyn (and Richard) Hughes all of Abingdon; two sisters, Roberta Courter of Galesburg and Twila Anderson of Murray, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 11great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one great-great grandchild, and three brothers, Pete, Gene & Bill McLaren.
She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1935 and had lived in Avon, Prairie City and Bushnell prior to moving to Abingdon in 1942.
She worked at the former Blue Bell Co., Stewart Grocery and the Abingdon Pottery and last worked for Admirals in Galesburg retiring in 1962.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
She was an avid golfer and bowler and loved to go fishing.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Seminary Manor Alzheimer’s Unit.

Mr. Gilbert Gerard, Galesburg Chapel

89, Knoxville, IL, formerly of 1077 N. Prairie St., Galesburg, died at 11:27 AM Monday, March 28, 2005 in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
He was born August 18, 1915 in Toulon, IL, the son of John and Cora Loudenburg Gerard. He married Marguerite Tietz on July 18, 1939 in Kewanee, IL. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2002.
He is survived by 3 sons, Richard (and Jeanne) Gerard, Champaign, IL, Jack (and Linda) Gerard, Pontiac, IL, and Greg (and Sandy) Gerard, Galesburg, a daughter, Cheryl Bryner, Kewanee, IL, a brother, Ralph (and Marguerite) Gerard, Toulon, IL, 9 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
He was the manager of the former A & P Grocery Store for 30 years. He then worked for Dick Blick Company for 15 years. He retired in 1993. He graduated from Toulon High School in 1932. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He served in the United States Air Force for 37 months during WWII. He was stationed in Japan as part of the Pacific Theatre.
Visitation will be 11 to 12:30 PM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Private family graveside memorial services will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia Foundation or St. Jude’s Hospital.

Mr. William C. Logue, Jr., Galesburg Chapel

77, of 484 Lawrence Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 6:30 AM Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his home.
He was born August 9, 1927 in Maquon, IL the son of William and Violet Forquer Logue, Sr. He married Patricia Linze in Galesburg on April 28, 1978. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Kris (and Gloria) Cokel in MS and Anthony (and Marcy) Cokel of Monmouth, IL, one daughter, Delores (and her fiancé, Randy Lee, Jr.) Logue of Galesburg, one sister, Doris Webster of Galesburg, two granddaughters and five grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one nephew.
He served in the US Navy for three years as a Seaman on the USS Norton Sound.
He worked for Caterpillar in Peoria IL and Kanartz Company in Galesburg. He then worked at the Galesburg Mental Health Center doing various jobs. He last worked as a residential aide for Bridgeway. He graduated from San Leandro (CA) High School in 1945. He lived in Maquon and Galesburg for the last 30 years.
He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Galesburg IL.
Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the family in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Jerry L.M. Lamb, Galesburg Chapel

72, 718 N. Prairie St., Galesburg, died at 2:40 PM Saturday, March 19, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital’s emergency room.
He was born March 9, 1933 in Owensboro, KY, the son of Leslie M. and Aretta Gaddis Lamb. He married Claire Barnstead on February 10, 1972 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a caregiver, Jeff Dahl, Galesburg, 2 sons, Garry Lamb, Whiteville, KY and Steve (and Joyce) Lamb, Utica, KY, 3 daughters, Rita (and Carol) Wilson, Judy (and Charles) Lewis, and Micheal Lewis, all of Owensboro, KY, a brother, Lewis (and Joyce) Lamb, Owensboro, KY, 2 sisters, Bonnie Mayes, Calhoun, KY and Beverly (and Gene) Lutteral, Panther, KY, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
He was a carpenter and also worked at Iowa Malleable for 18 years, retiring in 1990. He attended East Main Congregational United Church of Christ in Galesburg and was the custodian there. He graduated from Owensboro High School. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #894 in Galesburg and was its past Exalted Ruler. He was a member of the Galesburg Historical Society. He was a drummer and played in many country and western bands.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be 11 AM Monday, March 28, 2005 in East Main Congregational United Church of Christ. The Rev. Robin Faull will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Monday at the church. Memorials can be made to the Elks Scholarship at Carl Sandburg College.

Ms. Kathleen Ann (Kathi) Cox, Galesburg Chapel

55, of 432 Wyman, Sycamore, IL died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at 11:55 AM at her home.
She was born January 4, 1950 in Kewanee, IL the daughter of Gerry M. and Marian M. Richards Cox.
She is survived by her mother, Marian of Galesburg, two brothers; Kevin (Nancy) Cox of Aurora, IL and Kerry D. Cox of Galesburg, several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1968, attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg and Elgin Community College in Elgin, IL. She worked for the Galesburg Mental Health Center for many years and then for the Elgin Mental Health Center for 22 years as a technician, retiring in 2002. She was an artist all her life, making pottery and jewelry.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until time of service. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Iris Winona Brooks Johnson, Galesburg Chapel

87, of 783 Ruby St., Galesburg, IL died 5:00 AM at her home, Saturday, March 26, 2005.
She was born on March 7, 1918 in a farmhouse outside New Windsor, IL to John William and Agnes Elizabeth Miller Brooks. Iris married O. Willard Johnson on October 8, 1938 in Galesburg, IL.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael G. Johnson (his wife Ellen) of Springdale, AR, and Dr. Milo R. Johnson (his wife Peggy) of Buena Vista, CO. There are three grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Kelley Suzanne (her husband Jay) Johnson Scifres and their three children (Michael, Erin, and Emily) in Richardson, TX, Mr. Todd Stephen (wife Betsey) Johnson and their two sons (Jacob and Payton ) in Gunnison, CO, and Karen Marie (husband Steve) Johnson Weimer and their daughter (Hope) in Springdale, AR.
Iris worked most of her career in Galesburg, earlier in several homes, grocery stores, restaurants, the Scandia Bakery, Osco Drug and the last 30 years at Admiral Manufacturing, retiring in 1980. She then served as a tour guide for nine years at Admiral/Maytag and did volunteer work for the Red Cross Blood Bank.
She graduated from New Windsor High in 1936.
She attended the Advent Christian Church, New Community Christian Church and First Christian Church in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded. There will be no visitation and graveside services to celebrate the life of Iris will be announced and held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials can be made to the American Red Cross Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter, Knox County Humane Society, and OSF Hospice, Galesburg IL.

Mrs. Eileen Mills, Abingdon Chapel

82 of Abingdon passed away at 2:50 am Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with a Rosary Service at 4:00 pm. Private graveside service will be held for the immediate family. Rev. David Kurt will officiate.
Eileen Wheeler was born on December 17, 1922 in West Point, Iowa, the daughter of Gerald and Anna Fullenkamp Wheeler. Following graduation from high school, she attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and later was a teacher in Iowa. On August 5, 1947 she married John M. Mills. They farmed in Warren County. Eileen was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry (and wife Margot) Mills of Mesa, AZ and John Mills of Avon; two daughters, Mary Ann (and husband Daryl) Haley of Tipton, Iowa and Nancy (and husband Mark) Carpenter of Maple Grove, MN; a brother, Gerald H. Wheeler of West Point, Iowa; a sister, Joan Menke of West Point, IA; 3 grandchildren, Jack Carpenter, Melinda Haley, Melissa (and husband Tom) Reed and many cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, a sister and two brothers.

Mrs. Lurene R. Heck, Galesburg Chapel

91, 197 Knox Road 2350 N, Rio, IL, died at 3:17 AM Sunday, March 20, 2005 in Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born March 7. 1914 in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of Glen H. and Laurel Bannister Randall. She married Garrett B. Heck on April 7, 1933 in Aledo, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are 5 sons, Verle (and Mary) Heck, Tulsa, OK, Harry “Tom” Heck, Gatesville, TX, Larry Heck, Aledo, IL, Garrett Lee (and Laveta) Heck, Rutledge, MO, and Charles “Bud” (and Pam) Heck, Rio, IL, 2 daughters, Beverly Ketner, Galesburg and Brenda Heck, Rio, IL, 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Blaine Heck in 1990 and LeRoy “Butch” Heck in 1995 and 2 daughters-in-law.
She was a homemaker and also helped her husband on the family farm. She was a self taught organist and pianist. She graduated from Little York High School. She was a member of the Boots and Saddle Club and the Illinois Stock Horse Association. She was of Methodist faith.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be Noon to 1:30 PM Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.

Mrs. Dorothy R. Qualls Galesburg Chapel

of 1521 Maple Ave., Galesburg, died Sunday, March 20, 2005.
She is survived by 2 sons, Richard Qualls, Galesburg and Ted S. Qualls, Decatur, TX, a daughter, Kathryn C. Qualls, Galesburg, and 6 grandchildren.
Private family graveside services will be held. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mabel Edna Johnson, Abingdon Chapel

107, of 801 W. Martin St., Abingdon, IL died at 8:35 AM Monday March 21, 2005 in the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born April 27, 1897 in Berwick, IL, the daughter of Thomas J. and Susie Murgatroyd Ray. She married Herman E. Johnson on March 1, 1920 in Berwick, IL. He died in 1977.
Survivors include one son, Arlien (wife Marna) Johnson of Abingdon, IL, one daughter-in-law, Sallye Johnson-Wade of Knoxville, IL, one sister, Florence Berg of Avon, IL, formerly of Berwick, IL, several nieces and nephews, three grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, three brothers and three sisters.
She farmed near Berwick, IL until moving to Abingdon, IL in 1926. She worked for the former Globe Superior later called the Blue Belle Garment Factory for 32 years.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens group in Abingdon and a member of the Harry Wiles American Legion Auxiliary Post #381.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Wednesday in the Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, IL. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 AM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Activity Department at the Care Center of Abingdon.
