Mr. Ronald L. Horkstrom, Galesburg Chapel

66, of RR 1 Box 287 Oquawka, IL died 1:20 AM Friday December 23, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born February 19, 1939 in Galesburg to Herman E. and Annetta Schaller Horkstrom. He married Kay Quinney in Galva, IL 1959. He later married D. Elaine Asbury May 19, 1967 in Quincy, IL. She survives.
Surviving are two sons, Brad (wife Sheila) Horkstrom of Henderson, IL, Brian Horkstrom of Galesburg, IL, two daughters, Dawn (husband Dwren) Boston of Galva, IL, and Janet Horkstrom of Aledo, IL, one sister Barbara (husband Lewis) Rotz of Wyanette, IL and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Eugene Horkstrom.
He worked for the former Admiral Manufacturing Co. from 1957 to 1966 then the former Gale Products Outboard Marine Co. from 1966 to 1983 and then Adams Pressed Metals from 1984 to 2004, all in Galesburg, IL.
He is an US Army veteran for two years stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. He is a 1957 Galesburg High graduate.
Funeral service will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Eleanor Landon officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 – 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Robert A. Garrett, Galesburg Chapel

49, of 71 Garfield Ave. Galesburg, died 5:05 PM Wednesday December 21, 2005 at his home of natural causes.
He was born April 4, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA, to B.C. and Irma Matson Garrett.
Surviving is a sister Debi (husband Kent) Halstead of Whittier, CA a niece Keri Anfinson of Fullerton, CA, a nephew Kyle Halstead of Whittier, CA and an aunt Nola (husband Frank) Bloom of Galesburg.
Robert worked in the Dick Blick warehouse in Galesburg. He was a former ski patrol, white water rafting and horseback trail guide in Colorado. He was a 1974 Whittier Christian High School graduate, Whittier, CA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg and its Choir. The family expresses gratitude to the Methodist Church for their unconditional love, support and guidance for Robert. They take great comfort in knowing Robert is in eternal peace with the Lord.
Cremation will be accorded with a memorial service at a later date at First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Carl F. Weber, Galesburg Chapel

Mr. Carl F. Weber age 81 of 239 S. Cherry St. Galesburg IL died at 8:16 AM Monday December 26, 2005 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born February 1, 1924 in Enid OK. He is preceded in death by his parents. He was the oldest of five children. He lived in Galesburg since 1979. He worked at KCCDD (Knox County Council for the Developmentally Disabled). He was very active in group activities. He enjoyed community participation and interacting with friends. He enjoyed music and singing. He was of the Protestant faith.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be 9-10 AM Wednesday at the chapel. Mr. Robert J. Whitenack, Abingdon Chapel

71, 205 W. Pearl St. died at 6:15 am Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born June 21, 1934 in Media, IL to S.H. and Clara Marie Day Whitenack. He married Rebecca McDermet on September 27, 1959 in Abingdon. She survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth (and Dr. Robert) Mitzel of North Naples, FL and Gladys Barstow of Grand Junction, CO; nieces and nephews.
He moved to Abingdon in 1949. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. He owned and operated Whitenack Tire Service in Abingdon for 25 years retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Group.
He enjoyed gardening and working around his home.
Services will be at 1:00 pm Friday at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 pm Friday at the church.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grace DeClifford Yoho Hartmann, Abingdon Chapel

98 of 710 N. Main St. and formerly of San Clemente, CA, died at 12:45 pm Saturday, December 17, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born April 20, 1907 in Long Island, NY to Spencer Johnstone, a Navy captain and Madge Pabst of the Pabst Brewing Company empire. She married Ervin John “Ed” Yoho in 1931 in California. She later married Arthur Hartmann in 1938. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Lloyd (and Joanne) Yoho of Abingdon; 2 grandsons, Mitch Yoho and Matt Yoho, both of Abingdon; 4 great grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Rylie and Ryder; 1 great-great grandson, Tyrail.
She moved to California at the age of 4, where she would spend the next 90 years. She moved back to Abingdon 5 years ago and made her home with her son and daughter-in-law.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Abingdon.
During her lifetime, she had the good fortune of being friends with such people as John Wayne, James Arness and Zane Gray as well as many producers and directors.
In her younger years she was a bookkeeper for Ralph’s Grocers in California.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. M. Annette Faull will officiate. Visitation will from 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Abingdon First Congregational Church.

Miss Esther M. Swanson, Galesburg Chapel

98, of 800 N. Market St., Knoxville, IL died at 8:45 PM Monday December 19, 2005 in Knox County Nursing Home Knoxville.
She was born November 5, 1907 in London Mills, IL the daughter of Olaf R. and Emma Burg Swanson.
She is survived by one sister, Bertha Staggs in Avon, IL and two nephews, Harold (wife Carol) Hawkinson and David (wife Janice) Hawkinson, both of Galesburg, IL. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Nellie Hawkinson.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Wataga, IL. She was very active in her church.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Wednesday December 21, 2005 in Westfall Cemetery, near Victoria, IL. The Rev. Jill Vivroux will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga or the Knox County Nursing Home.

Miss Gertrude (Gertie) McAvoy, Galesburg Chapel

83, 239 S. Cherry St., Galesburg died at 12:51 PM Thursday, December 15, 2005 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born February 13, 1922 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Helen Roache McAvoy.
She is survived by a brother, Robert (and Judith) McAvoy, Las Vegas, NV and 3 nieces, Jackie (and Ben) Withey and Tammy (and Michael) Gehlen, both of Las Vegas and Jackie Whitby, Haines City, FL. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
She attended KCCDD and was a resident of St. Mary’s Square since 1980. She was of the Catholic faith and attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Funeral will be 10 AM Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 10 AM Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Square.

Mrs. Delores Betts, Galesburg Chapel

76, 1640 Oriole Drive, died at 6:55 PM Thursday, December 15, 2005 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born August 26, 1929 in Maquon, IL, the daughter of Deane and Audlea Donaldson Utsler, Sr. She married Alfred “Bud” Betts on March 6, 1948 in Knoxville, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, Dean (and Kristi) Betts, Galesburg, 2 daughters, Sharon (and John) Bainter, Galesburg and Donna Lefler, Toulon, IL, a brother, Deane (and Betty) Utsler, Jr., Kansas City, KS, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
She was a beautician, working at the former Kut-N-Kurl for 44 years. She retired in 1992.
She graduated from Maquon High School in 1947 and moved to Galesburg in 1948. She was a member of the Wataga Congregational Church, Wataga, IL.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. John Lefler, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Wataga Congregational Church.

Mrs. Marie Watkins, Abingdon Chapel

, 88, 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt. 201, formerly of RR London Mills, died at 12:45 pm Friday, December 16, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on November 9, 1917 in Abingdon to Charles Ralph and Lillian Estella George Edmonson. She married Lloyd H. “Toy” Watkins in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1995.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Smith of Moline, IL; 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Theda Landon of Galesburg.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son-n-law, Bernard Smith, 1 granddaughter, Jane Clapp and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
She had lived in Abingdon since 1996 and prior to that near London Mills.
Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Tuesday at the chapel.

Mr. Kenneth G. “Jerry” Cook, Galesburg Chapel

58, 1384 N. Henderson St., Galesburg died at 9:45 AM Monday, December 19, 2005 at home.
He was born October 6, 1947 in Hillsdale, Michigan, the son of Kenneth Wier and Dorothy Bridges Cook. He married Mary K. Millen in Oklahoma in 1981. He later married Marilyn J. Green on January 2, 2001 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Eva Ernestine Drain, Galesburg, 2 step daughters, Michele Nelson, Galesburg and Emily Lovell, Navarre, Florida, 6 step grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ronald Cook, Las Vegas, Nev. and Michael Cook, Lacy, Washington, 4 sisters, Kathryn (and Steve) Venescio and Beverly Potter, both of Snow Flake, Arizona, Jane Anne Gonzales, Lacy, Washington, and Lori Cook, Drumwood, Oklahoma, and a special cousin, David Coates, Lacy, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a truck driver since 1981, last working for Arnold Transportation out of Jacksonville, Florida for 5 years. He stopped working in August of 2004 due to health problems. He had lived in Clovis and Fresno, California, Little Rock, Arkansas for 11 years, and in Galesburg since 1992. He graduated from Clovis High School and Little Rock Vocational School. He was a member of the Alma Christian Church in Alma, Arkansas and its church foundation.
He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services and burial of cremated remains with military rites will be announced in the spring of 2006. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
