Mr. Richard John Scott, Galesburg Chapel

60 of 938 N. Cherry St., Galesburg died at 11:30 AM Thursday January 25, 2007 at 565 W. Main St., Galesburg.
He was born November 6, 1946 in Galesburg the son of David Henry and Marie Frances Campbell Scott. He married Joyce Goodman on November 16, 1974 in Galesburg. He later married Connie Ross-Tucker on October 15, 1993 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa M. Scott (and Ben Harris) of Federal Way, WA and Kara L. Scott (and Jessie Oster) of Chicago, IL, two step daughters, Christine (and Robert) Miller, Galesburg and Stacia (and Michael) Miller, Clarksville, TN, two sisters, Alice K. Johnson of Galesburg and Jeanette (and James) Halter of Rockford, IL, Uncle Clement (and wife Ruth) Campbell of Pekin, IL, and five step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David M. Scott, and two sisters, Miriam A. Moran and Jacqueline L. Sexton.
He worked as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years, retiring in November of 2005. He was in the first class to go through eighth grade at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964. He was a member of the BNSF Union. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Wednesday January 31, 2007 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8 PM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Joseph A. Kannaley, Galesburg Chapel

76 of 1289 N. Cedar St., Galesburg died at 3:45 PM Friday January 26, 2007 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1930 in Newark, NJ the son of Joseph and Jean Nosti Kannaley. He married Dolores Bushert on January 3, 1953 in Newark. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (and Steven) Howard of Glasgow, KY and Roxanne Flesher of Westmont, IL, two sisters, Betty (and Joe) Smith of Landing, NJ and Erma Salvatore of Deltona, FL, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded n death by his parents and one brother, Edward Kannaley.
He served in the US Army for two years from 1947-1949 in Korea. He then served 21 years from 1951-1973 in the US Air Force as a Senior Master Sgt, serving tours in Korea, Thailand and three years in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star, among his 12 citations and ribbons. He retired in 1973. He had lived in Galesburg for 33 years. He graduated from Newark Vocational Technology in 1947. He worked for Kanartex Coatings, the United States Postal Service, and 12 years as a custodian for District #205, all in Galsburg. He retired in 1992. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was a member of the Retired Enlistee’s Association. He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Ted Gillum officiating. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday, January 29, 2007 at the chapel. Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Mr. James A. (Jimmy) Taylor, Sr., Galesburg Chapel

80, 260 S. Whitesboro St., Galesburg, died at 7:50 AM Saturday, January 20, 2007 at his home.
He was born May 26, 1926 in Galesburg the first of nine children of Berthol and Eugenia Green Taylor. He married Donna L. Bryant on July 23, 1950 in Galesburg. Four children were born of that union.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, James A. “Jim” (and Susan) Taylor, Jr., Galesburg, 3 daughters, Peggy M. Grey, Denver, CO, Lisa K. McClendon, Hawthorne, CA, and Tamara L. Taylor, Denver, CO, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, Marilyn Haynes, Elizabeth Taylor, Christine Haynes, and Shirley Wallace, all of Galesburg, and 2 brothers, Robert Taylor and William Taylor, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 nieces, and a wife, Betty from a second marriage.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed at John Roberts Field in Honolulu. He returned to Galesburg in June of 1946. He worked for Burlington Truck Lines until they experienced layoffs. He joined the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1971 as a brakeman. He was one of the first African-Americans hired for their Galesburg Division. He became an engineer in 1973 for the railroad and also for Amtrak. He was a recipient of the Amtrak “Engineer Award for Excellence”. He retired August 31, 1994. Jimmy will be remembered for his wonderful personality, kind smile, and generosity to others. He experienced great joy from spending time with his family and friends. He was a good father and provider for his family and was loved by people of all ages. He enjoyed nature and loved spending time outdoors fishing, gardening, bird watching, doing carpentry work, and tinkering and fixing anything that was broken. When asked about his garden, he said “I just love to see things grow”. Jimmy also had a passion for cooking. He would never let people leave his home without a care package that included something homegrown from his garden or freshly prepared from his kitchen. He also had a passion for cars. Brother Taylor was a member of Israel of God’s Church, W.H.A. Jimmy was loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral will be 1 PM Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Israel of God’s Church, W.H.A., 2147 Windish Drive, Galesburg, IL. The Rev. Harold Boyd will officiate. He was born March 25, 1985 in Peoria, IL the son of William Edward and Darson Marie Biddle Spencer.
He is survived by one son, Caleb Robert Spencer at home, his father, William E. (and Lorrie) Spencer, Jr. of Grand Junction, CO, two brothers, Levi Cordairo Biddle of Galesburg and William “Bill” Edward (and Nachole) Spencer of Naples, FL, his grandparents, Janet and Bill Spencer of Williamsfield, IL, grandmother, Barbara Rosner of Galesburg, grandfather, Dick (and Lynn) Biddle of Knoxville, IL and several cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Darson Marie Spencer in 1996.
He worked as a laborer for many years. He graduated from Galesburg High school in 2004. He attended Hope Wesleyan Church in Galesburg. He enjoyed fishing and art.

Mrs. Verla Forsee, Galesburg Chapel

95, formerly of 311 E. Simmons St., Galesburg, died at 1:13 AM Sunday, January 21, 2007 in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born October 1, 1911 in Williamsfield, IL, the daughter of Edward C. and A. Lorena Gale Cain. She married Robert H. Forsee on March 28, 1937 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1975.
She is survived by 6 nieces and nephews, Danny (and Jim) Gavin, Monmouth, RoseMary (and Harold) McKinney, Gladbrook, IA, Don (and Mary Ellen) Bevenour, Pekin, Jim Bevenour, Rolla, MO, Lois Jean (and John) Hanson, Galesburg, and Kathy (and David) Johnson, Galesburg, 22 great nieces and nephews, 36 great great nieces and nephews, and 6 great great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Crystle Bradshaw and Lois Bevenour, 2 nephews, 3 great nephews, and a great niece.
She was the manager of the Illinois Camera Shop for 20 years and then worked for the Lawrence D. Johnson Insurance Agency for 15 years. She retired in 1974.
She had lived in Galesburg since 1922 and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1928. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for Galesburg Cottage Hospital, where she volunteered for lifeline and made the newborn baby caps. She was a member of the Elkettes, was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and past Worthy High Priestess of the Bethel Shrine.
Funeral will be noon Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be 11 AM to noon Thursday at the chapel. She was born August 4, 1918 in Magnolia, IL, the daughter of Jesse and Anna Krueger Formhals. She married George W. Stegall on October 15, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1991. She married David R. “Bob” Linroth on May 11, 1996 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving is a step son, Ralph “Bud” (and Joyce) Linroth, Dahinda, IL, a step daughter, Mary Linroth Erwin, DeKalb, IL, a brother, Charles (and Donna) Formhals, Ledyard, CT, 2 sisters, Dorothy Roe, Bloomington, IL and Carole (and James) Sharpless, Fresno, CA, 3 step grandchildren, Melisa (and Chris) Hatch, Daniel (and De Anna) Linroth, and Joy Erwin, 5 step great grandchildren, Austin Hatch, Madalyn Hatch, Grayson Hatch, Emily Sebree, and Tristin Erwin, 6 nieces, Judith Roe, Bloomington, IL, Clarice Rudolph, Alsip, IL, Lizzette Roger, Parker, CO, Lana Boulard, Janet Burg, and Lynn Sarkisian, Fresno, CA and 3 nephews, David Formhals, Morton, IL, Mark Formhals, CT, and Duane Roe. She was preceded in death by a step grandson, Brian Erwin on October 25, 2006, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
She worked in the classified department of the Galesburg Register-Mail for 37 years, retiring in 1983.
She graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a 64 year member of East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Grace Marie (Jensen) Anderson, Abingdon Chapel

71 of Tampa, FL and Abingdon, IL died at 2:32 am Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL after a short illness.
Born May 4, 1935, in Galesburg, IL, she was the daughter of Maurice and Eleanor (Knudsen) Jensen. She and James N. Anderson were married on June 14th, 1958 in Galesburg, IL.
Surviving are her husband Jim of Abingdon and Tampa, FL; two sons Steven (and Suzanne) Anderson, grandchildren Natalie and David of Wheaton, IL; Eric (and Patricia) Anderson granddaughter Nicole of Wesley Chapel, FL. She is also survived by two sisters Elaine (and Don) Manworren of Dallas, TX, and Jeanette Vancil of Upland, CA.
Grace graduated from Galesburg High School and Knox College. She was a sister in Tri-Delta sorority, and was active in alumni affairs at Knox.
As a schoolteacher, Grace taught for many years in school districts in Illinois, Michigan, Delaware, and Florida.
Grace enjoyed living abroad in the Netherlands and Belgium as well as different places in the U.S. during Jim’s career in the plastics industry.
She attended The United Methodist Church of Abingdon, and was a member of bridge clubs and Lake Bracken Country Club.
Grace enjoyed the company of her husband Jim, her family and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, golf and skiing.
She battled cancer for many years. Her joyful spirit, love of life, positive attitude and endurance in the face of adversity are sources of inspiration to those who knew her.
Funeral service 11:00 am Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 am Wednesday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jane M. O’Brien, Galesburg Chapel

age 86 of 1384 N. Henderson St., Galesburg, IL died at 11:05 AM Saturday January 13, 2007 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born June 22, 1920 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Harry and Ethel Connors Mutsch. She married Frank J. O’Brien in Chicago on April 11, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1954.

She is survived by one daughter, Maureen (and Greg) Schierer of Galesburg, one sister, Grace Kalish of West Dundee, IL, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.

She worked as the office manager for A.G. Becker Investment Bankers in Chicago for 40 years, retiring in 1980. She lived in Chicago before moving to Galesburg in 2000. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1936 and Fox Secretarial College in Chicago. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday January 20, 2007 in All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. 79, Galesburg, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 in Ashton Place, Sarasota, FL.
He was born August 30, 1927 in Peoria, IL, the son of D. L. and Emma Ryan Graham. He married Lois M. Hanson on November 29, 1953 in Woodhull, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 4 daughters, Connie Graham, Lakeland, FL, Cynthia (and Mark) Spencer, Sarasota, Colleen Graham, Bradenton, FL, and Michele (and Brad) Nadborne, North Manchester, IN, a grandson, Sean Spencer, Sarasota, a granddaughter, Mia Nadborne, North Manchester, and a niece, Kathy Sayrs, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosamond Sayrs.
He was a retired brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945 and was a member of the GHS Basketball Hall of Fame. He attended Western Illinois University. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He was an avid sports fan.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was born March 31, 1921 in Mercer County, Illinois the son of James L. and Agnes Lory Downard. He married Ruby Jones in Columbia, SC on May 6, 1944.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Rose Morris, Galesburg and Nancy (and William) Randall, Woodhull, IL, two grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one half brother.
He attended Galesburg schools and worked for the CB & Q and Burlington Northern Railroads for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Galesburg Horse Shoe Club for 30 years, Galesburg Railroad Museum, and the Older Americans of Knox. He served in the United States Army in the Phillipines.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Saturday January 20, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the chapel.
