Mr. Bobby "Bob" R. Pierce

Mr. Bobby “Bob” R. Pierce, 76 of Abingdon, passed away at 7:37 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at home.

He was born July 3, 1941 in Doniphan, Missouri, the son of James Delmar and Margaret Jane Burke Pierce.  He married Lari Jean Brashear in 1959 and they later divorced.  He married Dorothy L. Dunn Smith on November 8, 1968. 

Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Dorothy L. Pierce; one son, Patrick “Pat” Pierce of Abingdon two daughters, Bobbi (Rick) Helander of Knoxville and Kerry Johnson of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Tiffani Garcia, Marco Garcia and Josh Johnson; four great grandchildren, Gavin, Juliana, Layla and Tomas; one brother, Chuck (Sandy) Pierce of Galesburg; one sister, Donna Cecil of Elmwood; and nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Mary Catheryn Pierce.

He had lived in Abingdon most of his life and attended Abingdon schools.  He worked and retired from the Abingdon Pottery.  He was also self-employed as a carpenter.  He and Gene Brashear formally owned and operated the Pool Hall in Abingdon.  Bob’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, shooting pool, gardening and tending his fruit trees, cooking and making wine.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Cremation will be accorded.  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by his celebration of life service.  His ashes will be placed in his monument at the Abingdon Cemetery following the service.  Dick Ginther will officiate.  The family will also receive friends at the Abingdon American Legion in a time of food and fellowship following the service at the cemetery.
