80, 275 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, formerly of 400 Phillips St., Galesburg, died at 2:35 PM Friday, December 15, 2006 in Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born November 2, 1926 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Roy and Hope Bigham Wooldridge. She married Albert W. “Jack” Newburgh on December 24, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1989.
She is survived by 2 sons, Terry (and Alberta) Newburgh, Wataga, IL and Gary Newburgh, Niantic, CT, 3 daughters, Debby Newburgh, Tucson, AZ, Julie (and Rich Sefried) White, Galesburg, and Jennifer Hogsett, Dunlap, IL, a sister, Evelyn Abrahamson, Galesburg, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
She worked for many years in the cosmetic department of the former O.T. Johnson’s Department Store and then was a clerk at Anderson Cleaners for 10 years.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944. She was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday, December 30, 2006 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Ray Cameron will officiate. There will be no visitation. She was born on March 27, 1930 in Smithshire to George Barney and Cleo Ross Thomas. She married Ronald “Jack” Wherley on April 15, 1950 in the Congregational Church in Abingdon. He survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Suzanne (and Rod) Batson of Abingdon; four sons, Larry (and Judy) Wherley of RR Abingdon, Tom Wherley of RR Abingdon, Roger (and Joan) Wherley of Broken Arrow, OK and Richard (and Dana) Wherley of Eureka, IL; a brother, Gene (and Marge) Thomas of Smithshire; two sisters, Sue (Larry) Dean and Opal Stacker of Cameron; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Wherley, four brothers and one sister.
She grew up in the Smithshire area and graduated from Media High School.
She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm near Abingdon for 54 years.
She was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary, a member of the Abingdon Community Fall Festival Association. She also served as an election judge in Cedar Township.
She enjoyed china painting, fishing, gardening and eating last at family dinners.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

60, of Pilot Knob, MO, formerly of Knoxville died at 4:00 am Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at his home in Pilot Knob..
He was born September 14, 1946 in Galesburg, IL to Robert Dennis and Beulah Bell Bower. He married Paula L. Merideth in July of 1964. He later married June Mathews in 1996 at Eureka Springs, AR.
Surviving is his wife, June Mathews Bower; his father, Robert Bower of Abingdon, IL; a son, Robert Danny (and Linda) Bower, Jr. of Menifee, CA; a daughter, Robin Star (and Gary) Lishman of Burlington, IA; two stepsons, Scott Mathews of Galesburg and Rick (and Lori) Mathews of Knoxville; a stepdaughter, Becky (and Chris) Loveland of Ellisville; two brothers, David Bower in South Carolina and Terry Bower of Abingdon; a sister, Ruth Bower of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Jessie Bower Shultz; a grandchild, Dustin Dubois.
He had lived in Knoxville most of his life where he attended school. He also lived in California for six years and in Pilot Knob since 2003.
He served in the Army Special Forces for 4 years and was stationed in Korea and Vietnam and attained the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Church of God. He was also a member of Unchained Christian Motorcycle Club.
Services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel..
Memorials may be made to Hospice or American Lung Association.

He was born February 16, 1953 in Galesburg to Melvin and Vivian I. Larson Bronson. His mother preceded him in death March 4, 1994.
He is survived by his father of Galesburg, a sister Barbara (husband Thomas) Feeley of Bellville, IL a niece Sarah Feeley of Bellville, IL an uncle and 2 aunts.
He was worked in construction as a window glazer for 25 years. He has lived in Norfolk for the past 20 years. He graduated from Galesburg High in 1971. He was a member of Grace Church in Galesburg.
Private family graveside service will be Friday, December 29, 2006 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Father Thomas Janikowski will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 6 PM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society.

She was born on August 12, 1939 in Abingdon to Clyde K. and Hazel L. Meyers Peterson, Sr. She married David H. Courson on June 2, 1957 at the Abingdon Christian Church. He survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Kevin Courson of Denison, TX, Todd (and Amy) Courson of Maquon, Cary (and Diana) Courson of Battle Ground, WA, Dustin (and Kerry) Courson of Galesburg; one daughter, Julie Courson of Galesburg; 17 grandchildren including a granddaughter, Paelynne Courson who was raised in the home; 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Sally Housh, of Galesburg; two brothers, Donald (Linda Fry) Peterson of Monmouth and William (Ramona Sickles) Peterson of Abingdon;
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Rory Courson, two brothers, Gale Peterson and Clyde Peterson, Jr.
She had lived in the Abingdon area and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1957. She and her husband ran a dairy farm near Williamsfield for 38 years. She had lived in Galesburg the past 3 years.
She was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church.
She loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and craft work.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 pm Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Knoxville Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation with the family bu friends may call Thursday morning until noon at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

He was born March 25, 1953 in Galesburg the son of William R. and Ramona M. Herren Boydstun, Sr. He married Dorene Damm. He later married Ramona Kenny.
Surviving is his mother, Ramona Orozco of Galesburg; his father, William R. and step mother, Libby Boydstun, Sr., of Galesburg; 2 sons, William R. Boydstun III of Council Bluffs, IA and Benjamin (wife Ashley) Boydstun of Marshalltown, IA; 3 daughters, Lisa (husband Paul) Carlson of Neola, IA, Heather Boydstun of Bellevue, Nebraska and Chastity Babcock of Galesburg; a brother, Daniel Orozco of Galesburg; 3 sisters, B. Jane (husband Terry) Smith of Abingdon, IL, Judith Renee` Bohn of Maryland and Aurora Orozco of San Antonio, TX and 5 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his step father, Maximino Orozco.
He was a mechanic for 6 years. He lived in Knoxville and Avon, IL and in Council Bluffs, IA from 1975 to 1992. He had lived in Galesburg since 1992. He graduated from Knoxville (IL) High School in 1971. He was a member of Checkrow Community Church in Bushnell, IL. He served in the US Air Force for 6 years. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday December 27, 2006 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 – 10:30 AM Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Galesburg, IL with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was born on October 9, 1953 in Avon to Lloyd and Wanda Hillyer Hunter. He married Debbie Hunt on July 10, 1970 in Kahoka, MO. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Wanda Hunter of Abingdon; two sons, Rodney Hunter of Macomb and Adam Hunter of Bettendorf, IA; one daughter, Stacey (and Chris) McMahill of RR Gilson; 3 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister.
He had lived most of his life in the Abingdon area. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1971.
He was an independent contractor deliverer for the Peoria Journal Star and Galesburg Register Mail newspapers for 25 years.
H coached Little League Baseball and enjoyed fishing, working on his vehicles and spending time with his family.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Danny E. Hunt will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 4, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Ralph and Genevieve Smith Johnson. He married Lee Swan on August 2, 1946 in Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1996.
He is survived by 2 brothers, Roland (and Kay) Johnson, Galesburg and Max (and Marie) Johnson, Memphis, TN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory R. Johnson on March 22, 1973.
He was an insurance agent for over 40 years, first with Metropolitan Insurance Company and later with Howard Staggs Insurance. He retired in 1986.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and VFW Post 2257, both in Galesburg. He was an avid bowler on the senior citizen’s league.
He served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was B-25 pilot.
Funeral will be 10 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Steven Munson will officiate. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 PM Friday at the chapel. She was born July 9, 1925 in Richland, MO, the daughter of James A. and Ida Ervin Warren. She married Fred Reinschmidt on March 3, 1946 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2001.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Betty L. (and James H.) Nelson, Galesburg and Dorothy (and Daniel) Kaiser, San Mateo, CA, a brother, Harry Warren, Mt. Vernon, MO, a sister, Nelle Long, Jefferson City, MO, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
She worked for the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid for 15 years. She retired in 1985.
She graduated from Richland (MO) High School. She was a former member of the Violet Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Altrusa Club.
She served with the United States Waves during WWII.

She was born on September 1, 1929 in Havana, Cuba to Juan Dominguez and Alicia Morera Puentes Marrero. She came to the United States in 1958 and became a citizen soon after her arrival. She married Leslie I. McVey on June 17, 1961 in New York, NY. After her husband’s time in the Army was served they moved to Abingdon. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1986. After her husband’s death she moved to Galesburg and returned to Abingdon in 2004.
Surviving are two sons, Nick (and Sandra) McVey of RR St. Augustine and Steve “Irv” (and Kathy) McVey of Abingdon; one daughter, Shani McVey of Peoria; 4 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; a brother in Florida and a sister and brother in the country of Cuba.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She had worked at Maytag for 19 years and later worked for 7 years at the Wendy’s restaurant in Galesburg. She also assisted with the lunch programs at various Galesburg Schools.
She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.
Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
