Mrs. Loraine A. Erickson Parrish, Galesburg Chapel

THE LIFE OF THE PARTY…
This was a frequent description of long time Galesburg resident and gentle soul Loraine A. Erickson Parrish (nee DeForest), of 2345 N. Seminary Street, Galesburg who passed away early Tuesday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mrs. Parrish was 90 years old.
For nearly a century, countless residents of Knox County enjoyed Loraine’s smiling, cheerful manner. From her volunteer work at nursing centers…to her love of festive good times…to her years of serving lunches to generations of school kids, she was always the life of the party.
Born on April 20th, 1915, in Oneida, Illinois, the daughter of Dee and Pearl De Forest, Loraine grew up a loving, nurturing spirit. She went to Woodhull Elementary and Galesburg High School, and she always wanted to be a nurse. But destiny required Loraine to forego nursing school for the real-life version — caring for an ailing mother.
In 1937 Lorraine married local Galesburg boy, Robert ‘Bud’ Erickson, and the twosome soon started a family in their tidy little bungalow on Dayton Street. Two daughters and many "pot¬luck" dinners later, Lorraine settled into a wonderful life in Galesburg with her many friends.
She loved to play bridge, read popular novels, and dance the night away to Clyde McCoy’s ‘Sugar Blues.’ She always followed her beloved "Cubbies," and she had a sweet, sometimes irreverent sense of humor.
Bud Erickson preceded Lorraine in death on July 4th, 1978. A second husband, Ernest Parrish, preceded her in death on April 13th, 1997.
Loraine was also proud of her service to the community and volunteer work. For years she worked for School District 205 as a cook, and was a fixture at the polls every election year as a local poll judge. In the mid-nineties, the Americana Nursing home named Lorraine "Volunteer of the Year."
"Pasie" (a nickname coined by one of her many grandchildren) will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, which include 2 daughters, Diane Bonansinga and husband Sully of Huntley, IL, and Rebecca Jones of Peoria; a brother, LaVergne DeForest, of Rome, Indiana; a step¬sister, Jayne Dandley, and husband Calvin, of Keystone, Colorado; 5 grandchildren: Jay Bonansinga and wife Jeanne of Evanston, IL; Kathleen Jones of Peoria, IL; Tod Bonansinga of Huntley, IL; Matthew Jones and wife Sandra of Morton, IL; and Jon Bonansinga of Naperville, IL; and 7 great grandchildren: Joe and Bill Bonansinga of Evanston, IL, Gus Steinberg-Jones of Peoria, IL, Caylie, Courtney, and Cody Jones of Morton, IL, and Dominick Bonansinga of Huntley, IL.
Services will be held at 11.00 a.m. on Monday, November 28th, in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will follow at East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
