
81, 1258 Maple Ave., Galesburg, died at 10:35 PM Sunday, August 26, 2007 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1925 in Witt, Ill., the son of Barney and Mabel Myers Donaldson. He moved to Galesburg in 1939 and lived here since then, with the exception of 11 years in Omaha, Neb. He was married to Phyllis D. Baars on September 19, 1948 at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg by the Rev. Leman Olsenius.
His wife survives, along with a sister-in-law, Mary L. Lawson, whose help was deeply involved in his fight against cancer along with a good friend, Charles Beadles, whose help and support is without comparison. He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Donaldson and two sisters, Mary Jane Oakman and Barbara Jeanette Rice.
He was of the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and attended the University of Illinois for a brief period. He served in the United States Coast Guard for 3 years during WWII.
His career was comprised of representation to manufacturers of large farm and commercial buildings. After retirement, he worked for Protexall for 3 years and then sold real estate for Knox Realtors for five years. He enjoyed golf and bowling, and he loved his dog.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 7:30 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation with burial of cremated remains at a later date. 47 of Bremerton, WA passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007 at his home of natural causes.
Surviving are his mother, Karen Senf of Burlington, IA; his father, Terry (and Janice) Simpson of Abingdon; his brother, Greg (and Vickey) Simpson of Burlington, IA; his daughters, Star of Heartwell, NE and Laura of Colorado.
He spent a lot of time in London Mills and Abingdon while growing up. He attended Burlington schools.
Cremation was accorded. Graveside service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of announcements for the family.

84, of 1339 Knox Hwy 25, Galesburg, IL died at 6 PM Saturday August 25, 2007 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1923 in Youngstown, IL the son of Irwin and Emily A. Nordgren Watt. He married Frances M. Emstrom in Galesburg on November 24, 1951. She survives.
He worked as a dairy farmer for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. He was a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader for several years. He was a caregiver for Henry Inness for 6 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he and his wife made the communion bread for several years. They also enjoyed making candies for friends.
Cremation will be accorded. There will be no visitation. Graveside services to be held at a later date in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Galesburg Rescue Mission. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. She was born March 29, 1956 in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of Harold Charles and Kathleen Mildred Capps Groel, Sr.
She is survived by a daughter, Amanda Nicole Johnson, Galesburg, 2 brothers, John Charles Groel and Harold Charles Groel, Jr., both of Creve Coeur, IL, 2 sisters, Robin Lee Allen and Kathy Ann Brown, both of Gainesboro, TN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She worked for Hollander Home Fashions in computer programming, at Scripps-Howard Publishing, and at Meadowlands Horse Track, all in New Jersey. Most recently she worked as a home daycare provider.
She had lived in Galesburg since 1993. She attended Carl Sandburg College and was a member of Prairieland Baptist Church.

She was born May 12, 1913 in Hermon, IL to Herschel D. and Jennie Brown Watkins. She married Thomas McCullum July 5, 1936 in Bushnell, IL. He preceded her in death in 1945. She later married Carl M. Smith in 1951 in Palmyra, MO. Surviving are 2 sons – Joseph L. (wife Patty) Smith and Thomas R. (wife Karol) Smith both of Galesburg, a daughter Jo Ann Johnson of Galesburg, 2 brothers – Junier (wife Lena) Watkins and Duane (wife Carol) Watkins both of London Mills, IL, a sister Rosalee Moore of Galesburg, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
She worked for the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Company in Abingdon. She worked for the former Americana Nursing Home in Galesburg. She then worked for Protexall, Inc. in Galesburg.

67, of RR Abingdon died at 6:40 pm Sunday, August 19, 2007 at his home.
He was born on November 2, 1939 in LaHarpe to Elmer and Ada Mohr Glisan. He married Joyce Haley. He later married Janet Huls.
Leon is survived by his children, Debbie Schoaff of Macomb, Becky and Mark Monier of Kentucky, Tammy and Rick Potts of Abingdon, Tim Glisan of Mount Sterling, Teresa and Travis Smith of Carthage and Terry Glisan of Carthage; 21 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; five brothers, Richard and Vicki Glisan of Galesburg, Charles and Ina Glisan of Avon, Ed and Patsy Glisan of Abingdon, Wayne and Cheryl Glisan of Galva and LaVerne and Sandy Glisan of RR Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
Leon worked at Admiral Company in Galesburg. he also was a truck driver and farmer. He enjoyed tending his livestock and taking care of his farm equipment.
He was baptized in the LaHarpe Christian Church.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

65 of Fairmont City, IL and formerly of the Abingdon area died at 2:53 pm Friday, August 17, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
She was born on April 15, 1942 in Galesburg to Lee A. and Sarah Switzer Poulson. She married Andell Allen. He preceded her in death. She married William “Bill” Dowler on December 29, 1979 in Collinsville. He survives.
She is also survived by a son, Daniel MacDee Allen, Sr. of Caseyville; 2 grandchildren; her sisters, Ann Boyer, Amy Atchison and Sally Anderson, Nancy West, Ethel Clark, Mary Hensley & Diana Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rex and Dale.
She was raised in Warren County. She last worked in the activity department at a nursing home in Maryville. She had lived in the Fairmont City area since 1977 and prior to that had lived in the Galesburg and Abingdon areas. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church.
She enjoyed making crafts.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on October 25, 1959 in Galesburg to Richard and Jeannie Hager Aplin.
Lace is survived by five daughters, Jamie Kae Collins (and Sam) of Belvidere, IL, Elizabeth Williams Neace (and Chris)of Carson City, NV, Salina Aplin Gorman (and Dustin) , Elizabeth Anne Aplin Murdock (and Micheal) and Rose Aplin Murdock all of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Jake Aplin Gorman (and Sandra) and Steven Aplin Applegate both of Monmouth, IL; two brothers, Mike (and Carol) Aplin of RR Abingdon, IL and Rick (and Cheryl) Aplin of RR Berwick, IL; 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She had lived in Monmouth the past seven years. Prior to that, she had made her home in Galesburg, Abingdon, Williamsfield and Las Vegas, NV.
She was a homemaker who loved being a mother and grandmother. Music was the heartbeat of her life and family. Lace was a generous giver who opened her heart and home to anyone who needed it.
Cremation was accorded. A Remembrance Celebration will be held beginning at 4:00 pm Sunday, August 19th, at Monmouth Park, North 11th St., Monmouth, IL. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

89, of Galesburg, IL died at 7:30 PM Tuesday August 14, 2007, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born June 20, 1918, in the County of Henderson in Rosetta Township, Illinois the only son of Claude Jacob and Nellie Gertrude Maxwell Stubbs. He married Mary Francis Sherriff on June 27, 1942 in Sharon, PA. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Charles (wife Kathy) Stubbs of Fripp Island, SC, Gerald (wife Diane) Stubbs and Donald (wife Di) Stubbs, both of Gambrills, MD, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Max graduated from Galesburg High School in 1936 and Knox College in 1940, where he majored in the social sciences and participated in the ROTC program. In June of 1940 he was commissioned and ordered to active duty where he was assigned to Selfridge Field. In 1942 he joined the 34th Squadron and participated in its move from Australia to Taloki in New Guinea. In May 1943, he served as the original group supply officer for the 475th Fighter group. It was during this assignment that he shared tent space with Charles Lindburgh and his commanding officer, Charles H. McDonald, a top fighter pilot in WWII. Max and his family served at many Air Force locations in his thirty-year career. Their last overseas tour was in Japan where Col. Stubbs served as Chief of Staff of the 5th Air Force and was involved in the US response to the seizure of the Pueblo. He retired from the Air Force on February 1, 1970 after 30 years of service. In retirement, Max managed the family farm in Rosetta Township.
He received the following awards and honors: the Legion of Merit with 3 Oak Leaf clusters; the Bronze Star for valor; the Army and Air Force Commendation Medals; the Phillippine liberation medal; the Pacific Campaign medal; the American Defense Service medal; the American Camp medal; the DUC with 4 Oak Leaf Cluster; and the WWII Victory medal.
He was a member of the V.F.W. #2257 and a former President of the Air Force Association. He was also member of the Knox 50 Year Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday August 18, 2007 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday August 17, 2007 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. She was born on April 19, 1947 in Galesburg to Floreine Schisler. She married Hubert L. Lynch. He survives.
She graduated from Knoxville High School.
Sheila last worked for the Galesburg Register-Mail in the Ad Department before becoming disabled.
She was a member of Star Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Galesburg.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with a prayer service at 1:00 pm led by Rev. Lugene Finley. Cremation will be accorded following the prayer service.
