Mr. Donald D. Varnold, Galesburg Chapel

77, of 366 Ohio Ave. Galesburg, IL died 7:11 AM Sunday June 24, 2007 at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born July 24, 1929 in Maquon, IL to Ralph J. and Winona Baumeister Varnold. He married Joyce Joan Mahnesmith April 13, 1956 in Galesburg, IL. She preceded him in death December 3, 2004.
Surviving is a son Richard (wife Debbie) Varnold of Galesburg; 3 daughters Sue Bracken and Pam Bell of Galesburg and Mary Johnson (and Lee Brock) of Abingdon; a sister Lorene Hinckle of Moline, IL; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Ruth Ann Varnold in 1970, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Donald was a truck driver for Gunther Construction Company for over 30 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local # 627. He enjoyed working in his yard.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside ash committal service will be 10:30 AM Saturday June 30, 2007 in Wataga Cemetery with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 – 10:00 AM Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials can be made to Gordon Behrents Senior Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. James William Foutch, Galesburg Chapel

81, of 310 Belle View Ct., Galesburg, IL died at 4:15 AM Thursday, June 28, 2007 at his home.
He was born on July 2, 1925 to Denzil (Jim) and Martha N. Jacob Foutch. He married Jan Davis on August 30, 1964 in Peoria, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Foutch of Galesburg; two sons, David (and Barbara) Foutch of Daytona Beach, FL and Tom (and Merrie) Lee of Murphy, TX; three daughters, Julie (and Stewart) Galland of Coral Springs, FL, Keryl Bauer of Tucson, AZ and Cindy (and Jerry) Gunn of Metamora, IL; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert E. Foutch, a son, William Foutch, and a daughter, Jane Windsor.
He was the owner of the Steakhouse Restaurant in Galesburg for 17 years, retiring on October 1, 1995.
He was a 1943 graduate of Peoria (IL) Central High School and he attended Bradley University in Peoria. He served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. Elbert E. (Bud) DeWitt, Galesburg Chapel

92, of 213 Indiana Ave. Galesburg, died 1:45 AM Sunday June 24, 2007 at his home.
He was born July 29, 1914 in Bluffs, IL the son of Eugene and Della Peacock DeWitt. He married Thelma Oatman in 1938 in Batavia, IL. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1996.
He is survived by two sons, Bob (and Norma) DeWitt, Galesburg and Steve (and Dee) DeWitt, Wataga, IL, three daughters, Eleanor Grady, Decatur, IL, Becky (and Rex) Hepner, Wataga, IL, and Sharon Nelson, Galesburg, two brothers, Frank (and Joyce) DeWitt and Larry DeWitt, both of Washington, IL, two sisters, Eva Gilcrest, Canton, IL and Bernice Ricci in Florida, fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bud, Bill, J.D., and Junior DeWitt, two sisters, June Jones and Della Merna, and one great granddaughter.
He worked in the Forestry Department for Illinois Power Company as a foreman for 40 years retiring in 1979. He attended Bethany Baptist Church and was a past deacon. He served in the US Army for two years during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the 19th Infantry Division Association. He was a member of the I.B.E.W.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday June 28, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with Rev. John Carlson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:30-8 PM at the chapel. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Services conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Community Hospices of America.

Mrs. Gloria Clay, Galesburg Chapel

age 81 of 741 E. Berrien St., Galesburg, died at 6:15 PM Sunday June 24, 2007 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
She was born June 26, 1925 in Carthage IL the daughter of Carl and Ella Flesner Johnson. She married Robert J. Clay on June 26, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1995.
She is survived by two sons, Robert L. (and Jo) Clay and Richard W. (and Ginny) Clay, both of Galesburg, two daughters, L. Cheryl (and Rick) Aplin of Berwick, IL and Betty L. (and Merlin) Flesner of Golden, IL, one brother, Lester (and Marcella) Johnson of Galesburg, two sisters, Wenonah (and Willis) Smith of Berwick and Esther Vanloo of Scottsdale, AZ, three sisters-in-law, Illene Hopkins of Galesburg, Esther Clay, of Altona, IL, and Anna Clay of Knoxville, IL, nineteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother.
She was a waitress at the Green Diamond in Knoxville for 2 years and later worked at Howard Johnson’s in housekeeping in Galesburg. She also was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was very active in the local PTA.
Funeral services are 1:30 PM Thursday June 28, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Larsen and Mr. Tom Smith officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. 59, 275 E. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg, died at 9:15 AM Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born December 20, 1947 in Galesburg, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby M. Keith Evans. She married Keith Shaw.
She is survived by her mother, Ruby Kelley, Cameron, IL, a daughter, Becky Thompson, Galesburg, 2 sisters, Gloria (and Larry) Corbin, Cameron and Janet (and John) Folger, RR Galesburg, and 2 grandchildren, Spencer Thompson and Mia Thompson. She was preceded in death by her father.
She worked in food service at Knox College for many years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1966.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Mrs. Gloria J. Ratajczak, Abingdon Chapel

67 of 300 N. Jefferson St. Apt. 601 died at 3:35 am Saturday, June 23, 2007 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born on August 16, 1939 in Bushnell the daughter of Andrew and Bertha Faler Day. She married Paul Fecht. He preceded her in death in 1983. She later married Walter Ratajczak in 1986. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Surviving are one son, Joseph M. Fecht of Milan, IL, two grandchildren, Anthony and Breanna Fecht, her mother, Bertha Burgess of Abingdon, a brother, James (and Norma) Day of Galesburg, two sisters, Alberta “Maggie” (and Lee) Hanson of Knoxville and Vonneda (and Earl Kennon) Johnson of Abingdon, and a step brother, Samuel Burgess of Abingdon. She was also preceded in death by her father, her stepfather, Ronald Burgess and a sister, Roberta “Bobbie” Lankford.
She attended Avon Schools and graduated from United Township High School in East Moline. She owned and operated restaurants in Plano, Aurora, Avon, and Abingdon. She had lived in Aurora for many years and in Abingdon since 1986.
She attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon.
Graveside service will be 11 AM Wednesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Warren Cummins will officiate. There will be no visitation. 57, of 103 W. Palmer Ave. Alexis, Il. died Saturday June 23, 2007 at 7:37 AM at Cottage Hospital Galesburg, Il.
He was born May 31, 1950 in Fairbanks, Alaska the son of Glen William and Shirley Francis Lee Braden, Sr.. He married Connie Lee Peterson August 29, 1970 in Galesburg, Il.
He is survived by his wife, his parents Glen and Shirley Braden, Sr. of Galesburg, Il. three daughters Abby Lee (1st Lieutenant Matt) Wiles-Alexis, Il., Amber Lee (Marc) Muscarello-Sugar Land, Tx., Allison Lee (Steve) Whitcher-Moline, Il. one sister Susan Marie (Steve) Peterson-Knoxville, Il., four grandchildren Madyson Muscarello, Braden Muscarello, Ryan Whitcher, and Sullivan Wiles.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1968 and Olivet Nazarene University in 1972. He was Principal at Aledo Jr. High School Aledo, Il. from 1984-1999 and presently the Regional Superintendent of Schools for Henderson, Mercer, and Warren Counties.
He was a member of First Church of Nazarene, a member of Illinois School Principal Association, Illinois and National Education Association, Volunteer for Alexis Fire Department, and was a Team Leader for the National Organization of Victims Assistance and has made two trip to New York City to counsel victims of September 11, 2001
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday June 27, 2007 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg, Il. with the Rev. Ron Scarlett officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Mrs. Frances E. Ankeney, Galesburg Chapel

87, 1557 Willard St., Galesburg, died at 7:39 AM Thursday, June 21, 2007 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born October 22, 1919 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Charles E. and Cecelia Frogner Kilgore. She married Lester E. Ankeney on May 28, 1939 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1992.
She is survived by a son, Richard E. (and Cindy) Ankeney, Galesburg, a daughter, Carol (and Jerald) McQueen, Galesburg, a brother, Robert (and Virginia) Kilgore, Galesburg, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Kilgore and a sister, Betty Thurman.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from high school in Marshalltown, IA. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was also a member of the Order of Foresters. She had lived in Galesburg most of her married life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday, June 25, 2007 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. William Miller will officiate. He was born April 13, 1933 in Monmouth, Il. the son of Arthur and Mary Durham Ricketts. He married Betty L. Williams Patterson September 12, 1971 in Peoria, Il.
He is survived by his wife, two sons Robert Eugene (Onedea) Ricketts-Bear Creek, Al. and Arthur Wayne (Pam) Ricketts-Tx., two stepsons Samuel Brad (Elizabeth) Patterson-New Windsor, Il. and Mark Steven (Patsy) Patterson-Wataga, Il., one stepdaughter Tammy Dawn (John) Dykema-Deper, Wi. eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by on son Michael Dean Ricketts.
He was a foreman at Hiram-Walker Distillery in Peoria, Il. and retired in 1976. He was a member of the Oakwood Baptist in Phil Campbell, Al. He served in the Army for three years.

Mrs. Helen S. DeMott, Galesburg Chapel

91, of Galesburg, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 in Galesburg.
She was born April 23, 1915 in Chatham, NY, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Edna Frances Clark Sawyer. She married Lawrence L. DeMott on December 26, 1949 in Pittsfield, Mass. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret J. DeMott, Durham, NC. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Sawyer.
She worked for General Electric in the Transformer Engineering Division. She worked with Max Goodsill at Knox College on the Knox Directory and the Knox 50 Year Club.
She had lived in Galesburg since 1962. She graduated from Pittsfield, Mass. High School. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge, Mass. and attended First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. She was a member of the Hawthorne Club and the Knox 50 Year Club.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial service will be 10 AM Friday, June 22, 2007 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Parker will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial of cremated remains will be in Stockbridge Cemetery, Stockbridge, Mass.
