Mr. Albert Benjamin Simpson, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:00 am Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at his home.
Albert was born July 18, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky to Earnest E. and Effie (Simpson) Simpson. He married Marilyn Stroud in New Albany, Indiana on February 7, 1964. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2007.
He is survived by daughters, Debbie Sue Simpson, Deena Ann Simpson, Annette Lorraine Friend, and Patricia Lea Babcock; two brothers, Earl Simpson of Wisconsin and Frank Simpson of Bushnell, Illinois; one sister Lily Rose Valley of Mississippi, five grandchildren, Matthew Alan (Staci Lefler) Friend, Ashley Michelle Friend, Evan Michael Simpson, and Amber Rose Babcock; and two great-grandchildren, Braylinn Patrick and Parker Friend. Albert is preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother Robert Simpson, and two sisters, Mae Small and Evelyn Jean.
He attended Macomb High School where he was an All-State Guard for the Varsity Basketball Team. Albert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years followed by serving in the U.S. Army for four more years.
He worked as a foreman for Presto Industries in Wisconsin and Maytag in Galesburg He was a member of the Bushnell VFW Post 1422 with his brother, Frank. He enjoyed bowling on his team for Admiral and the U.S. Army, fishing at Spring Lake, spending time with his family, and cheering on the LA Dodgers.
Visitation is scheduled for 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday June 30, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg. Graveside services will follow at 10 a.m. in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by VFW, American Legion and AmVets Honor Guard. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.
