Mr. William J. McCarron, Galesburg Chapel

He was born on February 24, 1937 in Oak Park, IL to William J. and Grace Ryan McCarron.
He is survived by two sons, Ted McCarron or Dekalb, IL and Bill McCarron; two daughters, Jacqueline (and Van) McCallister of Tulare, CA and Jennifer (and Kash) Krishnarao of Jacksonville, IL; two brothers, one sister and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Noel Vojslavek in 2001, three brothers and a sister.
He worked for Illinois Bell and then ATT in the Chicago area. He moved to Galesburg upon retirement in 1993. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.
A memorial visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private graveside memorial services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Catherine E. “Eileen” Fey, Abingdon Chapel

She was born on October 27, 1927, in Galesburg, IL, to James L. and Elizabeth “Bess” McGivern Burke. She married Bernard “Butch” Fey on July 4, 1953. He survives.
Eileen is also survived by her five children, Diana (and Steve) Herriott of Sidney, IL, Rebecca (and Dave) Dimmick of Murrayville, IL, David (and Veronica) Fey of Quincy, IL, James Fey of Colorado Springs, CO, and Nancy (and Mike) Voiland of Garner, NC; her seven grandchildren, Kristina Herriott of Fort Sam Houston, TX, Matthew Herriott (and fiancé, Samantha Woodworth) of Sidney, IL, Daniel Herriott of Sidney, IL, Samuel Dimmick of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, Emma, Chandler and Harrison Fey all of Quincy, IL; a step granddaughter, Doria Voiland of New York, NY; her four sisters, Loretta Ewing of Burlington, IA, Betty (and Frank) Mower of Kewanee, IL, Eleanor Miller of Galesburg, IL, and Helen Weaver of Crystal Lake, IL; a sister-in-law, Gerry Burke of Galesburg, IL.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Fred Burke.
She grew up in Galesburg and was a member of the last graduating class from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1945. She then attended the St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948.
She had lived most of her adult life near Abingdon. She worked at the Galesburg Clinic and later assisted her husband for many years at Fey’s Processing Service in Abingdon.
She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed reading, knitting, plastic canvas and doing puzzles. She was a member of the North End Club, was a past member of the Abingdon Fire Protection District Auxiliary and also served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed celebrating her Irish heritage and was well known for her fruit pies.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Memorials in honor of Mrs. Fey may be made to the Care Center of Abingdon.

Mr. John F. Cable, Galesburg Chapel

He was born July 21, 1920 in Berwick, IL, the son of Hiram and Eunice Ralston Cable. He married Janice V. Markley on December 19, 1945 in Canton, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Kathy (and Mike) Wortman of Bryan, TX and Janet (and Craig Colvin) Cable of Clinton, TN, 3 grandchildren, Sara Daw, Abbie Wortman, and Jacob Wortman, and a brother, Edwin R. (and Jackie) Cable, San Marcos, TX. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
John was an electrical engineer at the former Maytag Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He graduated from Princeton High School and attended Knox College and Carl Sandburg College.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a member of the Galesburg Exchange Club and was a past president as well as an “Exchangite of the Year”. He was a reading buddy at Nielson School and was a volunteer for Galesburg Cottage Hospital and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid golfer, a GHS sports enthusiast, and a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
John served in the United States Army during World War II as a radio operator in the Signal Corps in Germany.
Funeral will be 1:30 PM Friday, August 29, 2008 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Greg Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 PM Friday at the chapel. Mr. Dale Eugene Swanson, Galesburg Chapel

swanson-dale.jpg85, 2999 Lincoln Park Dr, Galesburg, IL died at 9:40 PM Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born August 7, 1923 to Wesley and Edna Strowig Swanson in McCook, NE. He married Barbara Sandeen on July 14, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, IL.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter Kathi (and Doug) Cruce of rural Galesburg, a grandson Josh (and Kristen) Cruce of Platte City, MO, two granddaughters Lindsey (and Dirk) Steele of rural Maquon and Laura Cruce of Des Moines, IA, one great-grand daughter Ashleigh Cruce of Platte City, MO, and a sister Virginia Ryno of Peoria.
Dale graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941 and attended the University of Missouri. He served in the US Army in WW II from February 1943- February 1946 with the European Theater of Operation Inspector General. He worked as a traveling secretary for the former C.B. and Q. Railroad for 21 years. He was the president of Galesburg Burlington Credit Union for 20 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a former member of the Noon Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Dale was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, a member of the Galesburg Masonic Lodge, and a former member of Lake Bracken Country Club and was a member of the Board.
His love and joy was for his family and he took great pride in being a veteran and his accomplishments at his job at Galesburg Burlington Credit Union.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 29, 2008 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard. Mrs. Marion J. Wick, Galesburg Chapel

She was born June 12, 1924 in Alexis, IL the daughter of David E. and Mabel Stromquist Blixt. She married Roy E. Wick on January 20, 1945 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2004.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandi (and Richard) Hartman of Galesburg, 1 granddaughter, Tammy (and Eric) Evans of Altona, and 2 great grandchildren, Michael Fraser and Taylor Evans. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
Marion was a salesperson at the former O.T. Johnson’s Department Store. She and her husband Roy also owned and operated Roy’s Auto Service on Route 150, north of Galesburg for 44 years. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

Mr. Leslie E. “Bert” Littlefield, Galesburg Chapel

“Bert” was a 1973 graduate of Galesburg High School. He was a part owner of Allied Termite and Pest Control with his brother Mike for 35 years, retiring earlier this year. He was a member of Western Illinois Home Builders, Braindead Canoe Club, and was a past member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed riverboats, traveling, spending time in his cabin on the river, and also with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, a son Adam of Galesburg, a daughter Erin (and Jimi) Aldus of Galesburg and a granddaughter Chyna of Galesburg. Also surviving are 4 brothers Mike (and Barb) of Knoxville, IL, Larry (and Lois) of Fremont, CA, David (and Lori) of Palm Springs, CA, and Dennis of Peoria; 3 sisters Pat (and Bill) Ferrier of Galesburg, Pamela (and Darrell) Diskey of Mt. Zion, IL, and Judy (and Jack) Pleger of Merritt Island, FL.

Mrs. Helen F. Frakes, Galesburg Chapel

She was born on April 17, 1922 in Grand Mound, IA to James F. and Annie Shawver Henzen. She married Harold D. LaVern Frakes in Galesburg on April 17, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1988.
She is survived by a son, Steven W. (and Kim) Frakes of Yates City; two daughters, Janet (and Dale) Kleinschmidt of Merrill, WI and Audrey (and William) Astar of Greenville, SC; a grandson, Jeremy Kleinschmidt of Merrill, WI; three granddaughters, Christina Frakes of Yates City, Nicole Shake of Normal, IL and Rebecca Haring of Woodridge, IL; three great-grandchildren, Devan, Cole and Lauryn Kleinschmidt, all of Merrill, WI and a sister, Florence Rohr of Comanche, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters; one brother and a granddaughter, Melissa Frakes.
She came to Galesburg at the beginning of World War II to work as an inspector at the former Gale Products Company. At that time she was one of four women in the plant. She worked there for 8 years, retiring in 1948. After that she worked at Gibson Products Company for a number of years.
During her later years at home she enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles as well as growing flowers and sewing for her grandchildren. She found great pleasure in lively conversations with her family, friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Kathryn Wainer Leibovitz, Galesburg Chapel

She was born August 22, 1914 in Knoxville, IL, the daughter of Edward and Pearl Kellar Lindsey. She married David I. Wainer on February 4, 1940 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1976. She married Abraham Leibovitz on August 25, 1978 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1996.
She is survived by a son, Barry Wainer of Galesburg and 2 granddaughters, Tamara Wainer (and Michael Raftery) of New York and Hilary Wainer Donnelly (and Benjamin) of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Kathryn and her husband David Wainer were the proprietors of the former Pastime Club in Galesburg. They also operated a clothing business out of their home for many years.
She was a member of Temple Sholom and the National Council of Jewish Women. She was also active with the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She was known by many for her cooking skills and her service to Temple Sholom.

Mrs. Joyce D. McAtee, Galesburg Chapel

She was born April 11, 1934 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Wilbert and Edna Lange Schneider. She married Frank L. McAtee in 1953 in Alton.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Cheryl (and Garry) Hager of Galesburg and Elizabeth (and Richard) Kern of Godfrey, IL, and 6 grandchildren, Andrew Hager, Sarah Hager, Rachel Hager, Jason McAtee, Jacob McAtee, and Nikolaus Kern. She was preceded in death by a son, William McAtee in March of 2007.
Joyce worked in the business office of St. Joseph Hospital in Alton and later at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. She graduated from Alton High School and attended Patricia Stevens Finishing School in Saint Louis, Lewis and Clark College in Godfrey, and Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.
Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton and Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg. While living in the Alton area, she was past chairman of the annual United Way Fundraising Drive and was a member of the Godfrey Women’s Club.
Funeral will be 3 PM Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Smith will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 3 PM Saturday at the chapel. Mr. Irving E. “Swede” Davison, Galesburg Chapel

95, formerly of Henderson, IL died at 4:07 AM Monday, August 18, 2008 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, IL.
He was born on October 18, 1912 in Henderson to Irving and Emma Nelson Davison. He married Mary L. Fields October 9, 1932 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death October 29, 2001.
Irving is survived by two sons, Rodney (and Carol) Davison of San Jose, CA and Gary (and Joann) Davison of Wataga, IL, a daughter, Linda (and Ron) Buban of Alpha, IL, and his special friend, Alberta Bohlander. He is also survived by a brother, Jean “Pat” (and Aloma) Davison of Hutchinson, MN, 5 grandchildren, Kim Davison, Michelle Durham, Todd Davison, Brian Davison, and Stacey Metcalf, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, six sisters and two grandchildren, Susan Davison and Kevin Buban.
He owned and operated service stations on Rte#150 and Henderson Road and in Alpha, IL. Irving also owned Laundromats in Alpha, Woodhull, and Galva; retiring in 1995. He also mowed the Henderson Cemetery for 30 years. Irving was a member of the Moose Lodge #880. He loved ballroom dancing, duck hunting, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He played baseball for several area teams from 1930 to 1950.
