Mrs. Barbara June Hallberg, Galesburg Chapel

87, formerly of 691 Bateman St., Galesburg, died at 9:40 AM Friday, March 26, 2004 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born March 16, 1917 in St. Augustine, IL, the daughter of Jonathan Oscar and Rachael May Ray Babbitt. She married Richard C. Hallberg on October 28, 1939 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2000.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Peterson, Galesburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and one sister.
She worked at Butler Manufacturing during WWII and then operated the former Nu Mode Hosiery Shop inside Bunker’s Shoe Store for 10 years. She also sold real estate for many years.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1935. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She was a member of the Home Extensionâ€\”Lombard Unit for 30 years, O.A.K.S. (Older Americans of Knox), the Galesburg Artist Guild, the Tri County Travelers (Good Sam), and a former member of the Pilot Club.
Funeral will be 2 PM Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association or First Lutheran Church.
