Mr. Lowell R. Yates, Galesburg Chapel

86, 207 Lincoln St., Galesburg, died at 5:39 AM Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born September 11, 1918 in Knoxville, IL, the son of William H. and Julia G. Parsons Yates. He married Betty Dixon on August 29, 1941 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Roger (and Carleen) Yates, Carpentersville, IL, a daughter, Dottie (and Jack) Frame, Elmwood, a brother, Wendell Yates, Tucson, AZ, 4 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters.
He was a tool and die engineer at Rowe Manufacturing Company for 41 years. He retired in August of 1980. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1936. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. He served in the United States Army for 3 years during WWII. He was stationed in Hawaii.
He was a self taught, accomplished artist, photographer, and carpenter, winning many awards throughout the years.
Funeral will be 1 PM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Revs. Scott Grulke and Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 11:30 AM to 1 PM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a presentation of the flag by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials can be made to First Untied Methodist Church.

Mrs. Janet G. Hathaway, Galesburg Chapel

58, 227 E. Coal St., Wataga, IL, died at 8:05 AM Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born November 10, 1946 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Edith G. DePrima Munts. She married Kenneth J. Hathaway on February 11, 1978 in Wataga, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, Joe (and Pat) Hathaway, Galesburg, 2 daughters, Cathie (and Randy) Brush and Sharrie (and Victor) Justus, both of Galesburg, 2 brothers, Roy (and Jan) Munts in Florida and Ray Munts, Danville, IL, a sister, Agnes “Aggie” (and Curt) Parker, Toulon, IL, 10 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a fork truck driver and assembler at Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for 26 ½ years, retiring in 2004. She attended schools in Kewanee and received her GED from Carl Sandburg College. She had lived in Wataga for the past 27 years and was a member of the Wataga Congregational Church.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 PM Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Howard "Sam" Boyd, Abingdon Chapel

78 of RR Galesburg died at 6:30 am Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born August 26, 1926 in Bushnell to Harold E. and Lottie Helen Clark Boyd. He married Edna Geraldine ”Gerry” Johnson on May 19, 1946 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death in October of 1981.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Lee Boyd, a granddaughter, Shelly Peacock, a grandson, Todd Josefson, three brothers, Edward Boyd, George Boyd and Vincil “Toot” Boyd, and one sister, Polly Zook.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol (and Steve) Josefson of RR Galesburg; one brother, Max (and Jo) Boyd of Avon; three sisters, Phyllis (and Earnest) Repp of Avon, Barbara “Bob” Paul of Pekin and Betty (and Newt) Howard of Bushnell; 2 grandsons, Jason (and Jona) Josefson of Springfield and Chad (and Stacy) Josefson of RR Galesburg.
He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked for Briggs Mfg. (Abingdon Pottery) for 45 years as a sprayer and later as an inspector. He was a past director for the Abingdon Pottery Credit Union.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Raymond McLaren and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Athletic Booster Club for use in the football and baseball programs.

Mr. Gordon R. Swanson, Galesburg Chapel

58, 2697 Costa Drive, Galesburg, died at 2:48 PM Sunday, April 24, 2005 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1946 in Galesburg, the son of Ralph and Ethel Carlton Swanson. He married Bonnie J. Purman on November 24, 1972 in Galva, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Brian (and Rachael) Swanson, Lee’s Summit, MO, 2 daughters, Jill (and Lenny) Hoover, Winnamucca, NV and Jennifer Swanson, St. Louis, MO, 2 brothers, Phil (and Karen) Swanson, Galesburg and Ken (and Kath) Swanson, Tallahassee, FL, and one sister, Marge (and Danny) McMullin, Galesburg.
He worked at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for a short time. He then was an agent with Prudential Insurance Company for 25 years, until 2002. Since then, he has been an agent with Cratty Insurance Agency.
He was a 1964 graduate of Galesburg High School. He attended Brown’s Business College. He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1974. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Life Underwriter’s Association. He was an avid Silver Streak fan.
Funeral will be 10 AM Thursday in the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Scott Grulke will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Donna J. Leuchtenberg, Galesburg Chapel

77, 29 Chestnut St., Galesburg, IL died at 8:00 PM Saturday April 23, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL.
She was born April 18, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI the daughter of Charles A. and Avanna C. Cooper Norris. She married Paul H. Carlson July 26, 1947 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1982. She later married Wayne F. Leuchtenberg June 16, 1984 in Galesburg, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is one son, Paul H. (and Lupe) Carlson, Jr., Moline, IL, one daughter, Paula (and Joel) Graham, Knoxville, IL, one step-daughter, Janet (and Frank) Shobe, Bloomington, IL, three brothers, Charles A. (and Mary Alice) Norris, Jr., Sacramento, CA, Richard E. (and Phyllis) Norris, Galesburg, IL, and Max L. (and Tricia) Norris, Modesto, CA, one sister, Sandra K. (and Wayne) Madvig, Galesburg, IL, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son, David Leuchtenberg, one brother and one sister.
She was a house cleaner in the Galesburg area for thirty years. She then worked for Pioneer Seed Company in Woodhull, IL. Later she and her husband owned and operated Wayne’s Lawn Mower Service in Galesburg.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Circles in Galesburg, IL.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday April 27, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Trish Madden officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the family.

Mr. Carl R. Lampkin, Abingdon Chapel

70, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon died at 4:47 pm Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Care Center.
He was born on February 22, 1935 to Henry and Sissy Despain Lampkin.
Surviving are two brothers, Jack Lampkin and Everett Lampkin both of Genoa, IL two sisters, his twin sister, Laura Lampkin of Sterling and Nettie Carroll of Princeton: three stepbrothers, Dick Carroll and Bobby Carroll both of Ottawa and Earl Lampkin in Oklahoma; two stepsister, Annie Dennen and Julie Enlow both in Missouri.
Graveside service will be at 11 am Tuesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruth E. Waldeck, Galesburg Chapel

86, formerly of 1531 Monroe St., Galesburg, died at 4:57 AM Friday, April 22, 2005 in Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born November 18, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of John and Mamie Harig Wuebben. She married Michael C. Waldeck on December 31, 1936 in Lawrenceburg, IN. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1971.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Sandra F. Howrey, Indianapolis, IN and Marsha R. Waldeck, Galesburg, a brother, Edward Wuebben, Cincinnati, OH, a sister, Anne Cooney, Cincinnati, OH, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Vickie A. Frederick and Maureen L. Hillier, who was a twin to Marsha, 3 brothers, and one sister.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg.
Private family graveside services Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kimberly D. Weinberg, Galesburg Chapel

44, 1639 Florence Ave., Galesburg, died at 10:05 AM Thursday, April 21, 2005 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
She was born September 12, 1960 in Tempe, AZ the daughter of Sharon Stanforth. She married Jeffrey Weinberg on November 6, 1993 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving is her mother, Sharon Stanforth Payne, Wataga, IL, a step daughter, Jamie Weinberg, Galesburg, and one brother, Dereck Morse, Palmdale, CA.
She worked at Lakeside Tennis Club for one year. She currently was tutoring in several business classes at Carl Sandburg College. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1978. She graduated with high honors from Carl Sandburg College in 2003 with an associate’s degree in accounting. She was in Who’s Who in Scholastic Achievement of America.
Funeral will be 10 AM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery, Henderson, IL. Memorials can be made to the family or Life Flight in care of OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Mr. James W. “Bill” Lee, Galesburg Chapel

69, 109 S. State St., Henderson, IL, died at 1:15 AM Monday, April 18, 2005 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born August 13, 1935 in Monmouth, IL, the son of James “Jim” and Leona Melaney Lee. He married Rose N. Nelson French on May 26, 1962 in Galesburg. She survives.
He is survived by 2 sons, Christopher Lee, Kemah, TX and Craig (and Terri) Lee, Beaufort, SC, 3 grandchildren, one brother, David (and Mary) Lee, Monmouth, IL, and 3 sisters, Juanita (and Hod) O’Hern, Sarasota, FL, Rose Mary (and Bucky) Koskey and Doris Woodward, both of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by a son, Keevin Lee and a step son, Chuck French.
He worked as a shift supervisor at Smurfit Stone Corporation in Galesburg for 41 years. He retired in 1997. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1953. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956. He was an MP in Kodiak, Alaska.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be 10 AM Friday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Thursday at the chapel with Prayer of the Rosary at 8 PM. Private family burial of ashes will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Barnes-Jewish Thoracic Unit, Make A Wish Foundation, or to masses.

Mrs. Imogene C. Nelson, Galesburg Chapel

87, 275 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg, died at 2:52 AM Sunday, April 17, 2005 in Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born August 29, 1917 in Galesburg, the daughter of Charles and Barbara Steck Beegle. She married Merle W. Nelson on March 3, 1935 in Macomb, IL. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1984.
She is survived by a son, David M. (and Sherry) Nelson, Galesburg, a daughter, Rebecca J. Murray, Galesburg,5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, James Nelson and Stanley Joseph Nelson and one sister.
She was a cashier at Arlan’s for 10 years and also worked at Sudsy’s for 2 years and Leighton’s Sundries for 8 years. She lived most of her life in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Thursday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bob Wakefield will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 PM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorial can be made to Faith United Methodist Church.
