Mr. Raymond W. Swanson
86, of 506 Janice Lane Galesburg, IL, died at 12:07 PM Monday December 24, 2001 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on April 1, 1915 in Riceton, Saskatchewan, Canada to Earle N, and Edna (White) Swanson. He married Janice Clair Young in Galesburg on January 13, 1940. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Judi (and Bill) Kiefer of Peoria, AZ, two sons, James (and Pam) Swanson of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Larry Swanson of Elgin, IL, a sister, Leota Rogers of Haysville, NC, ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He had been a partner in the Swanson Seed Farm since 1930. He was a graduate of the Sparta Township High School in Wataga, IL and attended the Browns Business College in Galesburg. He was a member of the East Main Congregational United Church of Christ, Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, the Scottish Rite, the Mohammed Shrine, Elks Lodge #894, the Knox County Farm Bureau, the Producers Livestock Association and the Orpheum Restoration Committee. He was a 52-year member and past president of the Knox County (IL) Fair Board. He was also a member of the Northern Illinois State Association of Agricultural Fairs, the Northern Illinois Colt Association and the Showman’s League of America.
His funeral will be 10:00 AM Saturday December 29, 2001 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Robin Faull officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday December 28, 2001 at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to East Main Congregational United Church of Christ.
