Mrs. Judith “Judy” Kay Frye, Galesburg Chapel

68, of 1838 Robertson Ave., Galesburg, IL died at 6:35 PM Thursday, September 24, 2009 at her home.
She was born on August 10, 1941 in Peoria, IL to Lee and Ellen Morrison Stephens. She married Daniel D. Frye on August 15, 1959 in Alexis, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David (and Lyn) Frye of Brunswick, ME and Darrin (Tamra) Frye of Normal, IL; two daughters, Diana (and Robert) Kinkade of Oneida, IL and Debra (and Wayne) Duncan of Monmouth, IL; two brothers, Jim (and Arlene) Stephens of Wautoma, WI and Jerry (and Mary) Stephens of Hiram, GA; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She worked as a fabricator at Mach I Boats in Monmouth for 18 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Galesburg where she served on its Scholarship Committee and a Board Member. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Monmouth and the Mothers of World War II of Alexis.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Paul Bickel officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Chapel. Private family graveside services will be at the Alexis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God Scholarship Fund.

Mrs. Louise I. Schubach, Galesburg Chapel

Born February 23, 1918 in Krefeld, Germany to Moritz and Tekla Wurzburg Michelson. Louise was the devoted wife to Fred and a loving mother to her 3 children, Terry, Ellen and Michael.
She married Fred Schubach December 24, 1941 in Peoria. He preceded her in death June 19, 2004.
Surviving is a son, Michael (wife Pam) Schubach of Peoria, 2 daughters, Ellen Schubach of Southlake, TX and Terry Schubach (and Larry Gelb) of Brookline, MA, a sister-in-law, Lillian Michelson of Laquna Hills, CA and 4 grandchildren, Samatha Schubach, Spencer Schubach, Amelia Walcek and Hannah Walcek.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Werner Michelson and a sister, Ellie Lowden.
Louise was a homemaker and a partner with her husband in a clothing business in Galesburg, Davenport and Peoria. She was a member of the Temple Sholom in Galesburg, the National Council of Jewish Women and United Jewish Appeal. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday September 27, 2009 at Temple Sholom, 665 W. North St., Galesburg, with Rabbi Aaron Sherman officiating. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Ethel Brockway, Galesburg Chapel

brockway-001.jpg97, of The Kensington, 311 E. Simmons, died September 21, 2009 with her children at her side. She was born on May 28th, 1912 in Galesburg, IL, a daughter of Charles and Clara Smith. She married Franklin “Punch” Brockway on May 14th, 1933. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1977. Ethel was an “at-home Mom” till her children were grown, then she was employed at O. T. Johnson’s in the women’s apparel department.
Ethel is survived by: her daughters; Carol (David) Rayhill of Decatur, IL and Nancy (Bill) Russell of Charleston, S.C.; her son, Roger “Butch” (Donna) Brockway of Livingston, TX; 12grandchildlren; 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Curtis Lee Brockway; parents; brothers, Ernest and Harold Smith; and her sister, Wilma Nelson.
Ethel prided herself on the fact that she kept herself very actively involved in many organizations till the very end. Her activities were centered around the First Lutheran Church of which she was a lifetime member. She was active in various church activities for many years such as; Miriam Circle, Sewing Circle, Choir, Sunshine Committee, Decorating Committee, Mother’s Circle, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher. For many years Ethel was active in the Church Women United, the Elkettes, and she held many offices at the Galesburg Towers. She enjoyed attending the Oak’s potlucks. Ethel had a deep love of music and attended many musical programs especially Choral Dynamics’ Programs. Her most cherished activity was the time that she was able to spend with her family and attending their various activities.
The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held 10:30–12:00 p.m., Saturday September 26, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery with a lunch to follow at The First Lutheran Church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the many people who befriended and assisted Ethel especially; her niece, Sherry Hall and family, great-niece Brenda Bird, Rev. Paul Johnson and her various friends at the First Lutheran Church, Hospice Compassus, Dr. Jeff Hershkowitz, the staff & residents of The Kensington, Dr. Madan Gupta, Dr. Thomas Whittle and the Galesburg Clinic.

Mrs. Arlene V. Sharar, Galesburg Chapel

She was born April 27, 1922 in Sperry, IA the daughter of Burton E. and Lena Breuer Vance. She married Frank A. Sharar in Fulton, MO on January 31, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1990.
Arlene is survived by her two sons, William E. (and Gina) Sharar of Davis, CA and David A. (and Laurie) Sharar of Bloomington, IL, her daughter, Ruth (and Randall) Jurgensen of St. Louis, MO, one brother Floyd Vance of Kansas City, MO, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a sister and a brother.
She was a receptionist and salesperson for Healy Real Estate. She retired in 1984. She graduated from high school in Sperry, IA and Weaver Real Estate School. Arlene was a member of the Lombard Home Extension, the Westminister Circle and the Sewing Circle. She was a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church. She greatly enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, and homemaking. Arlene’s life was characterized by hard work, service to others, resiliency during difficult times, nurturing her creative abilities, and applying Christian values on a daily basis. She was immensely grateful for the support and visits she regularly received while in Rosewood from her many friends, neighbors, and fellow Presbyterian Church members. The family appreciates the care and compassion provided by Rosewood over the past several years.
 Memorial Service will be 11:30 AM, Saturday September 26, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church. A display of some of Arlene’s crafts, a photo exhibit, and opportunity to greet her family will take place at 10:30 prior to the service. The Rev. David Parker will officiate. Mr. Jeffrey Eugene Lynn, Galesburg Chapel

47, of 583 E. Brooks St., Galesburg, died at 5:20 AM Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born June 28, 1962 in Galesburg, the son of Howard Leroy and Marilyn Kneer Lynn. He married Pamela Sue Angelo in 1980 in Williamsfield.
He is survived by his wife and a son, Christopher Lynn of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jeff had worked at the former Lynn’s Sunoco Station, had worked in automobile maintenance, and was a cook at Sully’s. He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Joseph B. Morrissey, Galesburg Chapel

He was born October 2, 1956 the son of Joseph E. Morrissey of Galesburg. He married Linda D. Gau on June 4, 1977 in Trinity Lutheran Church.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Linda of Galesburg; his father ,Joseph Morrissey of Galesburg; a son, Nicholas D. Morrissey of Galesburg; a daughter, Amanda J. Morrissey of Brielle, NJ; a brother, Anthony K. Morrissey of Galesburg and a sister, Carin (Bob) Franey of Galesburg.
He was the owner of Quality Carpet Care for 27 years. He was baptized in the Catholic Faith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Curt Lipe will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at the chapel. Mrs. Rowena Ann Ginther, Galesburg Chapel

She was born August 26, 1939 in Aledo, IL the daughter of Warren and Pauline Gilmore Mattson. She married Eugene Ginther on March 21, 1963 in the Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; her brother, Jerry (Connie) Mattson of Aledo; nephews, Randy (Jennifer) Mattson of Aledo and Ron Mattson of Mobile, AL; great nephews, Nick, Adam, Tyler and great nieces, Kelsey and Sarah and one great great nephew, Connor.
Rowena was a bio-chemist at the former Galesburg State Research Laboratory from 1961-1968. She later worked for JoAnn Fabrics in Galesburg. She was raised in Aledo and graduated from Aledo High School in 1957. She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan in 1961 with a degree in science. Rowena was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Senior Circle. She was a recipient of two kidney transplants one in 1996 and the other in 2004. She has kept in touch with the two living donors. Rowena enjoyed sewing and made many things for friends and family. She was a former Regent of DAR and was a member of the Knox County Genealogical Society. She was a member of the Knox County Home Extension.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Thursday September 24, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Sarah Parker will officiate. Mrs. Linda K. (Welty) Morris, Abingdon Chapel

Linda was born on February 29, 1956 in Galesburg, a daughter of Charles and Erma Jean (Courson) Welty, Sr. She married Billy R. Morris on January 15, 1979 in Abingdon. He survives.
She is also survived by her Aunt, Ruby Swigert, her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Stephen Welty and Charles Welty, Jr.
Linda lived in the Abingdon area all her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1975. She was a homemaker and had also worked at the Hardee’s restaurant in Abingdon. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and served on the Mission Board and was a Sunday School Teacher.
Funeral service will be at11:00 am Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Tom Smith and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Thursday at the chapel.

He married Imogene Sipes on February 28, 1954. She preceded him in death on December 16, 1994. He later married M. Catherine Wort Wear on July 15, 2000 in Rushville, IL. She survives.Also surviving is his mother, Helen Clark of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Lyle LaVerne (Kathy) of Ogen, UT and Dwight Alan Clark of Galesburg; three step sons, Dave (Cindy) Wear of Arlington, TX, Clark (Susan) Wear of Browning, IL and Barry (Karen) Wear of Mt. Sterling, IL; four step daughters, Jackie (Steve) Enk of St. Charles, IL, Jody Duffy of Springfield, IL, Judy (Jerry) Ham of Mt. Sterling, IL and Liz (Tim) Scoggins of Springfield, IL; four brothers, Gerald (Janet) Clark of ShoLo, AZ, William (Alice) Clark of Monmouth IL, Robert (Cecelia) Clark of Cadillac, MI and Edward Clark of Galesburg; three sisters, Barbara Sloan of Wyoming, IL, Ruth Ann Olson of Galesburg, IL and June Hawk of Monmouth, IL; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, sixteen step grandchildren and fourteen step great grandchildren.He served in the US Army for three years in LaRecchelle, France as Cpl. of the 44th Division.He worked for the CB & Q Railroad, later becoming Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 ½ years. He worked as Carman for 13 years and as a Brut operator for 15 years. She was born August 24, 1944 in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Richard and Vivian VanZandbergen Brooks.
She is survived by a brother, Richard Brooks of Las Vegas, NV, brothers-in-law, Bob Sweeney and David Hunn, both of Alpha, IL, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, Marilyn Woods, Cheryl Hunn, and Linda Sweeney.
Ruth graduated from Rock Island High School. She attended First Christian Church in Galesburg.
