Mr. Glenn Paulsgrove Obituary

Glenn Harold Paulsgrove, 98, Knoxville, passed away on April 12, 2024, at the Knox County Nursing Home.  He was born January 27, 1926, east of Abingdon, the son of James R. and Alta Hatch Paulsgrove.  He attended Hobbs, Windmill, and Victoria grade schools and Victoria, Oneida, and Gilson High Schools, graduating in 1943.  He was active with 4-H and F.F.A., raising Hampshire hogs and club calves.

Glenn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a Landing Ship Tank (LST) in the Pacific Theater, which participated in the Leyte invasion of the Philippines.

Glenn was honorably discharged from the service in May 1946 and enrolled at Knox College in the fall.  In 1947, he transferred to the University of Illinois, starting at the Galesburg branch, and then moving to the Champaign-Urbana Campus.  Glenn graduated in June 1950 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture.

Glenn began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, in the summer of 1949.  He served in several locations in Illinois, retiring in 1986 from the Area Conservationist position in Northern Illinois.

Glenn married Bettelou Flory of Monmouth in 1950.  They had three children; Steven, Teresa (Teri), and Robin.  Glenn later married Fern Lucille (Lucy) Camper of Galesburg in 1971.

Glenn was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #285, VFW #2257, and State Associations of LST Navy Veterans, SCS Retirees Association, and the Elks Lodge 894.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg.

Glenn was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  He enjoyed listening to the games on the radio, watching on television, and attending spring training games in Arizona.  Glenn and Lucy enjoyed traveling and took many trips and cruises after retirement.  They spent winters in Arizona enjoying bowling and playing shuffleboard.  Glenn taught new players how to shuffleboard and received an award for Outstanding Achievement for Leadership in 2008.

Mr. Paulsgrove leaves his children: Steven (Christy) Paulsgrove of Goliad, Texas; Teresa (Randell) Crump of Cleveland, Tennessee; and Robin (Ray) Paulsgrove of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren:  Casey (Cara) Horny, Jamison Horny, Zachary (Dayna) Paulsgrove, and Lindsay Weeks; and five great grandchildren:  Carsyn, Breslynn, and Evelyn Govednik; Jude Mendez, and Maeve Paulsgrove.  Glenn also leaves two stepchildren: Larry (Mary Jo) Camper and Kathleen Wolny; five step-grandchildren:  Jason (Allyson) Camper, Sarah Camper, Stephanie (Nick) Roske, Jessica (Joel) Snape, and Nicholas Wolny; and five step-great grandchildren:  Jacob and Alayna Camper, Evan and Gwendolyn Roske, and Jack Snape; and brother-in-law, Blair C. (Joyce) Stewart. 

Mr. Paulsgrove was preceded in death by his parents; wife; the mother of his children; brothers and their spouses:  James Wendell (Doris) and Max (Molly) Paulsgrove; sisters and their spouses: Helen (Charlie) Cross, Dorothy (John) St. George, and Garnet (Reece) Jones; and a brother-in-law, James (Helen) Stewart.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024, in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Honors by the Knox County Honor Guard.  Rev. Mary Runge will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial donations in Mr. Paulsgrove’s name may be made to the Illinois Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601; the Knox County Nursing Home, 800 N. Market St., Knoxville, IL 61448; or the First United Methodist Church, 120 N.
