81, of Battle Ground, WA, formerly of Galesburg, IL died Saturday May 6, 2006 in Battle Ground.
She was born August 20, 1924 in Williamsfield, IL the daughter of Oscar and Minnie King. She married Harry N. Powell on September 8, 1947 in Galesburg. Je preceded her in death September of 1999.
She is survived by three daughters, Cathy Parrish and Wendy Middlewood, both of Battle Ground, and Melissa Powell of Fresno, CA, one son, Richard (Dick) Powell of Woodward, OK, and one brother, James King of Grants Pass, OR. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Williamsfield High School, Williamsfield, IL.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Galesburg. She worked for Hawthorn Drug Store and then Clark Drug Store as a sales clerk until she retired.
Nelda loved sewing, knitting, crafts and reading. She also loved her various cats and dogs she had during her life.
Memorial graveside services will be Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 2:00 PM in East Linwood Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

84 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 6:15 pm Friday, May 26, 2006 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born on June 25, 1921 in Doniphan, MO to James Boyd and Lovie Louise Briggs Smith. He married Juanita Bennett in 1941. He later married Beverly June Smith Owings on October 17, 1958 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1993.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son – Jimmy Smith, one grandson, one brother and one sister.
Surviving are three sons, Bobby Joe Smith of Oregon, Jerry E. Smith of Chickasaw, AL and Ted Smith of South Roxana, IL; six daughters, Pat Campbell of Galesburg, Kathryn Spitzig of Cameron, Shirley Bailey of Abingdon, Barbara Carter and Lisa Wasowski both of Ocala, FL and Linda Crawford of Arcanum, OH; two stepsons, Larry Owings of Kansas City, MO and George Owings of Galesburg; one brother, Willis Smith of Berwick; five sisters, Millie Dennison, Maudie Jones, Martha Borghman, Margaret Miller and Marie Duckworth all on the west coast; 27 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
He had lived in Galesburg the past four years and prior to that had lived in Abingdon most of his life.
He had worked at the Abingdon Pottery, and formally was the elevator operator at the Knox County Courthouse, he worked as a custodian and school bus driver for the Abingdon School District and later owned the Smith Cleaning Service.
He was an Army veteran of WW II serving in the Philippines.
He enjoyed bingo, playing cards and fishing.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Cremation will be accorded following the prayer service. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family.

81 of RR Abingdon died at 7:55 am Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at OSF St Mary Medical Center ER.
He was born on July 25, 1924 near Abingdon on the family farm to Arlien and Lena Byram Meadows. He married Beulah Wilkins on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1948 at the Abingdon Christian Church. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, David Meadows of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Emily Meadows of Stevens Point, WI; one sister, Shirley (and Dean) Bradshaw of RR Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Jonathon and Megan Meadows, two brothers, Raymond and Bob Meadows.
He was a farmer and had lived in the Abingdon area all his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1942.
He was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg.
He enjoyed flying and was a licensed pilot and had co-owned airplanes with other local pilots.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 pm Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg. Rev. Daniel Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or Easter Seals Respite Camp.

She was born February 21, 1922 in Bowling Green, MO, the daughter of Randolph B. and Ruth Shelton Wheeler, Sr. She married Kenneth Davis on December 31, 1955 in Galesburg.
She is survived by a brother, Randolph L. (and Susan) Wheeler, Jr., Louisville, KY, a sister, Imogene Allen, Galesburg, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She had a long office career. She was the secretary to the Chairman of the Division of Humanities at the University of Illinois-Galesburg Division from 1946 to 1948, secretary to the Business Manager of the Fiscal Office of the Galesburg State Research Hospital from 1950 to 1956, secretary to the Director of the Division of School Health and Division of Maternal and Child Health at the Louisville and Jefferson County Department of Health in Louisville, KY from 1958 to 1963, a field social worker for the State of Kentucky, Division of Public Assistance in Louisville in 1964, was a substitute teacher for the Louisville Board of Education from 1969 to 1975, an office assistant at the Carver Community Center in Galesburg from 1977 to 1980, a client records clerk for the Spoon River Community Mental Health Center in Galesburg from 1980 to 1981, and a receptionist and clerk typist for West Central Illinois Legal Assistance in Galesburg from 1986 to 1991.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1939. She attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, Roosevelt College in Chicago and the University of Louisville.
She had lived in Louisville for 20 years and returned to Galesburg in 1976. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of Drifters Incorporated in Louisville, KY.

She was born July 8, 1953 in Iron Mountain, MI the daughter of James and Karina May Peterson Wilder. She married Cruz Ramos in Chicago in 1983.
She is survived by her mother and step father, Karina and Dean Brodie of Galesburg, one son, David Ramos at home, one daughter, Hilary Ramos at home, one step son, Anibal “Al” Ramos of AZ, one sister, Carol Goodroe of Oak Ridge, TN, four half brothers, Paul, Derrick, Jim, and Michael, five half sisters, Rhonda, Shirley, Janet, Janice, and Pamela, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her father.
She graduated from Galesburg High School at midterm in 1970. She attended the Students Art League in New York City. Prior to marriage she was a student artist in New York, working and living in Gramercy Park. Many of her works have appeared in various art fairs. She worked for the National Arts Club and the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, both in New York City. After returning to Galesburg, she worked for Walden Books. She was active with the Prairie Players Civic Theatre. As a child she was involved with the Girl Scouts. She was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 AM Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center.

He was born January 1, 1918 in Chillicothe, IL to Edward P. and Clara Buster Howard. He married Helen V. Hornbek January 1, 1954 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death November 20, 1991. He later married Drusilla Friend February 5, 1999 in Galesburg. She survives.
Surviving are 2 daughters Peggy (husband Richard) Thompson of Chillicothe, IL and Penny (husband Mark) Wiechert of Galesburg, a step son Warren Tim (wife Carabeth) Benson of Galesburg, several step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a step daughter.
He was a lineman for the former Admiral Manufacturing Company and later worked for the former Outboard Marine Corporation Gale Products Division both in Galesburg. He was a US Army and a US Air Force Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial graveside service will be 1:30 PM Thursday May 25, 2006 at East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg with the Rev. Joseph Presley officiating. She was born October 6, 1949 in Galesburg, the daughter of Keith W. and Ilona E. Balzat Denly. She married Garry Allen Tadd. He survives.
Also surviving are her parents, Keith and Ilona Denly, Galesburg, a son, Jeffrey Thomas Jape, Parker, CO, a daughter, Theresa Marie Devers, Galesburg, a sister, Christa E. McDonald, Galesburg, and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra K. Denly.
She was a beautician in Galesburg and Oquawka and a CNA in Burlington, Iowa. She had also been a pharmaceutical assistant in Oquawka and a paramedic in Henderson County, IL.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967. She had lived most of her life in Galesburg and in Oquawka for 10 years, before moving to Texas.
Her body has been donated to science. Later this summer, her cremated remains will be scattered in the ocean off of Padre Island, TX. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

She was born on March 20, 1912 in Sunbeam, IL to Harry and Elsie Munson Stevens. She married Willard G. Snow June 3, 1936 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1966. She then married Ennesford Kelly in Springfield, IL on May 6, 1972. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1989.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Jean Pingle of Macomb, IL, a sister, Frances Kennelly of Galesburg, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew and care giver Dennis Kennelly of Galesburg and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
She managed the Washington Park Pavilion and was a manager and buyer at Myers Department Store in Springfield. She owned and operated Tancy’s Gift Shop in Macomb and was the communities North American Van Line agent.
She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. She also was a member of PEO, the Daughters of the American Revolution and lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Galesburg Chapter.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Maquon (IL) Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Bethel Baptist Church.

She was born September 6, 1919 in Galesburg, IL to Joseph E. and Judith J. Svensen Johnson. She married B.F. “Hank” Thompson February 2, 1939 in Rock Island, IL. She later married Walter “Mike” Davison November 1, 1959 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death December 6, 2001.
Surviving is a son Garry (wife Marion) Thompson of Farmersville, OH, a daughter Judith Thompson Randolph of Birmingham, AL a brother Dale Johnson of Clearwater, FL, a sister Dorothy Quigley of Ocala, FL, 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, a sister and a great-granddaughter.
She was a well known musician playing the piano and organ for big bands in the Galesburg area including the former Jumers, Harbor Lights, Augies and Broadview. She was a singer in the groups “Sweet Adelines” and “Melody Mrs.” and the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir. She gave piano lessons for several years. She retired in 1978. She was a 1937 Galesburg High graduate. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg since her confirmation at the age of 6. She was a life long member of the Musicians Union.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday May 24, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church music department.

He was born December 18, 1959 in Liverpool, England to Terrence and Rita Bellis Kermode. He married Cynthia Hare on September 1, 1984 in Viola, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Gavin Kermode and a daughter, Riannon Kermode, both at home, two sisters, Jane (husband Melvyn) Singleton of Burscough, England and Victoria Kermode of Stafford, England and his mother Rita Kermode of Burscough, England. He was preceded in death by his father in September of 2004.
Gary was an Agronomist for Inness Farm Supply, Galesburg, IL for 15 years and belonged to the American Society of Agronomy, Illinois Farm Bureau, Weed Science Society of America, and the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association. He received his Bachelor’s degree and his PhD from the University College of North Wales in Bangor. He was a member of Coldbrook Christian Church. He was a member of the Knox County Y.M.C.A. and the Quad Cities Cricket League. He was the Churchill Junior High School soccer coach in Galesburg.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday May 24, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Ek officiating. Friends may call beginning at 4 PM Tuesday at the chapel. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8 PM Tuesday evening at the chapel. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery. Memorials can be made to an education fund for his children.
