86 of Macomb and formerly of Abingdon died at 11:00 am Sunday, January 27, 2008 at The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb. She had lived in Macomb since 1992.
Her funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 30 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, 206 N. Washington St., Abingdon. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
She was born on July 31, 1921 in rural Camden, Schuyler County, IL to Edd and Helen Hume Royer. She married Carrol W. Butterfield on March 1, 1941 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1986.
Wilma had lived most of her life in Abingdon. She worked in Abingdon at the Blue Bell Company before her marriage and then from 1953 until it closed. She then worked for Fey’s Processing until her retirement. Wilma was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Ed and Sharon of Rock Island, IL, Mel and Brenda of Quincy, IL, Bill and Zennie of Salt Lake City, IT, Cliff of Aniwa, WI and Chuck and Janice of Colchester, IL; two brothers and their wives, Kermit and Delores of Groveland, IL and Larry and Diana of Numa, IA. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death also by her parents and a brother, Richard and a daughter-in-law, Janet.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, The Elms Nursing Home, McDonough District Hospital Hospice Care or a charity of the donor’s choice.

79, of 806 W. Monmouth St. died at 5:30 pm Monday, January 21, 2008 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born on August 15, 1928 near Lake Bracken on the family farm to Frederick O. and Cora Jane Skinner Kjellander. He married Bernice Ann Fahlund on July 19, 1957 in Knoxville. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Walter Kjellander of Roseville, MN; two daughters, Katherine (and Daniel) Kjellander Dare of Avon and Karen Kjellander of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Michelle and Eric Dare of Avon; a brother, Francis (and Gwen) Kjellander of Leesburg, FL; a sister, Ruth (and Rollie) Kjellander Lawson Nordgren of Edinburg, TX; a sister-in-law, Mary Newton Kjellander of Garden City, ID and several nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Glenn Kjellander and Robert Kjellander and a sister, Hazel Kjellander Wick.
He was raised in the Abingdon area and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1946.
He retired from Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon after working for 50 years. He started in the sliphouse, later became a caster and last worked in the shipping department.
He served in the Army for two years during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Japan.
He coached in the Little League and Pony League baseball programs at the Abingdon Ball Park for many years.
He enjoyed football, baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing. He golfed and played men’s softball in his early years. He also enjoyed putting in his big garden.
He loved to read books and also write his opinions in the Register-Mail. He loved to talk politics.
He was of the Protestant faith. He attended the Abingdon United Methodist Church, where he went to Sunday School and church for many years.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Inurnment will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at their home, 806 W. Monmouth St. in Abingdon. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements for the family.

87 of 4325 Maple Dr., Galesburg died at 9:05 AM Tuesday January 22, 2008 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1920 in Weldon, IL the son of Robert and Grace Polen Berkley. He married Sandra A. Gould in New York on January 25, 1964. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1998.
He is survived by three daughters, Amy (and Phillip) Berkley-Ellis of London, England, Rita (and Dietrich) Berkley-Smith of Gays Mills, WI, and Laura (and Dwayne) Berkley- Krisko of Farnham Surrey, England; one brother, Robert (and Barbara) Berkley of Eugene, Oregon, and seven grandchildren Lucy, Rowan, Jessica, Eloise, James, Ruby and Frederick. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and four sisters.
He served in the Illinois National Guard during WWII.
He was a high school English teacher at the Oak Park/River Forest High School for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High school. He attended Thorton Junior College in Harvey, IL and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. He later received his Masters of Divinity at the Episcopal Seminary in Mundelein, IL. He did additional studies at Harvard University. He was on the Board of Directors for Pine Mountain Music Festival in Hancock, MI and he was a member of the Gladstone Yacht Club in Gladstone, MI. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 AM Tuesday January 29, 2008 in St. Patricks Catholic Church. The Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation will be ½ hour prior to Mass at the church. Private family burial will be at a later date in Weldon Cemetery, Weldon, IL. Memorials may be made to the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Hancock, MI or the Oak Park/River Forest High School Alumni Association. 83, 225 Illini Drive, Galesburg, died at 8 AM Sunday, January 20, 2008 at home.
She was born May 16, 1924 in Cazenovia, IL, the daughter of Aaron J. and Charlotte K. Gehring Finley. She married W. A. “Bill” Heaton on December 6, 1952 in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1990.
She is survived by a son, James W. (and Lucia) Heaton, Gillette, WY, 2 daughters, Susan L. (and Paul) McCarren, Wheeling, IL and Marjorie E. (and Bob) Mackie, Blenheim, New Zealand, and 4 grandchildren, Tara Heaton and McKenzie Heaton, both of Gillette and Elise McCarren and Julia McCarren, both of Wheeling. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
She worked during WWII in factories supporting our country’s efforts. She was raised in the Cazenovia area and graduated from Metamora High School.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, where she volunteered her time. She also volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Galesburg Cottage Hospital, and several other organizations. She was a member of the P.E.O.
Funeral will be 11 AM Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Dr. Scott Grulke will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the chapel. age 94, of Galesburg, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11:14 am at Seminary Manor. She was born on July 23, 1913, at Penn, North Dakota to John Henry and Alvina Riek Gessner. She married Maynard E. Walberg on September 30, 1939 at Penn, North Dakota. He died on April 12, 1992. She is survived by three children, Lynne (husband Roland) Friestad of Galesburg, Peter (wife Darlene) Walberg of Forsyth, Illinois, and Sylvia (husband Bill Carpenter) Barnard of Ennis, Montana, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Daisy graduated from Penn High School and earned a BS degree in biological science at North Dakota Agricultural College, now North Dakota State University, in 1937. She worked in the education department until her marriage to Maynard, also a graduate of NDAC. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg and the Home Culture Club. She was a phenomenal gardener, raised beautiful African violets, and loved the outdoors. She loved music and especially enjoyed it when the immediate family gathered to sing around the piano. She cared for her family as a homemaker with all the skills that entails, taught her children discipline at an early age and encouraged them to reach for their highest potential.
Cremation was accorded, and a memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg on January 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to her church.

92, formerly of 563 Maple Ave., Galesburg died at 11:10 PM Wednesday in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born July 8, 1915 in Woodhull, IL the daughter of Edward and Christina Peterson. She married William L. Bailey on June 28, 1941 in Lincoln, NE. He died September 21, 2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol (and Robert) Simpson of Galesburg and one grandson, Brad Simpson of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, JoAnn Bailey, and two sisters.
She worked for the former Black’s Hardware for several years. She was a homemaker. She graduated from Alpha High School. She was a member of the Gale Products Retirees Club. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

61, of Crestview, FL, formerly of Galesburg and Berwick, IL passed away Thursday January 17, 2008 at the North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, FL.
He was born July 15, 1946 in Galesburg the son of Floyd and Lois Walker Stegall.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, serving his country faithfully in the United States National Guard. He had a lifelong love for muscle cars and was a member of the Spanish Trail Cruisers, the Lake Jackson Cruisers and the Buick Club. Richard farmed for many years and over time collected a wide variety of model tractors and cars. He loved music and dancing and was very talented on his keyboard. Richard was good with his hands and became skilled in different types of woodworking projects. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964. He attended the University of Illinois and Iowa Wesleyan.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Stegall; two sons, Tyson (and Neili) Stegall and Brad Stegall, both of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Brandi Schleich and Cari Anne Shinn, both of Peoria; two brothers, Dave Stegall of San Francisco, CA and Scott (and Lisa) Stegall of Cherry Hill, NJ; his step mother, Pat Stegall of Galesburg; two brothers-in-law, Billy of Crestview, FL and James of Luca, KY; three grandchildren Brandon, Rylee, and Alexandria and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday evening at the chapel. She was born December 26, 1925 in Greenville, IL the daughter of Arthur M. and Blanche N. Haun Benson. She married Morse V. Mentzer on October 23, 1945 in Des Moines, IA. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1995.
She is survived by one brother, Arthur J. “Bud” Benson of Galesburg and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Reggie Mentzer, and one daughter, Sheila Kay Mentzer.
She worked on the assembly line at the former Galesburg Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 24 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at the chapel, the family will not be present for the visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
