Mrs. Barbara A. Peters, Galesburg Chapel

peters-barbara.jpg83, of Galesburg, died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born February 13, 1929 in Galesburg, the daughter of Harold and Margaret Meldrum Larson. After the death of her father at a young age, Barbara was raised by her mother and step father, James Robinson. She married James W. Peters on December 22, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim; a son, Jamie (and Jan) Peters of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (and Andrew) Cecil of Solon, Iowa and John Peters of Galesburg; a great grandson, James Cecil; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and step father.
Barbara was a secretary, working for attorney Bob Eagan and then for L.D. Johnson Insurance Agency, which became Miller Dredge. She retired in 1991. Barbara was a 70 year member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the women’s group, the Sewing Circle, and Bible study. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Sparta, Ill. Barbara especially enjoyed trips to Sanibel Island, where she collected miniature seashells, and flower gardening. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandson. Barbara was known to all as a woman with a generous spirit and a willingness to help others.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sarah Parker and Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial later in Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.   1. Please accept my sincere sympathy on the death of your wife/mother/grandmother, Barbara. I remember her from years past when she and Jim would come to Evansville to visit. I always thought she was a kind gentle lady. May your memories bring you peace.

  3. My sympathy to you Jim, Jamie & family on the passing of your special lady, Barb. I always remember that she kindly helped me with ins. problems when she was at L.D. Johnson Ins. & I was at Fidelity Federal. In latter years, my husband (Doc) & I enjoyed our senior times with you both when w went out for drives, eating out & enjoying talks & laughing together! Barb was so sweet and always concerned about others. She was a specil friend & I will miss her. She & all of you are in my prayers. Gerrie Royse
