Mr. Jackie Ray Frye, Galesburg Chapel

53, Macomb, formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:28 PM Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the emergency room of McDonough District Hospital.
He was born April 28, 1956 in Galesburg, the son of Jack and Beaulah Rusk Frye.
He is survived by 3 brothers, Chuck (and Mary) Van Beveran of Galesburg, Rick (and Jeanie) Van Beveran of California, and Gary (and Carol) Van Beveran of Arkansas, and a sister, Kay (and Chuck) Benson of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mack Van Beveran.
He has lived and worked in Macomb for the past several years.

Mrs. Deborah Hardges, Galesburg Chapel

She was born October 30, 1935 in Glendora, MS, the daughter of Willie L. and Mary Walker Hardges.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Yvonne (and Eugene) Boggan of Galesburg, Darlene DeLaCruz of Galesburg, Ina Marie Johnson of Portland, OR, Sheri Wade of Galesburg, and Rene Hardges of Galesburg, a son, Jerry L. Hardges of Norfolk, VA, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.

Deborah was a cook, who worked at Jumer’s for 13 years and then at Marigold Health Care Center for one year. She has lived in Galesburg since 1948.

Funeral will be 2 PM Monday, December 28, 2009 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Lewis Woods will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM Monday at the chapel. Mr. Benjamin Miles Swanson, Galesburg Chapel

He was born April 2, 1928 in Andover, IL the son of Nels August and Alice Mae Dora Bergstrom Swanson. He married Betty Louise Peterson in Coldbrook on March 4, 1955. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Jane (Gary) Spence of Monmouth, IL; a daughter-in-law, Kristine Swanson of Cameron, IL; and three grandchildren, Megan (Sam) Sarver, Tracy (Andy) Engstrom and Bryan (Jackie) Spence and three great grandchildren, Reagan, Jackson, and Colton Spence. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeffrey Swanson on September 10, 2006, three brothers and three sisters.
He served as a Corporal in the Army from December 11, 1950-September 10, 1952 in the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.
Benjamin worked as a farmer and was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Property Committee. He also was a charter member of the Pairs & Spares Sunday School class. Ben was a 57 year member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday December 28, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Revs. Tim Johnson and Paul Lydic will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Mr. Daryl E. Craig, Galesburg Chapel

He was born March 23, 1925 in Galesburg the son of James W. A. and Edna Karna Olson Craig. He was married to Shirley I. Riner from 1949 to 1974.
He is survived by two sons, Gary W. Craig (Karen Roney) of Longmont, CO and Kevin R. Craig of Lenexa, KS.
He served in the United States Army as 1st Lt. during World War II, returning from overseas in 1946 and recalled for staff duty from 1948-1950 in Washington, DC.
He farmed for 10 years in Galesburg and 4 years in Rio. He later worked as an insurance agent, an adjuster and general agency manager. He also managed two small farm mutual insurance companies in Illinois. He was an adjuster and claim investigator in Missouri. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940 and Knox College in 1946. Daryl was a member of the Jaycees. He also was a member of the American Red Cross, serving as a disaster relief volunteer and instructor for 7 years. He worked 22 disasters from coast to coast. Also with the Red Cross, he volunteered driving cancer patients to Peoria. He was a volunteer for Cottage Hospital. He was affiliated with Central Congregational Church and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Eulila R. Hilligoss, Galesburg Chapel

92, of 275 W. Losey St., Galesburg, IL died at 6:00 AM Wednesday December 16, 2009 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born September 9, 1917 in Henderson Twp, IL the daughter of Alfred and May Dean Perdue. She married Robert E. Hilligoss on January 2, 1936 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1969.
She is survived by a friend, Lorriane M. Holcomb of Galesburg, whom cared for her.
She was a homemaker and graduated from Galesburg High School.

Mr. Robert L. “Biker Bob” Kelley, Galesburg Chapel

He was born August 5, 1948 in Monmouth, IL to Robert L. and Martha Matilda Smith Kelley. He married Rebecca Shane.
Surviving are 3 sons, Chris, Kyle and Robert Kelley of Galesburg, a daughter, Ashley Kelley of Galesburg, a sister, Martha Kelley of Monmouth and a grandchild.  He is survived by Pamela Taylor whom he shared his home.   He is also survived by a large circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mathew Kelley and a brother, Gary Kelley.
Bob was a warehouseman for Gates Rubber Company for 26 years and also worked for Chilly Willy’s Custom Cycle Parts in Galesburg. He was a life member of H.O.G. He loved the Chicago Cubs and his dogs. He enjoyed traveling and riding his Harley Davidson and Honda motorcycles.

Mrs. Hazel L. Kimbrough, Galesburg Chapel

She was born November 11, 1913 in Ray, OK to the late Harrison Gullick and Elnora (McConnell) Jarman; #716 on the Cherokee Freedman-Dawes Roll and made her home in Galesburg.
Every spring Hazel looked forward to gardening in her lovely flower beds. Along with gardening, she also was considered a master of fine crafts such as needle point, sewing and knitting. She also loved to read and cook.
Hazel is survived by four sons, Eugene H. (Hope) Goodlow of Galesburg, Cleatis P. (Carolyn) Goodlow of Portland, OR, and James F. Kimbrough and Charles B. Kimbrough, both of Galesburg, a daughter, Deborah F. Kimbrough of Galesburg; 42 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren and a longtime friend, Elenor Reynolds of Galesburg.
Hazel was preceded in death by grandparents Andrew J. McConnell and Sallie (Harlon) McConnell; #715 on the Cherokee Freedman-Dawes Roll, a brother, Ellsworth McKinley, husbands, William L. Goodlow, Wayne Blackwell and Frank J. Kimbrough, two sons, William L. Goodlow and Leroy R. Kimbrough, four daughters, Mary J. Goodlow, Helen L. Shelton, Sheila A. Taylor and Grace E. Kimbrough, and three grandsons.

Mrs. Charlotte P. Swanson, Galesburg Chapel

She was born May 19, 1918 in Galesburg, the daughter of Robert and Myldred Peterson Swanson. She married William M. Swanson on May 5, 1979 in Galesburg.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Bill. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lee Swanson.
Charlotte was a registered nurse, working at Butler Manufacturing Company, Knox College and Galesburg Cottage Hospital, before retiring in 1982. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937 and from Moline Public Hospital Nursing School in 1940. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville and also Svithiod Local Lodge Vasa 17. She made two trips to Sweden to visit relatives.
Charlotte served as a nurse in the United States Navy during World War II. She was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant.
Funeral will be 11 AM Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Michel D. Clark will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the chapel. Mrs. Mary E. Beckham, Galesburg Chapel

She was born September 26, 1920 in Cambridge, OH, the daughter of William H. and Mary Emanuel Morgan. She married Allen D. Beckham on April 3, 1948 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1984.
She is survived by a son, Mark A. (and Jann A.) Beckham of Galesburg, a daughter, Susan Beckham of Alexis, IL, and 5 grandchildren, Levi Morgan and Laney Morgan, both of Alexis, and Tammy Gast, Todd Varaneckas, and Michael Degener, all of Indiana. She was preceded in death by a step daughter, Rosemarie Newberry and 2 brothers.
Mary was a homemaker who provided childcare for many neighbors. She had also worked in the office at Butler Manufacturing Company. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. During World War II, Mary volunteered as a “Gray Lady” at Mayo General Hospital. She graduated from Brown’s Business College.

Mr. Glenn Lewis Nelson, Galesburg Chapel

He was born May 19, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Richard L. and Esther A. Larson Nelson. He married Gearldeen Lehman on September 15, 1946 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1998.
Glenn is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. (Dan) Hydrick of Arvada, CO and two grandchildren, Emily and Kady Hydrick of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Wilma JoAnne Boone.
He served in the Army Air Force for three years as a Staff Sergeant. He worked for the former Gale Products Division of the Outboard Marine Corporation as an accounting supervisor for thirty years, retiring May 31, 1981. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942 and attended the University of Illinois for two years. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Glenn also was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
