Mr. Fred Taylor, Abingdon Chapel
age 99 of Galesburg and formerly of Berwick, died at 5:10 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg.
He was born on January 31, 1913 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the son of Claude and Ollie (Ross) Taylor. He married Doris Derry on June 22, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Doris; four sons, Larry (and Anne) Taylor of Galesburg, Mike (and Mary Stroops) Taylor of Abingdon, Roger (and Janet) Taylor of Galesburg and Paul “Pat” Taylor of Berwick; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and three grandchildren.
He worked as a laborer at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg. He also worked in construction for several years and later as a pipe fitter at the Abingdon Pottery retiring in 1978. He had lived in Galesburg since December of 2000 and prior to that had made his home in Berwick. He was of the Baptist faith. His hobbies included coon hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.

I am thinking of all of you. Grandpa Fred was a good man with a kind soul. Imagine the things he experienced! A successful 71 year marriage is something to look up to as well. I will always remember him enjoying life, comfortable, in his overalls.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Taylor. I knew him from visiting a family member at Marigold. I stopped by his room a handful of times to say hi to him and Mrs. Taylor. He was a nice man. Prayers to the family and Mrs. Taylor.
