Mrs. Aileen A. Wenstrom, Galesburg Chapel

84, of 1883 Bluebird Dr., Galesburg, IL died at 6:28 AM Friday, October 27, 2006 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 20, 1922 in Galesburg the daughter of Floyd W. and Hazel Dollan Morgan. She married Allyn Greenman in 1959. He preceded her in death. She then married Kenneth Wenstrom on September 11, 1967 in Montella, WI. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mick (Marcia) Greenman of Rio, IL and Larry (and Sandie) Wenstrom of Galesburg; two daughters, Hazel Purdue of Virginia Beach, VA and Sandy Heck of Galesburg; one foster brother, Robert Dollan of New Windsor, IL, three grandchildren, five step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband and her parents.
She served in the Army Air Force during WWII.
She worked in the office of the Rock Island Arsenal for over 20 years. She graduated from New Windsor High School in 1939. She was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary within the Legion. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #880. She also was a volunteer at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30-8:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2006 at the chapel. Entombment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Mr. Walter E. Johnson, Galesburg Chapel

83, of 1172 Dayton Dr., Galesburg, IL died at 12:55 PM Friday, October 27, 2006 at his home.
He was born on July 1, 1923 in Warren County, IL to Oscar R. and Ethel M. Johnson Johnson. He married Lois M. Young in Galesburg on February 16, 1947. She survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Mary (and Bill) Rustemeyer of Normal, IL, Karen (and Mike) Tuthill of Knoxville, IL, Sue Simpson of Rio, IL, Joyce (and Danny) Stevens of Gilson, IL and Carol (and Jurgen) Kukuk of Galesburg; a sister, Marian Bailey of Alexis, IL, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, son-in-law and parents.
He farmed his entire life. He was a 1942 graduate of Alpha (IL) High School. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove, IL. He served on the Rio Township Board for 30 years, the Rio Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years and the Knox County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Board (ASCS) for 25 years. He was a 50 year member of the Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of the Flying Farmers. He was a member of the Knox County Extension Council, the Pork Producers, Livestock Feeders, Corn Growers Association and Soybean Association. He was a long time blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Leigh Nygard officiating. Mr. Charles L. Hoschek, Galesburg Chapel

58, of 1419 Road 9 East, Edgerton, WI, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at 12:05 PM Wednesday, October 25, 2006 in Edgerton Hospital.
He was born January 20, 1948 in Burlington, IA the son of Charles Edward and Betty Jane Kilgore Hoschek.
He is survived by four brothers, Jeff (and Joan) Hoschek of Knoxville, IL, Randy (and Jeanne) Conlon of Galesburg, M.R. Conlon of Chicago, IL and Carl Conlon of Knoxville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He served in the US Navy from 1968-1970.
He first worked for the former East Main Giants Grocery Store now Econo Foods as Assistant Manager for several years. He then worked as a route salesman for Frito Lay. He also worked for Office Specialists as manager and in sales in Monmouth. He currently was working as a conductor for AMTRAK for the last nine years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1966 and attended Black Hawk College. He lived in Galesburg most of his life and the past several years in Edgerton.
He was a member of the B.P.O.E Elks Lodge #894, the former Eagles Lodge, a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the V.F.W. #2257, a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved the outdoors.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Tom Heather will officiate. Mr. Marvin W. (Marv) Peck, Galesburg Chapel

75, of 1451 Hollycrest Circle, formerly of 425 E. Grove St., Galesburg, IL died at 5:40 PM Thursday October 26, 2006 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
He was born December 25, 1930 in Burlington, IA the son of Edward and Hazel Dirth Peck. He married Norma Holman on October 8, 1950 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Tom (Jaeleen) Peck, Galesburg and Larry W. (Sally) Peck, Durant, OK, one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Harter, Galesburg, one twin brother, Melvin (Bonnie) Peck, Tucson, AZ, and one sister, Mrs. Herb (Bonnie) Howell, Bakersfield, CA, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.
He owned and operated the A-1 Pest Control for 39 years, retiring in 2003. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1948, attended First United Methodist Church, was a member of F.O.E. in Oquawka, and a former AMBUC. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer, played fastpitch softball as a pitcher, was an avid duck hunter, and was a member of several bowling and pool leagues.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Monday October 30, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Mrs. Barbara Ann Mast, Galesburg Chapel

78, of 1464 N. Academy St., Galesburg died at 3:55 PM Wednesday October 25, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born May 13, 1928 in Warren County, IL the daughter of Elmer and Lois Fair Youngquist. She married Lyle L. Mast on January 27, 1951 in Pekin, IL. He died January 25, 1996.
She is survived by two sons, William (and Susan) Mast of Delaware, Ohio and Michael (and Christine) Mast of Huntersville, NC, one daughter, Patricia (and Rich Knight) Mast of Dublin, CA, two brothers, Gene (and Nancy) Youngquist of Cameron, IL and Frank (and Barbara) Youngquist of Rock Island, IL, two sisters, Marian Isaacson and Janice (and Larry) Candor, both of Galesburg, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Thomas Lyle Mast.
She was co-owner of Mast Construction Company. She was also a homemaker. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. She attended Augustana College and Western Illinois University. She was involved with GHS Band Parents for 12 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Marian A. Taylor, Galesburg Chapel

88, of 833 E. Fourth St., Galesburg, IL died at 10:10 PM Wednesday October 25, 2006 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born May 18, 1918 in Red Oak, IA the daughter of Carl Arthur and Judith R. Carlson Johnson. She married Clifford S. Taylor on November 29, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He died on August 21, 1983.
She is survived by one nephew, Gary Johnson, Cerritos, CA and Wilbur (Yvonne) Roos, Galesburg, who cared for her.
She worked as a secretary for several insurances offices. She has lived in Galesburg since 1939. She graduated from Red Oak High School and Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 AM Saturday October 28, 2006 in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Mrs. Ruth Cottom, Abingdon Chapel

97 a resident of the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, formerly of Galesburg and Maquon died at 11:15 pm Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the Knox County Nursing Home
She was born October 3, 1909 in Jackson County, IL near Campbell Hill to Denton Hubert and Bertha Mae Lively Williams. She married William M. Cottom on August 10, 1930 in southern Illinois . He preceded her in death in August of 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Doris Moore of Abingdon, Pat (and Jerry) Kruse of Rancho Mirage, CA and Joan (and Carl) Schisler of RR Galesburg; one brother, Gale R. (and Helen) Williams of Murphysboro, IL; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren and a special friend, Estel Polen of Gilson.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Humphreys and four brothers, Floyd, Archie, Glenn and Raymond Williams.
She grew up in southern Illinois and later moved to Monmouth in 1939. She and her husband moved to rural Maquon in 1941 where they farmed for 32 years, retiring in 1973 and moved into Maquon. She later moved to Galesburg in 2000 where she lived with her daughter until residing in the Knox County Nursing Home. She also worked at St. Mary’s Nursing Home and at Mel’s Red & White Grocery Store in Knoxville retiring from the grocery store in 1966.
She was a member of the Orange Chapel United Methodist Church near Gilson.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking gardening and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and families.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Dan Doty will officiate. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the chapel.

Mr. Donald K. Strand, Galesburg Chapel

91, 207 Potawatomi Road, Galesburg, died at 2:08 AM Saturday, October 21, 2006 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1915 in Monmouth, IL the son of Charles and Pearl Martin Strand. He married Enid K. Meadows on March 18, 1940 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Steven D. (and Candy) Strand, Clackamas, OR, 2 daughters, Vicki A. (and William) Johnson, Surprise, AZ and Susan K. (and W. John) Shane, Danville, IL, 3 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
He was president of Strand Wholesale Bakery for 25 years. He was also an insurance agent for Mass Mutual since 1963.
He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1934 and from Knox College in 1938. He received his Charter Life Underwriter designation in 1969. He was a Monmouth resident until moving to Galesburg in 1938.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a life and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was past president of the Galesburg Library Board, Western Illinois Library Systems, and the St. Mary’s Lay Board. He served on the original Downtown Council and the board of director’s at F & M Bank for several years. He also taught the Life Underwriter Training Class for several years. He helped organize the Galesburg Ambulance Service and served on its board.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10 AM Wednesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 5:30 PM Tuesday at the chapel. Private family burial of cremated remains will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Andrew T. Mullen, Galesburg Chapel

63, 635 W. Losey St., Galesburg, IL, formerly of Ottumwa, IA, went home to be with the Lord at 8:32 PM Thursday, October 19, 2006.
He was born October 25, 1942 in Ottumwa, the son of George Patrick and Winnie Olive Chadwick Mullen. He married Cynthia “Cindy” Blumer on March 7, 1970 in Ottumwa. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Scott (and Lindsay) Mullen, Moline, IL, 2 granddaughters, 3 sisters, Irene Livesay, St. Louis Park, MN and Helen Louise (and Frank) Cole and Caroline Jean Mullen, both of Sioux Falls, SD, a brother, George Wayne (and Janice) Mullen, North Carolina, his mother-in-law, Merlyn Blumer, Ottumwa, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law.
He worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN and Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg until they closed. He then was a delivery driver for Turner Pharmacy and Econofoods Pharmacy in Galesburg for several years. He then was a driver for Black Railroad Transit Service and currently for Renzenburger Railroad Service.
He graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
Andy was also involved with the ministry at the Galesburg Rescue Mission and with the Royal Rangers at the Assembly of God Church in Galesburg.
Graveside service will be 11 AM Tuesday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Ottumwa. The Rev. George Mullen will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. A dinner will follow the graveside service in Selix Hall at the First Pentecostal Church in Ottumwa for family and close friends. Memorials can be made to the family. 69, of 99 S. Whitesboro St., Galesburg, IL died 9:05 PM Thursday October 19, 2006 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born January 3, 1937 in Alton, IL to Eugene B. and Jesse V. Dean. She married Curtis J. Alexander March 16, 1957 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death December 12, 1998.
Surviving are three sons Tom Alexander of North Highlands, CA, Chris (wife Ronnette) Alexander of Washington, IA and Dean Alexander of Rantoul, IL; a daughter Lynn Hendricks of Galesburg, IL; a brother Eugene Lindley of Florida; two sisters Nancy (husband Andy) Anderson of Montrose, MN and Steffie (husband David) Carlson of San Jose, CA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg. She was a member of the women of the Moose and VFW Women’s Auxiliary both in Galesburg. She was a 1954 Galesburg High graduate and the reunion president for 50 years.
Cremation was accorded. Family will receive friends Saturday November 11, 2006 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Moose Lodge # 880 in Galesburg, IL. Memorials can be made to the family.
