She was born on May 25, 1939 in Galesburg to Karl A. and Mildred M. Tuthill Sandburg. She married John W. Miller on June 29, 1958 in Carthage, IL. He survives.
Also surviving is her mother, Mildred M. Young of Galesburg; a son John A. “Tony” (and Susan) Miller of Galesburg; a daughter, Susan R. (and T.J.) McNaught of Galesburg; two sisters, Katherine (and Robert) Blackburn of Galesburg and Karen Moon of Franklin, VA; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
She worked in the former Belscot and Hornsby retail stores for many years. She was a member of the former Advent Christian Church. She bowled in various leagues and was a member of the Women of the Moose. She loved animals, sewing, beadwork and flowers.
She was a 1957 graduate of Galesburg High School. She lived in Galesburg her entire life.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 30, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Leroy Torres officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center or the Relay for Life.

80, 761 S. Chambers St., Galesburg, died at 12:40 AM Friday, July 27, 2007 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born November 7, 1926 in Anneta, KY, the son of Isaac and Mary Buster Van Meter. He married Nora Jacobs on August 22, 1948 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Jeff (and Melinda) Van Meter, Galesburg, a daughter, Chris (and Steve) Shaw, Abingdon, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Cynthia McLaren on January 20, 1995 and one sister.
He was a barber for 25 years at Punch and Pauls’ Barber Shop in Galesburg. He also worked in the paint shop and as a metal finisher at the former Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for 25 years. He retired in 1990.
He attended Biggsville High School. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local #2063. He was an avid racing fan, especially NASCAR and horseracing. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, hunting, and baseball. He also wrote poetry.
He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. 85, of 204 East St., Maquon, IL died at 2:28 AM Thursday July 26, 2007 in Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born September 17, 1921 near Herman, IL the daughter of Earl and Emma Tasker Combs. She married Merrill Owen on December 31, 1943 in Galesburg. He died in November 1985. She later married Claire R. Cooper on August 31, 1994 at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church, west of Maquon. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert (and Cindy) Owen of Maquon and Don (and Gwen) Owen of Maquon, one daughter, Kristy Owen of Galesburg, IL, three step sons, David Cooper of Nevada, Howard Cooper of Peoria, IL, and Perry (and Linda) Cooper of Yates City, IL, one step daughter, Connie (and Ron) Newton of Arkansas, one sister, Nellie Owen of Knoxville, IL, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She was a homemaker. She also helped run the family farm with her first husband. She lived in the Maquon area her entire life. She graduated from Fairview High School. She was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Good Cheer Ladies Club. She was a member of the Home Extension Club. She was an avid bowler and loved to fish.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday in Maquon Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Doty will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. He was born November 11, 1950 in Galesburg, the son of Daniel E. and Norma Jean Watters Van Fleet. He married Linda G. Carter on February 14, 1989 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Jeremiah Wilson, Liberal, KS, a daughter, Torie M. (and James) Johnson, London, KY, 2 brothers, David L. Van Fleet, Cedar Rapids, IA and Jeffrey M. (and Deneen) Van Fleet, East Galesburg, 3 sisters, Caroline D. (and James) Sitter, Galesburg, Rebecca J. Van Fleet, Princeton, MO, and Lynn S. (and Jeff) Miles, Cedar Rapids, and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked as an extruder at National Seal, was a bartender at Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 for several years, and most recently was a custodian at Carl Sandburg College. He had lived most of his life in Galesburg. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1968 and attended Carl Sandburg College. He was a member of Good News Baptist Church. He was also a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the 40 & 8.
He served in the United States Army for 3 years during the Vietnam War.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial service will be 10:30 AM Saturday in East Linwood Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Shriber will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by Ralph M. He was born October 11, 1940 in Galesburg to William and Fontella West Parmenter. He married Carol Hacker. He later married Bea Cooley. He then married Janet C. Hagerty on April 29, 1978 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are 4 sons, Todd Ash of Alexis, IL, and Zach Parmenter, Justin Parmenter and Nicholas Parmenter, all of Galesburg; 2 brothers, Roger (wife Mary Jane) Parmenter and Joseph (wife Barbara) Parmenter, both of Galesburg; 4 sisters, Katherine Monzo of Galesburg, Laura Clevenger of East Galesburg, Carol Cutts of Galesburg, and Colleen Cochran of Peoria, IL; 2 grandchildren, Brandon Parmenter and Addison Parmenter, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
He worked for the Billy Swanson Farm since he was 8 years old. He retired after 27 years as a business agent for the Labors International Union of North America Local # 538. He was secretary and treasurer for the Laborers International Union of North America Local # 538. He was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club. He was the leader and member of the band Howie “D” and the Crystals. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He attended the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Galesburg.

She was born April 4, 1908 in Galesburg, IL to Alvin S. and Katie E. Huntsinger Pratt.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Shirley L. (and Jeppie L.) Harris of Kirkwood, IL and Kathryn A. (and Robert J.) Vidimos of Schererville, IN, 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and a sister.
She was an assistant for the former Knox County Free Kindergarten Home for 43 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Galesburg.

55 of Ava, MO formerly of Abingdon died at 1:15 am Monday, July 23, 2007 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.
He was born to Corine Ayers on October 1, 1951 in Pasadena, CA.
John was a longtime resident of Abingdon, IL and Phoenix, AZ. He was a man of many talents and could fix about anything.
He worked for Abingdon Salvage for many years. He also worked as the head groundskeeper in Arizona for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers training camps. He most recently was employed by Wal-Mart where he worked for four years in London, OH.
He married Schelia Bowman on October 25 1969. They have been married for 37 years. She survives. To their marriage, five children were born, a son, Galen Ayers of Galesburg; four daughters, Genea Allen of Galesburg, Ginger Ayers of Iowa, Desiree Conrad of Ava, MO and Tessa West of Peoria, IL. He was blessed to be the proud grandpa of 14 grandchildren, who will all miss their grandpa very much.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Corine Ayers.
He will leave behind his family and friends that will deeply miss him, but never stop loving him or forget what he means to them.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

75, 145 S. Chamberlain St., Roseville, IL, died at 1:25 AM Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Roseville Country Manor.
He was born March 13, 1932 in Galesburg, the son of DeWayne A. and Hilder M. Swanson Drew Roselle.
He is survived by an uncle and aunt, Harold and June Beard of Roseville, an aunt, Helen Roselle of Ellisville, IL, and many cousins in the surrounding area. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Lulu “Dude” Beard Roselle, a brother, Robert Jack Roselle, and several aunts and uncles.
Dick loved to go fishing and always preferred a catfish dinner. He enjoyed family gatherings, including holiday and birthday celebrations, picnics, annual Easter egg hunts, and pumpkin picking parties in the fall.
Funeral will be 1 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Mr. Linden Beard will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 PM Monday at the chapel. She was born June 1, 1905 in Maquon, IL the daughter of George and Clara Darling Martin. She married Kermit A. Harden, Sr. in Kahoka, MO on January 25, 1925. He died on August 11, 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Kermit (and Ann) Harden, Jr. of Urbana, IL and Eldon (and Dorothy) Harden of Mesa, AZ, two daughters, Norma Mae Harden of Peoria, IL and Margaret Ann (and George) Van Houten of Belle Vista, Arkansas, two sisters, Margaret Cecil of Maquon and Eva (and Mick) Davidson of Rock Island, IL, six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, and one son, Gordon Andrew Harden.
She was a homemaker. She had lived in the Fairview and Gilson areas for many years and in Galesburg since 1981. She was a member of the Knoxville First United Presbyterian Church. She was a former member and did volunteer work for the Fairview Reformed Church in Fairview, IL.

He was born January 27, 1958 in Galesburg, the son of John and Anni L. Fuchs Bogulski. He married Linda Allen in August of 1981 in Ft. Madison, IA.
He is survived by a son, John Bogulski, Iowa City, IA, a daughter, Cari Bogulski, Fayetteville, AR, a sister, Nancy (and Jack) Dillon, Edgerton, WI, one niece, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a social worker for 20 years, working for the Illinois Department of Human Services in Peoria and most recently for the Iowa Department of Human Services in Davenport.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1976 and attended Knox College for 1 year. He graduated from Drake University in 1980.
He was a member of the American Softball Association of Umpires. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing and watching all sports.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Thursday in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
