Mr. Doran H. Carr, Galesburg Chapel

78, of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died at 3:15 AM Thursday April 10, 2003 in Hospice of Palm Beach County Florida.
He was born July 29, 1924 in East Galesburg, IL to Henry and Goldie Chance. He married Audrey L. Foster on August 31, 1945 in Florence, South Carolina. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Steve (and Diane) Carr of Menomonee, WI, three daughters, Terry Hunter of Greenwood, IN, Linda (and Harold) Schlutow of Knoxville, IL and Debbie Guerrero of Boynton Beach, FL, two brothers, Russell (and Janet) Carr of Nena, WI and Stanley (and Becky) Carr of Oneida, IL, five sisters, Mid Bybee of Knoxville, IL, Joyce (and Charles) Johnson of Oneida, IL, Velma (and Les) Rothe of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, Janet (and Joe) Kelly and Christine (and Wayne) Gott, both of Idaho Falls, ID, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one son-in-law.
He worked for the Knox County Highway Department for many years, retiring in 1974.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was of the Methodist Faith.
He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a Turret-Gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber. He was shot down over Yugoslavia and was a German Prisoner for 11 months.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday April 17, 2003 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Mrs. Marilyn Anell officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday April 16, 2003 at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Memorials can be made to the Hospice of Palm Beach County FL, 5300 East Ave. West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
