72, of Henderson, Ill. died at 10:15 PM Thursday February 25, 2010 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born August 4, 1937 in Galesburg the daughter of Ellwood Julian and Nora Gertrude Peters Preston. She married Jack Harding. She later married Clarence J. Anderson on April 28, 1972 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike (Debby) Harding of Galesburg and Larry Harding of Galesburg; one step son, John (Barb) Anderson of Knoxville, Ill.; a step daughter, Rhonda (Bob) Fones of Knoxville, Ill.; one sister, Wanda (Jerry) Whetsell of Bartonville, Ill.; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
She was a homemaker. She loved being at the river, camping, working in her yard and her flowers. She enjoyed being a grandmother very much. She loved her family and friends.

87, of 1651 Summit St, Galesburg, Ill. died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Heartland Heath Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born on May 3, 1922 in the state of Wyoming to Garfield J. and Flora W. Seivers Spencer. He married Alice Lieber in Pineville, La. on April 23, 1943. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven (and Linda) Spencer of Bloomington, Ill. and Jeffrey (and Sandy) Spencer of Galesburg, a daughter, Deborah Pickett of Woodstock, Ill.; two brothers, Merle Spencer of Wheeler, Ore. and Stanley Spencer of Pendleton, Ore. six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.
Irv worked 20 years for CB&Q and Burlington Northern Railroad; he then worked 18 years as a Building Inspector for the City of Galesburg, retiring in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the European Theater.
He was a 1940 graduate of Custer (S.D.) High School. He lived in Galesburg since the age of 20; before that he lived in Wyoming, Colorado and South Dakota.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of Alpha Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and Past Watchman of Shepherds of the Bethel Shrine. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Mohammed Shrine, and El Bon Shrine Club and was Past Patron of Galesburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and a volunteer at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Irv served with the Galesburg Emergency Police for 30 years.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Marilyn Anell officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, where Masonic Rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg with Military Rites by Ralph M. 93, of 1709 N. Prairie St., Galesburg, Ill. died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on July 26, 1916 in Huttig, Ark. the son of Arthur G. and Loula Belle Simonton Fish. He married Winfred Hall in February 1945. She preceded him in death. He then married Dorothy L. Folger in Lincoln, Neb. on September 14, 1990. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1998.
Art is survived by two daughters, Dorothea Simmons of Denver, Colo. and Barbara (and Sterling) Buch of Manhattan, IL, a step daughter, Carol Gibson of Galesburg, three grandchildren, Steve, Jeff, and Dave Gibson, seven great grandchildren, Jake, Brittany, Jessica, Ashlee, and Liz Gibson and Amber and Brian Kastl, two great great grandchildren, Brence and Brooklyn Gibson, a niece, Diane Kappus, and two nephews, Steve and Bill Apsey and many other nieces and nephews.
Art spent his first two years teaching in Oquawka and then taught for Galesburg Community District #205 for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He taught physical education and various other subjects. He started the swim team and intramural sports program at Galesburg High School.
He was a graduate of Springfield High School. He attended Springfield Junior College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois and a master’s degree from Northern Colorado University. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Knox County Retired Teachers.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. David Parker officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. 96, 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg, Ill., died at 12:20 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2010 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born February 4, 1914 in Galesburg, the daughter of Herman and Mary Carnes Patterson. She married Cecil E. Watson on August 21, 1934 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death October 4, 1977.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Pat) Strode of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, a grandson, Val (and Ann) Strode of St. Louis, Mo., and two great grandchildren, Emily (and Zak) Studebaker and Matthew Strode. She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, and two half brothers.
Ruth worked at Protexall in Galesburg for 25 years. She was a member of East Main Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Mary Babcock Circle. Ruth was a member of the Knox County Grandmothers Club. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, and Bunco Club.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Linwood Cemetery. Rev. Robin Faull will officiate. 91, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on July 16, 1918 in Hermon, Ill. the son of Harry A. and Hattie Edith Smith Bowden. He married Ruth M. Bowman in Hermon on July 20, 1940. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1973. He then married Phyllis J. Brown in Galesburg on June 27, 1979. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1993.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha S. Hines of Alpha, Ill. and Barbara R. (and Alan) Knight of Orlando, Fla.; a step-son, Mark C. (and Pam) Brown of Galesburg; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
William lived in Hermon until moving to Galesburg in 1953. He worked in the maintenance department at Maytag for 32 years, retiring in 1983. After retirement from Maytag, he owned and operated 3-Way Cleaning Service in Galesburg until 2007. He was a 1938 graduate of Gilson (Ill.) High School and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3629 in Oquawka, Ill and Moose Lodge #880, Galesburg.
William liked fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was always a supportive father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Suzanne Geer officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. He will be cremated following the services and then buried in East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg at a later date. 54, of 545 E. Willard St., Wataga, Ill. died at 1:07 PM Friday, February 19, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born on October 24, 1955 in Galesburg to Leonard and Velda G. Douglas Mahnesmith. He married Debra Pedigo. He then married Robin Mahnesmith in Wataga, Ill. in 1990. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Troy (and Laura) Hensley, Tim Miller and Anthony Mahnesmith, all of Galesburg; five daughters, Lori Mahnesmith, April Miller, Lisa Miller and Lydia Mahnesmith all of Galesburg and Danielle (and Richard III) Carr of Cameron, Ill.; two brothers, John Mahnesmith and Lenny (and Alice Pucket) Mahnesmith, both of Galesburg and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Miller; and a brother, Gary Mahnesmith.
He was a correctional officer at the East Moline Correctional Center for 20 years. He was a graduate of Galesburg High School and Carl Sandburg College. He had many hobbies that included photography, rock and gem collecting, woodworking and carving, key chain collecting, stargazing, storm watching, fishing, camping and science fiction.
He served in the Navy and was stationed in Vietnam during the fall of Saigon.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Hinchliff - Pearson – West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Kirk Kendall officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Chapel. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ralph M. He was born on July 9, 1932 in Maquon, the son of Ulysses L. “Bump” and Luella M. (Thurman) Moshier. He married Marjorie Cannon in 1952 in Galesburg .
Elwood is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie, two daughters, Tina (and Rick) Grohmann of Gilson and Terri Brown of Macomb; one son, Dan (and Jodi) Moshier of St. Augustine; 5 grandchildren, Jeff (and Tammi) Grohmann, Stacy (and Chad) Josefson, Tonya (and Luke) English, Cory Moshier and Kyle Moshier; 4 great-granddaughters; one brother, Jerry (and Mary Jo) Moshier of Abingdon, a sister-in-law, Launa Moshier of Canton and a brother-in-law, William (and Betty) Cannon of Glasford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David W. Moshier and one brother Russell Moshier.
Elwood attended Avon High School. He was a farmer and farmed in the Abingdon area most of his life. He enjoyed being with his family and visiting with friends. He enjoyed his pets.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at the chapel.

82, of 609 Cypress Lane, Galesburg died at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday February 17, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born September 1, 1927 in Sao Paulo, Brazil the daughter of William H. and Lucie M. Fulwiler Beattie. She married Donald H. White in Philadelphia, Pa. on September 9, 1950. He survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Charles G. (and Sherry) Beattie of Georgetown, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Lynnette White of Washington, Ill.; three granddaughters, Kim Frans, Megan Brent and Anne White; four great grandchildren and an “adopted” daughter, Carol Dilks of Reston, VA. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy L. White on April 14, 2007.
Billie was a dedicated homemaker and volunteer. She graduated from high school in Escola Americana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1944 and Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in 1949. She was reared in Brazil until college age and then moved to the United States. She has lived in Galesburg since 1963. She was a volunteer at Cottage Hospital and Cottage Corner, a member of the Altrusa Club and the Fortnightly Study Club. She was a long time member of the Railroad Days Committee and a member and past president of the former Visiting Nurses Association Board. Billie was a member of the Central Congregational Church and sang in the Church Choir.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Central Congregational Church with Rev. Thomas Heather officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Central Congregational Church or to Hospice Compassus. 78, 1512 W. Tomar Court, Peoria, Ill., formerly of Galesburg, died at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the emergency room of Proctor Hospital, Peoria.
He was born April 27, 1931 in Galesburg, the son of John Hilmer and Eunice Stevens Miller. He married Gracie M. Swigart on November 20, 1955 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2005.
He is survived by two sons, Keith D. Miller (and Katie Curran) of Nashville, Tenn. and Jeff A. Miller of Gilson, Ill., a daughter, Peggy (and Ron) Kennedy of Normal, Ill., and four grandchildren, Kevin Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy, Connor Kennedy, and Jennifer Quesnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Glenn worked in quality control for the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for 28 years. He graduated from Galesburg High School. Glenn was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge #880. He had lived in Peoria since 1992.
He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1951 to 1955.

96, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg died at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday February 16, 2010 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born September 11, 1913 in Galesburg, the son of John A. and Effie M. Lincoln Bennett. He married Eileen Denisar on September 2, 1950 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Duane A. Bennett of Portland Ore.; two daughters, Diane (Mel) Wilcoxen and Debra A. Johnson, both of Galesburg; one brother, Robert C. Bennett of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Tara Baker, Jill Bradford, Tanya Baker, Doug Bradford, Frank Cannady and Travis Cannady and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Fred graduated from Galesburg High School in 1932. After graduation from high school, he worked for Ford Hopkins Drug Store until he went in the Army in 1940. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned home from the service in 1945 and was immediately and unexpectedly put to work at the H & H Bowling Alley, which was located in the basement of the Bondi Building. Fred worked at the bowling alley until 1950 at which time he went to work for the Golden Cream Dairy as a milkman. After 10 years at the dairy, he worked for 19 years for Galesburg School District # 205 as a custodian until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Fred was a member of the Covenant Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday February 22, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Tom Ek will officiate.
