Mrs. Julia M. Gilson, Galesburg Chapel

91, formerly of 15 Chestnut St., Galesburg, died at 11:42 PM Sunday, November 26, 2006 in Seminary Manor.
She was born May 18, 1915 in Browning, IL, the daughter of Homer H. and Edith Johnson Beam. She married Eugene M. Gilson of March 1, 1936 in Virginia, IL. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean H. (and Roy) Shumard, Galesburg, 3 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her long time companion, Marshall Mundy, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and one great granddaughter.
She worked in sales at Sear’s in Galesburg for 23 years. She retired in 1978. She graduated from Astoria High School, Astoria, IL. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was very active with the Sear’s Retirees Group. She was an avid reader.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Scott Grulke will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 PM Thursday at the chapel. Mr. Alan L. White, Galesburg Chapel

72, 867 N. Cherry St., Galesburg, died at 7 PM Sunday, November 26, 2006 at home.
He was born October 10, 1934 in Peoria, IL, the son of Irvin M. and Mildred Mehan White. He married Thela "Pete" Walker on April 1, 1957 in Palmyra, MO. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Bradley White, St. Louis, MO, a daughter, Lynn (and Steve) Schwab, Galesburg, and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and one sister.
He sold Health and Life Insurance for over 40 years. He retired in 1995.
He graduated from Lewistown (IL) High School in 1952. He attended First Church of God in Galesburg.
He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 in Korea.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10 AM Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Paul Bickel will officiate. Mr. Clarence Monroe Stiles, Galesburg Chapel

102, formerly of 876 Willard St., Galesburg died at 2:37 PM Wednesday November 22, 2006 in Heartland Health Care center.
He was born January 31, 1904 in Golden, MO the son of William B. and Dora Hill Stiles. He married Pauline Hisey in Cassville, MO on July 23, 1932. She died January 2, 1994.
He is survived by a brother, Ralph Stiles of Ripley, OK and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
He worked for the State of Illinois as an operating engineer at the former Galesburg Research Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He graduated from Cassville High School in 1926. He was a member of the First Christian Church, an elder emeritus, taught Sunday school, chaired the Outreach Committee and served on other committees.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Wednesday November 29, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. M.J. Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be 9-10 AM at the chapel. Mrs. Caroline I. Humphrey, Galesburg Chapel

65, of 801 W. Martin St., Abingdon, IL died at 3:42 AM Saturday, November 25, 2006 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on August 13, 1941 in Galesburg to Lawrence and Nellie Adcock Vance.
She is survived by her mother, Nellie Vance of Galesburg; a daughter, Connie Helms of Abingdon; two brothers, David Vance of Rock Island, IL and Kenneth (Doris) Vance of Galesburg; two sisters, Norma (William) Lucas of Alexis, IL and Alice (Charles) Osgood of Galesburg and three grandchildren. Also surviving is a son and a daughter. She was preceded in death by her father, two daughters, two brothers and a sister.
She was a homemaker.
Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, with Rev. Gary Bane officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.

Miss Margaret Mary Dressen, Galesburg Chapel

age 64 of 239 S. Cherry St., Galesburg died at 12:10 AM Friday November 24, 2006 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born April 21, 1942 in Chicago, the daughter of Edward and Margaret Colemen Dressen.
She is survived by one sister, Patricia Larsen of Eureka, CA and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers including her twin.
She lived in Dixon, IL from 1951 until moving to Galesburg in 1979. She worked for KCCDD. She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed going for walks, shopping and dining out.

89, of Knoxville, Iowa, formerly of 409 Burgland Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 4:25 AM Saturday, November 25, 2006 at West Ridge Nursing Home, Knoxville, Iowa.
She was born July 25, 1917 in Knox Co., IL to John and Mae Folger Fields. She married Lawrence Melton August 20, 1933 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Surviving is a son, William (wife Maxine) Melton of Galesburg, 2 daughters, Kay Irwin of Valparaiso, IN and Patsy (husband Gerald) Murphy of Knoxville, Iowa, a sister, Mary Fields of Truth or Consequences, NM, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and a sister.
She worked in retail for Sears and the former Belscot in Galesburg and retired in 1979. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

Mr. William F. (Bill) Johnson, Galesburg Chapel

43, 1287 Spruce Ave., Galesburg, died at 6:50 PM Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
He was born May 1, 1963 in Galesburg, the son of Wendell O. (Red) and Dolores A. Driffill Johnson. He married Debbie S. Howard-Bair on October 28, 1997 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents, “Red” and Dolores Johnson of Galesburg, a brother, Russ R. (and Kim) Johnson, Dekalb, IL, a sister, Linda D. Johnson, Galesburg, and several nieces and a nephew.
He was a truck driver for Eby Brown for 19 years. He was working at their Montgomery, IL facility, but had worked at the Galesburg facility prior to that. He lived in Galesburg all of his life and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1982. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 894. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and NASCAR.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11:30 AM Monday, November 27, 2006 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Mr. Robert Eugene Perry, Galesburg Chapel

78, 339 W. Losey St., Galesburg, died at 2:58 PM Wednesday November 22, 2006 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born September 8, 1928 in Timewell, IL the son of Elmer E. and Nellie Hendricks Perry. He married Ruth E. Vance in Mt. Sterling, IL on February 23, 1957. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Roberta (Dale) Johnson of Galesburg, Debra Williamson of Knoxville, IL and Pamela (Stuart) McNames of Baraboo, WI, two sisters, Betty (Charles) Gabriel of Galesburg and Marilyn Herren of Mt. Sterling six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Perry.

He served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during both WWII (Dec.-1945-Sept. 1946) and the Korean War (June 1948-June 1952). He served on the U.S.S. Sarasota APA 204, the U.S.S. Thomas Jefferson and the U.S.S. Kearsarge CU 33. While serving he toured Pearl Harbor, Hawaiin Islands, Guam, Phillipine Islands, Subic Bay and Manila on Luzon and Iloila on the Island of Panay, China, Shanghei and Tsingtao, Midway Island Pacific Ocean, the Panama Canal, Cuba, Japan, and Okinawa. He was the recipient of five service medals. While serving stateside he was a private driver for the Admiral.
He was a truck driver for Dohrn Transport after the Navy. He later drove for Burlington Trucklines until 1985 and Admiral Corporation until retirement in 1986. Upon his retirement, he drove a special education school bus for Galesburg C.U.S.D #205 for 13 years. He also drove the bus for the First Church of God for 5 years. He attended schools in the Brown County area. He was raised in Timewell and lived in Galesburg since 1952. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post #1059 in Timewell. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #627. He was a member of the First Church of God in Galesburg.
Funeral services are scheduled for 7 PM Sunday November 26, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Revs. Paul Bickel and Don Reynolds will officiate. Mrs. Frances L. Johnson, Galesburg Chapel

105, formerly of 733 S. Chambers St., Galesburg, IL died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at 4:25 PM Thursday, November 16, 2006 in the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
She was born June 15, 1901 in Fairview, IL, the daughter of Sam P. and Catherine Dougherty Camper. She married David E. Johnson on September 17, 1917 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1965.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary (and Malcolm) Briggs, Sun City, CA, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 33 great great grandchildren, and 11 great great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Johnson, 2 daughters, Phyllis Buck and Shirley Smith, a grandson, Gary Dooley, and 3 brothers and a special friend George Eacott.
She was a homemaker who had lived most of her life in Galesburg. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge 880 Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and the former Eagles Auxiliary.
She loved to play cards, but will always be fondly remembered for her quick wit, telling stories and singing her songs. Franny was loved by her family, friends, and the staff at the Knox County Nursing Home.
Funeral will be 1 PM Saturday, November 25, 2006 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 PM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.

Mr. Glen D. Pennington, Galesburg Chapel

59, of 1044 Roberts, Gilson, IL died at 4:40 AM Tuesday November 21, 2006 at his home.
He was born September 29, 1947 in Jonesboro, Arkansas the son of William and Charlene Moore Pennington. He married Linda Warren in Arkansas in 1967. He later married Barbara Nelson-Cooley on June 15, 1993 in Galesburg, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Lorrie Ramirez-residence unknown, Sherry (husband Tom) McMahon of Galesburg, and Jaime (husband Corey) Miner of Galesburg, two step daughters, Julie (husband Greg) Windsor of Galesburg and Kim (husband Marshall) Randolph of rural Monmouth, IL, one brother, John David Pennington of Arkansas, one sister, Glenda (husband Ron) Fowler of Memphis, TN, three grandchildren, and five step grandchildren.
He worked as a press operator for the former Maytag/Admiral Corporation for 33 years, retiring in 2000. He has lived in Galesburg since 1970. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He played pool for several leagues. He enjoyed fishing, camping and his time outdoors.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday November 25, 2006 in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate.
