Billy Lee Peacock, 70 of Abingdon, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the OSF St. Mary Medical Center Emergency Room in Galesburg.
He was born September 7, 1948 in Beardstown, Illinois, the son of Jerald Lee and Dora Mae (Bridgewater) Peacock. He married Carol Boyd and they later divorced. He then married Eva Cornwell at the Abingdon Christian Church in 1975.
Billy is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Eva; his children, Billie Jo (and Allen Martin) Peacock of Abingdon and Jamie Lee (and Patrick Ruetz) Peacock of Abingdon; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie (and Don) Geerdes of Fort Myers, Florida; and one brother, Tim (and Diana Thurman) Peacock of rural Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Shelly R. Peacock.
He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1967. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Kitty Hawk. He has lived all his life in Abingdon. He worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 30 years and later for the City of Abingdon for 5 years. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. His hobbies included fishing, mushroom hunting, turtle hunting, road tripping and watching his favorite TV show, Gunsmoke.
Cremation will be accorded. A time to celebrate his life will held beginning at 1 p.m. until ? Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Skeeters Place (The Pool Hall), 100 S. Main St. in Abingdon. Military Rites and private burial of his ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.
