Mr. John Henry Curtis, Abingdon Chapel

, 85, 407 N. Rotary Drive, died at 9:15 am Friday, August 26, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Moline, IL to Ross L. and Nora Bowser Curtis. He married Rosemary A. Hilfrink on May 25, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Randall W. (and Carol A.) Curtis of St. Petersburg, FL and Dennis R. Curtis of Jacksonville, IL; two daughters, Mary Jo (and Jerry) Moshier of Abingdon, Teresa Edgar of East Peoria; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren: one half brother, Jimmy Curtis of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Johnny Clifford Curtis, three brothers and three sisters.
He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He had also lived in Lowell, AZ for a short time.
He worked at the former American Sanitary Factory in Abingdon and later at the former Gale Products in Galesburg as a drill press operator for 26 years retiring in 1979.
He served in the US Army for five years during WW II. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and golfer and enjoyed bingo and playing cards. He was a registered baseball umpire and umpired several years at the Abingdon ballpark. He was a past member of the Abingdon Auxiliary Police Department. He was a volunteer driver for the Abingdon Ambulance service.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Father William Miller will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post. Calling hours will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

Mrs. Betty J. Bean, Galesburg Chapel

75, 3167 Dover Lane, Galesburg, died at 9:09 PM Thursday, August 25, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born August 16, 1930 in Bushnell, IL, the daughter of Helen Butler. She married Clarence E. Bean on July 2, 1951 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 daughters, Vicki (and Ashley) Johnson, Galesburg, Beverly Cummings, Abingdon, IL, and Sandra (and John) Georgeson, Colorado Springs, CO, 5 grandchildren, and a brother, Larry (and Barb) Berggren, Cameron, IL. She was preceded in death by her mother.
She was an operator and supervisor at the former Intra State/Centel Telephone Company in Galesburg for 35 years. She retired in 1986. She graduated from Peoria Manual High School. She had lived in Galesburg most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10:30 AM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the chapel. Entombment will be in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Jimmie B. Roberson, Galesburg Chapel

62, 900 W. Dayton St., Galesburg, IL died at 5:33 PM Saturday August 20, 2005 at Illini Hospital, Silvis, IL.
He was born December 24, 1942 in Louisville, Mississippi the son of Willie J. and Ruby Young Roberson.
He is survived by one son, Justin (and Robin) Roberson of Galesburg, Justin’s mother, Iva D. Steward, six brothers, Raymond Young of Galesburg, Joe Lewis Roberson, Cornielus Roberson, Otis Roberson, George Roberson, and James Roberson, all of Seattle, WA, two sisters, Debbie Roberson of Chicago and Candy Kniss of Colorado, a special friend, Mary Ann Norris whom he lived with, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Willie Ruth Redmond.
He graduated from Galesburg High School and Carl Sandburg College. He worked for the City of Galesburg Fire Department for 20 years retiring December 31, 1992. He was a member of the Firefighters Local 555. He served in the United States Navy for six years.
Graveside services will be 12 noon Saturday August 27, 2005 at East Linwood Cemetery, with Rev. Jon Sibley officiating. Military services will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Mr. Lloyd Thomas Allen, Galesburg Chapel

70, 961 E. South St., Galesburg, IL died at 11:35 PM Tuesday August 23, 2005 at this home.
He was born August 20, 1935 in Galesburg, IL the son of Percy Lee and Hazel McHaffie Allen. He married Geraldine R. Simmons in Galesburg in 1958. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Thomas Lee Allen, Canton, IL, two brothers, Robert L. (wife Louise) Allen, Galesburg and Ronald J. (wife Sharon) Allen, Cave City, KY, one sister, Leona M. (husband Merle) Kluthe, Vandalia, IL, one sister-in-law, Marjorie Allen, Galesburg, three grandchildren, Alixandria, Melissa Sue and Thomas K. Allen, and one great grandson, Cedric Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
He was a warehouse supervisor for May Company for 25 years. He then worked for Connor Company for 15 years, retiring in 2004. He attended Galesburg schools.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. James Oliver will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Friday at the chapel. Mrs. Leah Charlene Baughman Moe, Galesburg Chapel

77, Fort Worth, TX, formerly of Galesburg, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at her home.
She was born April 15, 1928 in Mineral, IL, the daughter of Clifford William and Sylvia Opal Elliott Baughman. She married Billy J. Moe. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Jeffery (and Linda) Moe, Woodridge, IL, 2 daughters, Rickey (and Roger) Durkee, Davenport, Iowa and Linda (and Allan) Elfassy, Fort Worth, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a sister, Hilma VanSickel, Kokomo, IN.
She was a member of First Congregation Church United Church of Christ. She had lived in Fort Worth since 1993.
Cremation was accorded. Graveside memorial services will be 10 AM Wednesday, August 24, 2005 in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. The Rev. Betty Hornback will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mr. Charles L. Rash, Galesburg Chapel

66, of Stockton, MO died at 2:25 PM Thursday August 18, 2005 at his home.
He was born April 28, 1939 in Kirksville, MO the son of Charley L. and Lula Nelson Rash. He married Nancy J. Line on March 1, 1969 in Wataga, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Charles (wife Pam) Rash of Joliet, IL, Richard Rash of Kirksville, MO, Randy (wife Brandy) Rash of Fulton, IL, and Robert Rash of Fulton, IL, one sister-in-law, Evelyn Rash of Galesburg, IL, two sisters, Judy Hays of Kirksville, MO and Patty Novenger of Kirksville, MO, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Virginia Rash, and two brothers, Bob and Larry Rash.
He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years, retiring in April 1995. He graduated from Laplata (MO) High School in 1957. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Alda L. Boone, Galesburg Chapel

88, 911 Lincoln St., Galesburg, IL died at 8:35 AM Saturday August 20, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 11, 1917 in Rio, IL the daughter of Clarence and Sophia Briggs. She married LeRoy Boone on October 8, 1940 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Surviving are three sons, Gary (and Iona) Boone, Galesburg, Carl Dean Boone, Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Thomas (and Donna) Boone, Mesa, AZ, one sister, Vera Morrison, Galesburg, nine grandchildren, including Tyler Boone and Tom Boone, Jr., whom she raised, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, one daughter, and one granddaughter.
She worked for the Knox Laundry for over thirty years, retiring in 1974. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Tuesday August 23, 2005 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ron Scarlett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Riley L. Bowen, Galesburg Chapel

90, formerly of 1079 N. Cherry St., Galesburg, IL, died at 5:15 AM Friday, August 19, 2005 in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
He was born March 17, 1915 in Richland County, IL, the son of Harry D. and Freda Griffin Bowen. He married Rachel Boley on August 12, 1936 in Charleston, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Don Edward (and Karla) Bowen, Oklahoma City, OK, a daughter, Nancy (and William) Balbinotti, Galesburg, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
He and his brother ran Bowen Ice Cream in West Frankfort, IL. He was a Biology teacher at Galesburg High School for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He also farmed with his daughter. He had lived in Galesburg since the 1940’s. He graduated from Olney (IL) High School in 1934. He attended Eastern Illinois University for 2 years. He received his master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1941. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg and the Methodist Men’s Group. He was the ticket manager at Galesburg High School for 14 years. He served in the United States Army for 2 years during WWII and was stationed in Europe.
Funeral will be 10 AM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 10 AM Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Carrie Lomax, Abingdon Chapel

91 of 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt. 303 died at 5:52 pm Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born April 8, 1914 in Bushnell, IL to Henry and Ida Belle Raby Dilts. She married LaVerne Lomax on April 8, 1933 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1957.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosie (and Marv) Murphy of Mason City, IA and Lynn &and Ed) West of Cameron; two sisters, Marge Hovell of Abingdon and Irene Hutchins of prairie City; two grandchildren, Crystal (and Keith) Murphy-Schriber of Mason City, IA and Dana (and Karen) Allen of Knoxville; one great grandchild, Chase Daniel Allen.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol Lee Lomax and six brothers.
She attended country schools near Bushnell. She had lived most of her adult life in Abingdon where she worked at the former Blue Bell Mfg and Shank’s Clothing Store, and at the former Abingdon Pottery in the art ware department. She was also a housecleaner for the Claude Craver family.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.
She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed crocheting, quilting and ceramic works. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.
Services will be at 10:30 am Monday at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service on Monday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dillon H. Terpening, Galesburg Chapel

51, 1145 Frank St., Galesburg, died at 12:44 PM Wednesday, August 17, 2005 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born January 12, 1954 in Galesburg, the son of Harold L. and Nancy L. Manchester Terpening.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Louise Terpening and Alice (and Brian) Rubin, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a carrier for the Peoria Journal Star. He then was a Yellow Cab Company taxi driver. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1972. He attended Le Tourneau University in Longview, TX for 1 year. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church in Galesburg. He was active in several bowling leagues in Galesburg.
Funeral will be 11 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Terry England will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Terpening Cemetery, Warren County, IL. Memorials can be made to Galesburg Terrace for the purchase of a handi-van or Western Illinois Hemo-Dialysis Unit.
