Mrs. Helen H. “Herbie” Wetherbee, Galesburg Chapel

wetherbee-helen.jpg87, of Galesburg, died at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1925 in Galesburg the daughter of Emmet Charles and Amy Agnes Clutz Holmquist. She married Charles Rollin Wetherbee on June 26, 1949 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2003.
She is survived by two sons, James Wetherbee of Galesburg and Thomas (Lisa Joyce) Wetherbee of Piedmont, Calif.; two daughters, Sara (Barry) Koeneke of Hallsville, Mo. and Jane (J.C.) Wise of Woodstock, Ill.; six grandchildren, Zachary Koeneke, Benjamin Wetherbee, Jackson Wetherbee, Charles Wetherbee, Cooper Wetherbee, and Grady Wetherbee; and her elder sister, Betty Mae Shepherd of San Rafael, Calif.
Herbie graduated from Galesburg High School and Knox College/Cottage Hospital School of Nursing with her B.S./R.N. She worked for two years as supervisor of obstetrics at Galesburg Cottage Hospital before starting her family. She was a founder of the Craft Shop at Cottage Hospital and was a former board member at Cottage Hospital. Herbie had been a member of Soangetaha Country Club, the Mosaic Club, P.E.O., and Pi Beta Phi at Knox College.
Private family graveside service will be Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Memorial Park Cemetery. At Herbie’s request, there will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Knox College Wetherbee Scholarship Fund or the Helen Wetherbee Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o the Galesburg Community Foundation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
The four children are hosting a casual gathering for friends of the family in remembrance of Herbie on the Vitale Patio at Soangetaha Country Club from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

    I was sorry to read of you mother’s passing. She was a delightful, intelegent, talented woman that I was lucky to have known.     We were so sorry to here of your Mother’s passing. She was my only Aunt and I have fond memories of her in her younger years when she and Uncle Chuck would come visit us in California. The most memorable was when she would impersonate Grandmommy’s dog saying MaMa. :-) She was a wonderful person and I am sorry I was unable to visit all of you more through out the years. I have kept up with you all through my Mom, her only sister. I know she is in heaven now, dancing with your dad and has no more pain.

    We really appreciate that you made the effort to contact us, which we picked up as a missed call. We then located Herbie’s obituary. We have missed Herbie since she left Florida and have thought of her so frequently, as we have enjoyed spending increasing time in Pompano. We have many happy memories of lunch with Herbie & Chuck!
    We send our sincerest sympathy to all of you on the death of your dear Mom. We’re thinking of you and will send a memorial.
