Mr. Billy DeJaynes Obituary

Billy L. DeJaynes, 70 of Abingdon, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital surrounded by his family and his lifelong friend.

He was born November 6, 1947 in Galesburg, the son of Orville and Geraldine Curtis DeJaynes.  They preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James “Peckerhead” DeJaynes and Ron DeJaynes.

Bill married Jackie Barry on October 15, 1966 in Abingdon and she survives.  Also surviving is Bill’s sister, Virginia “Nina” (and Mike) Castle of St. Augustine;  his children, Bill (and Tracy) DeJaynes of Galesburg, Bobbi (and Dew) Kennett of LaMarque, Texas and Brian (and Angie) DeJaynes of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Tyson DeJaynes, Taylor (Damien) Nelson and McKenzy DeJaynes all of Abingdon; one great-grandson, Zane Lee and a soon to be great-granddaughter, Layla K.; his lifelong friend, Augie Kent of Galesburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

He was an Army veteran of the 101st Airborne Infantry and served his country in the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381.  He was a licensed plumber and he and his brother, James, owned and operated DeJaynes Plumbing & Heating for many years.  He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the NRA and the National Wild Turkey Federation. 

As Bill requested, cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate Bill’s life, family and friends will gather at the Abingdon American Legion Saturday, July 28, 2018 for Masonic Rites and Military Rites which will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a time of food and visiting.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
