Mr. Joe M. Brock, Abingdon Chapel

obit_us_flag.jpg80 of Abingdon, died at 4:33 pm Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on September 10, 1930 in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Glenn W. and Nina G. (Shippy) Brock. He married Betsy Rhea West on July 19, 1956 in Dallas City, Illinois. She survives.
Joe is also survived by two sons, Marvin and Lee, both of Galesburg; one daughter, Jenny (and Henry) of Sumner, Georgia; two stepsons, Harold of Galesburg and Joseph in Florida; one stepdaughter, Joan of Galesburg; two brothers Harvey Brock of Moline, Bill (and Ann) Brock of Denton, Texas; two sisters, Roberta (and George) West and Frances (and Don) Thurman all of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cecil Brock and Melvin Brock.
Joe had lived in the Abingdon area most of his life. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at lumber yards for 24 years, was a truck driver for 27 years and drove for Briggs Manufacturing, for Munson Trucking and for Star Transportation in Morton retiring in 1996. His hobbies included taping and recording movies of his grandchildren and woodworking.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 am Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Cherry Grove Cemetery near Abingdon. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

  3. Sorry to hear about Joe passing. I was Joe’s Dispatcher when he worked at VSM Trucking. I always told Joe that the young guys couldn’t keep up with him. He was a great guy and will be missed by all.
