Ms. Ruby Lee Mott, Abingdon Chapel

mott-ruby.jpg74, of Abingdon, Ill. passed away at 10:55 am Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born July 29, 1938 in Pocahontas, Ark. the daughter of Lester and Ina Lee Knight Williams.
She is survived by two sons, Russell Ray of Abingdon, Ill and Randal (Mary) Ray of Little York, Ill.; her daughter Rhonda “Bunny” (Darrin) Dalton of Abingdon, Ill.; a sister, Carol (Sidney) Lewis of Abingdon, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Moore, Amanda, Adam, Morgan, Maranda, Madison, Matthew Ray, Lexi Dalton and four great grandchildren, Lydia, Spencer, Cooper and Kymora. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Paul Leslie and Rick Ray and a sister Virginia “Ginny” Hermie.
She worked for the former Galesburg Research Hospital and later worked as a registered nurse for Zeller Mental Health Care Center in Peoria. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1956 and Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program in 1986. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Historical Society. She was a member of the Abingdon Junior Women’s Club, Friends of John Mosser Public Library, and a volunteer for C.A.S.A. Ruby enjoyed gardening, flowers, and reading. She loved to attend the Book Fair at the Library. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Friday, August 24, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Historical Society or to the John Mosser Public Library. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. She was such a nicfe person! I know she wasn’t comfortable the last few years, but I admire her smiles and activities through it all. I didn’t see her often, but I will miss her.

  5. So sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. Makes me think back many years to our summer visits. How happy and cheerful she always was. We are thinking of and praying for all of her family and know she has gone to be with the ones she has missed so long.

    I’m so sorry about your moms passing. She was a one of a kind lady. I’ll never forget how hard she laughed that time at Sirloin Stockade. When my mom got the gum stuck on her shoe and it stretched all the way to the buffet. Your mom always found humor in just about anything. Alot like my mom. And, I’ll bet ya they are together now rejoicing and laughing it up. Love ya kiddo. And hang in there during this time of great sorrow. May peace & strength be with you.

    So sorry for Ruby’s passing.She was a warm & kind person to all who knew her. I was her supervisor @Zeller on Unit 5 which we started& opened @
    Zeller. She was a wonderful nurse that everyone could count on.
    She had to quit early due to her health problems.
    I use to see her in Galesburg occasionally.

  10. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Ruby, I can tell from her beautiful daughter that she must have been an amazing woman. My heart goes out to you Rhonda (and your family) as you go through this difficult challenge in your life. Know that you have so many folks that love you and care about you and are praying for strength for you right now. Your mom is now in a beautiful place with no more pain or struggles and hopefully you can find some peace in that.
