79, 917 W. North St., Galesburg, formerly of RR #1, Knoxville, IL, died at 3:35 PM Friday, August 20, 2004 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
She was born July 29, 1925 in Galesburg, the daughter of Arthur W. and Hildegarde E. Hawkinson Holst. She married Robert Glee Sherwood on November 17, 1951 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1973.
Surviving is a son, Scott Randall Sherwood, Galesburg, a daughter, Lindsay A. Sherwood, Milwaukee, WI, a brother, Arthur “Jack” (and Elizabeth) Holst, Ann Arbor, Michigan, a sister, Marilyn A. (and John) Nape, Plantation, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a case worker with the Illinois Department of Public Aid for several years. She then worked as a secretary for Promotivation Inc. for the past 14 years.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1943. She graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson with a BA in foreign language in 1947. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg.
She enjoyed intellectual pursuits and continued taking classes at Bradley University in Peoria throughout her life. She was a selfless individual, who was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, the outdoors, and birds.
Funeral will be 2 PM Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 PM Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
