Mrs. Betty M. (Abel) Howard, Abingdon Chapel

82 of Galesburg, died at 3:40 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was the daughter of John and Bertha Bennett Abel. She married H. Eugene “Cookie” Howard on May 29, 1944 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2002.
She was the loving mother of Sharen (and Eric) Swanson of London Mills, John Howard of Abingdon, Rickie (and Donna) Howard, of Aurora and W. Leon Howard of Galesburg; loving grandmother of Penny (and Terry) Price, Marnee (and Kevin) Petrakis, Johnny Howard, Brad Howard,, Justin Howard, Jason (and Lisa) Howard, Rickie Howard, Jr., Chrystal Howard.; loving great grandmother of seven; two sisters, Dorothea (and Dale) Bonney of Galesburg and Marlene (Royal) Moore of London Mills; two sister-in-laws, LaVonne Abel and Betty L. Abel both of Galesburg.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
She worked at the former Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon and later in Central Processing at St. Mary Medical Center. She enjoyed doing embroidery, reading and country music.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 pm Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Mr. Frank J. Bloom, Sr., Galesburg Chapel

He was born December 2, 1924 in Warren, PA, the son of Harry and Elles Johansen Bloom. He married Nola I. Matson on January 9, 1946 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Frank J. Bloom, Jr. of Toulon, IL and David G. (and Pamela) Bloom of Galesburg, 4 grandchildren, Bridget (and Erik) Wessel of Grafton, WI, Scott (and Stacie) Bloom of Princeton, IL, F. Kevin (and Heather) Bloom of Kewanee, IL, and David J. (and Emily) Bloom of Evansdale, IA, 4 great grandchildren, Aspen Bloom of Kewanee, IL, Nathaniel Bloom of Chicago, and Kayla Bloom and Kyle Bloom, both of Kewanee, IL, a niece, Kristin (and Thomas) Gajdowski, of Saegertown, PA, a nephew, Timothy (and Penny) Paxson of Murfreesboro, TN, and a great niece, Kathryn Gajdowski of Saegertown, PA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret M. Paxson.
He worked as the cost department manager at Butler Manufacturing Company for 35 years, retiring September 1, 1986.
He graduated from Boston English High School and attended Wentworth University. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, where he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, trustee, volunteered in the office and was a Boy Scout leader. He was also a member of the Viking Club of Moline, the Flemish American Club of Kewanee, and the CBI Hump Pilot’s Association.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps for 4 years during World War II.
Funeral will be 11 AM Wednesday in First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Pauline Frances (Hook) Tessier, Abingdon Chapel

64 of 44 Knox Road 1150E., London Mills, died at 2:38 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on June 24, 1944 in Brisbane, Australia to Howard and Bertha Millett Hook. She married Loren Tessier on February 10, 1968 at the London Mills United Methodist Church. He survives.
Pauline is also survived by her sons, Brian (and Amanda) Tessier of Poughkeepsie, NY and Bradley (and Wendy) Tessier of Fairview; 4 grandsons, Mason, Jonas, Weston and Martin; one brother, Rodney (and Rita) Hook of RR Abingdon; two sisters, Diane (and Roger Bice) Shugart of RR Abingdon and Susan (and Nathan) Johnson of Winslow, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew.
Pauline moved to the United States in 1947 with her family. She graduated from Abingdon High School. She had worked as a seamstress at the former Formfit and Smoler Brothers in Monmouth. She also had worked for the Knox County Home Health and later at the Scharfenberg Greenhouse.
She was of the Methodist Faith and had attended the Methodist Church in Rapatee.
Her hobbies included knitting, cross stitching, gardening and she loved her flowers, watching basketball and NASCAR racing. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Newhall will officiate. Burial will be in the Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to London Mills Fire and Ambulance Department.

Mr. John L. Smith, Galesburg Chapel

He was born April 5, 1963 in Galesburg, the son of James F. and Susan G. New Smith. He married Susan L. Lane and later married Lorry M. Foltz Zeilman in Clinton, IA on April 27, 2004.
He is survived by his wife Lorry, parents, James and Susan Smith of Galesburg, five sons, Ian Louis Smith, Matthew Ryan Smith, Daniel Lane Smith, and Tyler James Smith, all of Victoria, IL, and Shane Foltz of Clinton, IA, two daughters, Chevie (and Chris) White of Camanche, IA and Britney Foltz of Clinton, IA, eight brothers, Pete (and Doris) Smith of Bishop Hill, IL, James (and Arlene) Smith of Murphysboro, TN, Jack Smith of Eugene, OR, Jerry Smith, Thomas (and Judi) Smith of Galesburg, Ricky Smith of Enid, OK, Randy (and Tina) Smith of Williamsfield, IL, and Robert (and Nikki) Smith of Galesburg, five sisters, Susie (and John) McGraw, Rosie Raska, Becky (and Dave) McGraw, and Joanne Cox, all of Galesburg, and Julie (and Bill) McGraw of Sheridan, IL, seven grandchildren, Anthony Parker, Jaxon White, Teighgan White, Jaleigh Foltz, Pierson White, Talyn Bartels, and Easton Steffes, and forty eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Edward Donald Smith.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1981. He worked for Walmart for 13 years and was manager, recently opening the new Walmart in Silvis, IL. He was an excellent son, husband, dad, and grandpa. He enjoyed sports following the Chicago Cubs and Bears and was a coach for the Victoria Little League.
Funeral service will be 1:30 PM Tuesday December 30, 2008 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Marty Briney officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 3-7 PM at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund at a later date.

Rev. William P. Seibert, Galesburg Chapel

“For to me, living is for Christ, and dying is even better.” Philippians 1:21.
Rev. William P. Seibert, 84, of 127 Hawkinson Ave., Galesburg, IL left his earthly residence to worship at the feet of his Lord, Jesus Christ 4:50 am. December 25, 2008.  He won his lengthy battle with Lewy Body Disease.
Bill was born Sept. 12, 1924 in Mahanoy Co. PA, to Torrence C and Lillian F (Reese) Seibert. Bill’s education was at Reading High School, PA; Millikin University, Decatur, IL; Anderson University; and Anderson School of Theology, IN. His early occupation was one of a musician and vocalist with bands in the 40’s. He then became an ordained Minister of the Church of God, Anderson, IN in 1952. He was a prolific author of Christian literature for numerous publishing houses and a contributing editor for Warner Press in Anderson, IN. He pastored five churches in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. He was a speaker for many seminars, Christian education and conventions. Bill’s passions were his family, writing, preaching, jogging, weight lifting, and enjoying nature.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vivian Virgene (Shake). They were married June 21, 1945 in Sioux City, IA. He is survived by a son, Billy L. (Brenda) Seibert of Deland,
FL; a daughter, Cheryl A Seibert of Galesburg, IL, also, six grandchildren, James (Vanessa) Brown of Murfreesboro, TN, Beth (Kim) Gerstorff of Louisville, KY, William (Amber) Brown of Monmouth, IL, Zackary (Terri) Seibert of Columbia, SC, Magdalene (Dale) Kellett of Columbia, SC, and Saul (Kelli) of Deland, FL; and twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday Dec. 29 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday Dec. 30 at First Church of God, 1080 Harrison St., Galesburg, IL with Rev. Billy Seibert and Rev. Paul Bickel officiating. Interment will follow at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, IL.
Bill’s legacy is the inspiration he gave us and the changes he brought about in the lives of those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a friend to lunch or dinner and celebrate the life of this wonderful man in sharing Christ’s love an example. Mr. Byron James Morsch, Galesburg Chapel

age 82 of 339 N. Taylor Wataga, IL died Friday December 26, 2008 at 1 PM at his home.
He was born December 15, 1926 in Waterman, IL the son of Byron Jacob and Elizabeth F. Haag Morsch. He married Elsie Miller.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Joel Morsch of FL and Anders Morsch of Plano, IL, one daughter, Heather Gibson of Wataga, IL, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was a brakeman for BNSF Railroad and he served in the United States Navy.
Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned.

Mrs. Lorraine W. Bitts, Galesburg Chapel

78, formerly of Galesburg died at 2:15 AM Thursday December 25, 2008 in Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
She was born November 6, 1930 in Galesburg the daughter of George and Elsie Stabler Lundquist. She married Donald Bitts on August 12, 1956 in Rapid City, SD. He died July 11, 1995.
She is survived by a son, Rick Bitts of Port Orange, FL; a daughter, Sherrie Dee Bitts of Ojai, CA; a sister, Betty Jo Olson of Galesburg; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marge Hilligoss-Miller.
Lorraine was a homemaker. She graduated from Galesburg High School. She loved animals and worked as a volunteer for animal rights.
Private family graveside services will be Tuesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Deacon Rod Gray will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mr. Fred Jackson, Jr, Galesburg Chapel

He was born February 9, 1959 in Indianola, Mississippi the son of Fred and Pearl Ranson Jackson, Sr.
He is survived by his step father, Floyd Carter of Chicago, IL, one son, Fred Jackson III of Florida City, FL; a step daughter, Nicole Jamison of Galesburg, IL; one brother, Cary Lee Jackson of Miami, FL; three sisters, Callie Jackson of Pontiac, MI, and Charlene Jackson and Pearl Jackson, both of Chicago, IL, a special friend, Ramona Jamison of Galesburg and her family, and a brother-in-law, O. C. Jamison of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by three sisters.
He attended Day County High School in Florida and Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. He was involved with the Revelation Missionary Baptist Church as a deacon and currently a deacon for Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school. He represented the church by speaking with prisoners at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center. He lived in Florida a number of years then moved to Chicago until 1979 before moving to Galesburg.
Funeral services will be 8:30 AM Monday December 29, 2008 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in Galesburg with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2-3 PM at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, 1910 S. Kedzie Ave. in Chicago, IL. Burial will be at Restvale Cemetery, Alsip, IL. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Florence I. Witmer, Galesburg Chapel

age 69 of 1028 Huber Ave., Galesburg, IL died Thursday December 25, 2008 at 4:20 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born October 16, 1939 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Eric and Mildred Fors Johnson. She married Don L. Witmer in Galesburg, IL on August 12, 1961.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Steven E. Witmer of Las Vegas, NV, three brothers, John (and Jo) Johnson of Hinsdale, IL, Phil (and Eleanor) Johnson of St. Charles, IL, and Paul (and Jackie) Johnson of Galesburg, IL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David Witmer on February 2, 1963.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957. She lived in Galesburg her entire life and was a member of the First Lutheran Church Galesburg.

Mrs. Esther “Pauline” Phillipson, Galesburg Chapel

She was born March 10, 1933 in Galesburg the daughter of Reuben and Helen Dahl Anderson. She married Willis LeRoy Phillipson in the Norwood Church north of Alexis on November 4, 1956. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1993.
She is survived by three sons Mark (Rita) Phillipson of Alexis IL, Bruce (Lynette) Phillipson of Colona IL, and Scott (Wendy Wilson) Phillipson of Galesburg; two sisters Ruby (Jake) Tye of Oneida IL and Dorothy (Jack) Oakley of Galesburg; a daughter-in-law Teresa Phillipson of Galesburg; seven grandchildren and a special friend Verne Hill of Alexis.
She was the manager of food services at Churchill Junior High for District #205 and at the same time was the bookkeeper for Bob Self and his newspaper. She worked for 20 years, retiring in 2000. She was raised near Alexis IL and lived in Galesburg most her life. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1951. She attended Western Illinois University for two years. She was a member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church and currently a member at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She was very active in the church.
She was a loving and thoughtful mother, grandmother and friend. Her family was very important to her and she was very important to her family. She enjoyed traveling, playing games, being a homemaker and socializing with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be Monday evening 6:30-8:00 PM at the chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in North Henderson IL. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society
