Mrs. Sharon Kay Hootman, Galesburg Chapel

hootman-sharon.jpg71, of 1136 W. Losey St., Galesburg, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at home.
She was born January 15, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Edward M. and Evelyn Eileen Miller Long. She married Gail Wyatt Hootman, Sr. in 1959 in Burlington.
She is survived by her husband, Gail, two daughters, Gaila (and David) Crump of Elmwood, Ill. and Roszella (and Tom) Pogue of Oneida, Ill., four sons, Benjamin (and Cathy) Hootman of Wataga, Ill., Gail Jr. (and Vickie) Hootman of Altona, Ill., Jonathan (and Kellie) Hootman of North Henderson, Ill., and Christopher (and Amanda) Hootman of Galesburg, 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Marcia (and Gary) Dick of Burlington, and Debra (and Lester) Plath of West Burlington, Iowa, three sisters-in-law, Thena Joy (and Gary) Long of Danville, Iowa, Izean Garnett of Kahoka, Mo., and Betty Hootman of Burlington, special friends, JoEtta and Dorris Coleman, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sharon was a homemaker. She was raised and educated in Burlington, Iowa, graduating from Burlington High School in 1958. After her marriage, she lived in Farmington, Iowa for five years. The family moved to Altona, Ill. and lived there for 40 years before moving to Galesburg. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Burlington and the Altona Baptist Church. Sharon was a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader, and assisted with Bible school. She enjoyed crafts, reading, gardening, sewing, holidays and family events, and her pets, Buddie and Panther.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Steinmeyer Cemetery, Farmington, Iowa with Rev. Danny Weinreich officiating. Memorials may be made to Steinmeyer Cemetery Association.
