Mr. Edwin L. "Cub" Harding, Galesburg Chapel

82, 1160 W. Fremont St., Galesburg, died at 3:49 PM Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at home.

He was born August 9, 1921 in Galesburg, the son of William O. and Dora I. Douglas Harding. He married Stella Crouch in 1941. He later married Evilo L. Wingo Rollins on September 1, 1951 in Knoxville, IL. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1997.

He is survived by a son, Clarence “Bo” Harding, Laguna Hills, CA, a daughter, Marjorie G. (husband Pete) Calderone, Galesburg, 2 step daughters, Maxine M. (husband Larry) Hendricks, Galesburg and Joan M. (husband Chuck) Allen, Knoxville, IL, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 5 sisters, 2 step sons, a grandson, and a great granddaughter.

He worked for the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation for 27 years. He retired in 1983. He later worked as a driver and salesman for several area soft drink dealers for 11 years

He was an avid golfer and played for the Gale Golf League. He was also a baseball fan, seeing 14 big league baseball parks across the United States and he saw 2 no hit games, Kenny Holtzmann over the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field and Bob Gibson over the Pirates in Pittsburgh. He was a fan of the Big Band Era, his favorite band being the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

He was a 1939 graduate of Galesburg High School.

Funeral will be 11 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Deacon Jim Haneghan will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to the Hemo-Dialysis Unit at Cottage Hospital.
